Yesterday was a busy day at the Cottage. Jerry and I have been married for 52 years and throughout all that time we have made a pretty good team. Give or take a few times!!
So I decided that we should put our heads, and backs, together and get one more room in the Cottage spruced up for Spring. He did not disagree with me, and it worked out just fine.
This is our sitting aka family room. Calling it a sitting room seems more in character, more Victorian, don't you agree? Since we spend the majority of our time in this room it is not as fancy, or shall we say cluttered, as the other rooms in the Cottage. First of all there is a giant TV set there with no way to hide it, so why try to make it something it's not. Our sofas are comfortable, not prissy, like the one in the front parlour (which you will see some other time) and this is where Buddy is most comfortable, so you may (will) occasionally see a stray dog hair from time to time.
Enough of this idle chatter. Let's get on with it:
Jerry's comfortable chair
This sofa is really one part of a sectional but we mismeasured and put together it was too large for the space so we separated it as you will see below.
I apologize for the quality of the pictures today but we had some sunshine (which we aren't used to yet) so they are a bit washed out. Still cold enough for a fire though.
Here is that large TV I mentioned and that large dog. Two biggies for the price of one!
This was the bottom part of my great-grandmother's sewing basket. I don't know whatever happened to the top, but I sure wish I had it.
These are family pictures. The largest is my great-aunt with my dad, the middle is Jerry as a little boy and the one in front is my aunt, my father's sister.
This is my small collection of Crown Ducal in the pattern Bristol.
I've had this print for many years. I didn't buy it for the frame, the cottage, or the pleasant setting. I bought it for the water stain on it because it looked, to me, like smoke coming from the chimney of a warm and friendly little cottage. Doesn't take much to make me happy!
I just love these two little shots in their sweet frames. The top one is me and the bottom is my dad.
Now, you may remember, the word 'roses' was mentioned in the post title.
After we were through rearranging and cleaning Jerry disappeared for awhile and when he returned he brought a beautiful bouquet of pink roses with him . He said it was a spur of the moment idea, but in all truthfulness, he does things like this quite often. That is why he will be known from here on out as the Captain of the Team or, in short, "The Captain".
Aren't they exquisite? And they smell divine.
So we hope your day is filled with all good things and take a little time to smell the roses.
Happy Thursday...
Judy, Buddy and the Captain

Buddy looks quiet content in front of the tv.
I have the same size tv. in my Olive cottage.. and my 4 little doggies watch tv with me. When the dog whisperer is on they watch intently..
Happy Friday to you three.

Val: You always say the sweetest things. I am so happy to know you. Buddy does like to watch the Dog Whisperer also. From the TV into the front hall and into the parlour and back to the TV is an open circle, and whenever he hears a dog bark, he runs the circle to see where it is!! Captain says hi back. Thanks again, Val..Happy Friday, Judy

DeleteHello Judy,
ReplyDeleteYour home is beautiful. I have to say, my favorite part is your old, beautiful soul dog, sleeping there, peacefully and safe!
How nice you're married to someone that helps you spruce things up and brings you beautiful, pale pink roses as well.
So good to meet you, thank you for spending some time at my blog today.
~Tracie
Thank you Tracie: I'm glad you were able to stop by today. I appreciate your kind comments. Yes, Buddy is our heart. I was reading your past post about Zeke last night. I was so sad to hear of his passing. It will be a sad day when Buddy's time comes. Sometimes life is so sad, but when it's not, it is so good..Happy Friday..Judy

ReplyDeleteBonnie: I love having friends like you!! That's very nice of you to say but put on your glasses and look closely! OK, that's close enough! Thank you for your very sweet comments and hope you are having a good weekend..Judy

DeleteHi Judy
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit to my blog and your kind words. Your Victorian home is stunning and it's heartwarming to see you've achieved your dream. I'm still doing the modern home and trying to make it look Victorian. :-)
The captain is a thoughtful man - roses on the spur of the moment, lucky you! And yes, your dog is a big one, compared to my little one anyway.
Judith
Hi Judith: I'm so happy to meet you. Thank you for coming by. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful blog..Happy Monday..Judy
DeleteOh thank you for stopping by my blog.Because you did I have found yours. I love this room. looks very much like a English Library. Very cozy. My sister made my blue screen porch pillows. I found the fabric at a close out fabric shop that was really closing out. So I got a deal. They fade so when not in use I have to put covers over them. I am your newest follower. I hope to see and read more of your blog soon. Visit me often as well. Happy Easter, your new friend. Richard from My Old Historic House.
ReplyDeleteRichard: You have made my day. I am so happy to have you following me also. I am looking forward to hearing how the dinner comes out and thank you so much for your kind comments..Happy Monday..Judy

Blessings,
Sandi
Hi Sandi: Thank you for your sweet comments. I am so happy that you are following me and am looking forward to seeing more of your posts..Happy Monday..Judy P.S. No, my name is not Garland, that is the name of the original owners of the Cottage. When we first got to know some of the people around town when we moved here 20 some odd years ago, they referred to us living in the Garland House, so we researched it and found out a little about the family, but "The Garland House" remained the Cottage's name..Gold Country because this is where we live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
DeletePS~ I noticed too that you have The Garland House in your header. I'm wondering if that is your last name. My mother's maiden name was Garland. {I have an Aunt Judy too and her last name is Garland!} *smiles*
