Did I mention that I am addicted to YouTube.
I watch it every night in bed.
It is a relaxing end to my day.
I am enthralled by all the Christmas decor channels.
There is one, in particular, that caught my eye and got my decorating juices flowing
to a time, long ago, that filled my days.
I am a product of
the country decorating era of the 70's and 80's.
I crafted and did ceramics, and our home was filled with all the goodness of mauve and blue
and lots of rustic touches.
When we came to the Cottage, I thought I would move on (or back, if you will) to the Victorian style.
I soon found that I didn't like the heaviness and limited my decorating style to
country Victorian in the parlor only
and sold most of my treasures.
The channel that so interested me is
Bridgett's Primitive Passion.
Bridgett Swindle is a real southern girl with a wonderful southern accent.
She goes shopping with her Mama, who says
"bless her heart" about a charming, handmade doll.
I sure could be BFF's with these two.
Bridgett has a beautiful home,
decorated in the primitive colonial style
and she showcases the homes of others
that love the same style on her channel.
Now, I know, that I am not
a true, hard-core prim lover.
I admire all the ones who choose it
for themselves and their families,
but I prefer the softer side of the decor
paired with country and colonial.
After the first episode I watched,
I knew I was going to have
a Prim Christmas dining room this year.
After getting rid of most of my good things,
don't ask me how
I managed to find enough to carry out my plan
in all the nooks and crannies, but I did.
The only new things I bought were
a wreath and a couple of small trees
and two stencils to complete a couple of signs.
It may look much the same to you
because there is a lot of the same
but to me it is very different.
I can see a lot of thrifting in my future from now on.
One of the little trees from the Dollar Tree.
I removed the tin stand it was on
and put it in a small crock.
We have had the standing lamp forever.
We tried to sell it at a garage sale once upon a time, but nobody wanted it. Thank you very much.
I stole the shade from the kitchen lamp
and will find a new one after the holidays.
Let me quit talking now
and show you what it is all about...
The old crow has the place of honor
on the tree top this year.
I stenciled the sign on both sides.
The other side says Old Thyme Christmas
so passersby can see it from outside
(no, this was not planned,
as usual I was cheaply trying for
two for the price of one)
and after Christmas Olde Crow Homestead
will hang on the wall.
I decorated the tree with orange slices
and a few prim items this year.
I didn't use the flags but...
...you can see
I didn't forget them.
Some day I hope to have
more quilts to pile up.
Another little tree
from the Dollar Tree.
Remember the little lantern that we used
in my great-grandmother's stove in the parlor?
Here it is warming up the dining room.
We moved the anniversary sign
that was hanging here to the sitting room
and replaced it with the two folk art prints
that we thrifted awhile back for $5 each.
That is what started me on my newest adventure.
Another wreath and ribbon from Temu.
These are bells that I bought a couple of years ago and they were bright red.
I went over them with some dark glaze
and toned them down quite a bit
.
Hope you enjoyed my
Perfectly Prim Christmas dining room.
I can't wait to see how it will evolve
after Christmas is all put away.
Have a wonderful holiday, everyone,
and a happy and healthy new year.
Thank you for all your support throughout the year.
I appreciate all your friendships.
Thank you, Linda, for including my kitchen post in your wonderful party, Love Your Creativity.
It is always an honor.
See you next year.
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Love your prim holiday this year. I have been sneaking back in some prim to my decor. I love it in my kitchen. My whole house years ago was all primitive and I loved it. Then I strayed to cottage whites and neutrals which I now love so much but I feel a little prim here and there is fun for me. I love it all. Merry Christmas sweet friend. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kris. I wish I could have my whole house this way but too late in the game for any big pieces. Just a little touch here and there is fun. Merry Christmas..xxoJudy
DeleteLove this style. I will have to check out this youtube channel. You did a great job in the dining room. Looks great! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. I think you will enjoy the channel if you like the style. There are so many good channels that I enjoy..Happy Christmas to you and yours..xxoJudy

ReplyDeleteThanks so much. I did just catch one episode so far. I did like it. Merry Christmas..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely post, Judy. I like your prims and I can see why you were so enchanted by them. And that removing the stand and putting that little tree in a crock was inspired!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jeanie. ..It just goes to show you can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear! Merry Christmas, my friend..xxoJudy
DeleteLove the new look, Judy! You put it all together beautifully! I scrolled down to see the rest of your pretty decor and it is like a Christmas wonderland. I love the little needlework sign and the heart string made from coverlets. I grew up in New England and that style brings back sweet memories. Sending hugs and wishes for a wonderful New Year. x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Karen. Hope you are well. I used to have much more but can't look back with regret. New days ahead. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your family..Happy New Year..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Judy! I love that you are always looking to take your decor in new and exciting directions. You always inspire me! I think my favorites are the tree in the crock and the faux sampler. That's a genius idea! I have to check out her channel! Happy New Year my friend! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kim. Isn't that great for the samplers? I haven't ordered any more YET, but she has different sizes, all for great prices and I think you would like her channel, especially what she does in her own home..Happy New Year..xxoJudy
DeleteJudy you really went ALL OUT in your decorating in the "prim" style! I love it all! In the 80's, I was all about "country" and farm country, the blues and mauves were my "thing" in everything I made and did! I had an old wicker chair that was my aunt's and the old cushion was all blue with mauve flowers so that is what inspired me for so many other things in that color scheme. It took me many years to move from that to my pinks and greens that I love now... and really.. I've kind of gotten away from that with my move now, and going more for teals and aqua with gray, and pops of color. Boy we do change. I wanted it more simpe here in my new home, since it's smaller and all the walls are a deep chocolate tan color, which amazingly I do like! Not really that dark, more like light colored chocolate milk! My bedroom even has some orange in it now, with touches of gold... I still have my vintage things, like old teacups and the chippy white picture frames. You have so many darling things! I love the old quilt hearts garland, and the lanterns, all the Santas, and the neat old signs. Now I suppose you have tro take it all down soon. I would leave it up for awhile! Hugs.. Marilyn
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Marilyn. It really is funny how things change but I guess life would be too boring without changes. I know I should get rid of a lot that I have but, knowing me, I will change back and want it again so I tend to put it off. Your rooms sound very warm and inviting, I like all those colors also. I am so liking what I have done that I am thinking about bringing the prim into some of the other rooms. Right now I am dragging my feet about putting the Christmas away. Will leave most of the greenery out for winter..Happy New Year, my friend..xxoJudy
