KITCHEN UPDATE #3 (I THINK!)

Hi Everyone:

This will be a very short one, well, for me anyway! Once we leave tomorrow morning to pick up SIL's truck, I won't have much time until next week to talk to you so am sneaking one in.

They came today to install our countertops. I am so happy with them. I think they are beautiful and look as close to marble as I could get. See what you think?

Oh, I'm so sorry. Looks like I cut the shot short. Here, let me try again.

Is that better?  No?  Well, that's all I took so guess you'll have to wait for--the big reveal.

I did get some straightening up done, though, while we are waiting for the doors to get done.

I have always wanted a plate rack so we are leaving the doors off over the stove and I ordered this little beauty from  LaurieAnna's Vintage Home.  She has the sweetest things in her shop and I just love it. Can't see it very well, you say? My answer to that is you'll have to wait for--the big reveal.

Here is my vignette on top of my 'blingy' frig.  We had a TV on top for so many years that I haven't had to display anything up there. So don't be surprised if it changes before--the big reveal.

We did get the ceiling painted and it looks so bright and clean now. I really would like to get rid of that old fan, but in this old Cottage there isn't a whole lot of insulation and it gets very warm in the summer, so the fan stays. I, myself, would sweat it out for beauty's sake but Mr. Captain Practical says otherwise.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also, I wanted to share with you how the garden has exploded in the last few days.
One of the David Austin roses.
Another David Austin rose.
Roses by any other name.
The Cecil Bruner rose bush
See those nasty little white things on the rosebud? You know what those are, probably only too well.  Well, every year they are all over the roses, but then in a twinkling,   these little sweethearts show up and the aphids are history.
I don't know who they are or what they are, I'm just so happy to see them..I call them My Little Magic Bugs..And everyone I talk to don't know what they are and most of them have never even seen them, but yet their roses are covered in aphids.  There must be something magical about GoldCountryCottage.  If anyone out there knows anything about these precious things, I'd be happy to hear.
Well, this post went from short to long so I'll say good night and settle in to watch "Dancing With The Stars".
Hope you all are enjoying the week...Judy
  3. Hi Judy,
    what progress. cant wait for the big reveal.
    I think you have chosen the counter tops wisely.. marble marks very badly..
    I am really pleased now Judy. You have clarified a name for me. David Austin Rose. I have at least 2 of them, and i have never known the name. They are a stunning double headed rose.. Your roses are thriving and look very healthy.
    I do not know the name of the bug. but it sure is doing its work. ladybugs usualy help.. but one has to wait for them to arrive and here that could be for ever.
    Wishing you a good week Judy, take care on your trip.
    lovely post.
    1. Hi Val: Thank you, I hope it won't take too long now. I'm glad I could help with the roses but I only know that they are David Auntin's, sadly I don't know the special names for them. I am so bad about keeping those kinds of things in my mind. Thea wrote that she thought the bugs were parasitic wasps. I don't like that name for such sweet little things, I'll just stick to Magic Bugs..Hope the rest of the week is good for you..Judy
  5. What a fun post- I can't wait to see the big reveal...you are SUCH a tease. Your flowers are gorgeous but I have no idea what those bugs are that eat aphids. God bless them though.
    Now...Dancing With The Stars...if you DO vote- think about voting for Donald Driver. He is a friend of my sons and just the nicest man you will ever meet. VERY humble and down to earth. God bless- Hope you have a good day- xo Diana
  8. Hi Judy, looking forward to seeing your wonderful new kitchen! You could paint the blades of your ceiling fan if you wanted a new look. I have also seen decals put on them that look cute! Have a wonderful day, Jean
    1. Hi Jean: Thanks for your kind comments. That's a great idea. If I painted the blades white it wouldn't stand out as much. I mentioned it to the Captain and he didn't object so maybe it will happen.Hope you are having a good week..Judy
    You have gorgeous roses, David Austin roses - I do not have, but will certainly plan on getting one. I've seen little flying things like that here on my roses before, I will have to find out what they are. Great post and fun to read.
  11. Hello Judy
    Glad the kitchen is coming together, I expect it will look stunning when its all finished, your roses are beautiful, ours are not out yet, it is so cold here today, but at least it was dry, Have fun! (by the way I think your bug is a parasitic wasp)
    1. Hi Thea: Thank you for your sweet comments. I'm glad you were dry for a change. Oh, Thea, I really hope that is not their names because they are entirely too wonderful to be called parasitic!! Thank you for your expertise, but I think I'll just stick to calling them My Magic Bugs, even though I'm sure you are right. You certainly do know your garden stuff..Hope your rest of the week is wonderful and dry..Judy
    It's on my list of things to get done on our cottage also.
    I think I spied a similar bug out on one of our apple trees. I wasn't certain if they were benificial bugs or not.
    Warm regards..
  25. Looks like your kitchen is coming along great. I had to smile about your comment on what we are willing to put up with (heat) for a great look (instead of the fan). I guess we're all alike, and it's good to know we're not alone. :-) Sometimes we have to give in for hubby, though.
    Your flowers are gorgeous!
