And The Livin' Is Easy...
This really has been an easy summer.
The weather, so far, has been very agreeable
and time is slowly moving along.
We've moved some furniture around
to make space for a larger area rug that is coming to the sitting room.
My thought was to move the game table and chairs into the parlor.
The Captain did not agree at all and I had a few doubts myself,
but we both think that we do like it.
If it becomes a problem for the Christmas tree set up, then we will rethink it.
We moved the two blue armchairs back into the sitting room
until we can replace them with a couple of easy chairs.
This room, for me, has always been
a hard nut to crack as far as decorating.
I am trying to push it a little more
towards country prim.
More to come about this later.
It's funny how quickly
some easy living can turn into torture.
Have you ever noticed that?
I will make a long story short.
I noticed some water on the library floor
which after a quick clean up
turned into more water on the library floor
and on the guest bedroom floor as well.
It turned out our second bathroom
which is situated between the two rooms
sprung a leak in the pipe connected to the toilet
and that water had to go somewhere.
We called a plumber
and he found other leaks under the Cottage.
It seems that our water pressure was too high
and had blown through the pipes
over a period of time.
That is just how our city water pressure is
and I wish someone had told us
that the installation of a pressure valve
would have solved the problem.
But no one did and now we know.
After a good amount of money
and some raised hardwood floors
we are now all good.
Hope all is well with you
and will see you next time.

I love how you ended this post with the clocks and so time flies by. Sorry about your pipes, our water heater decided to leak and so had basement water ---again. Not serious just more work than old people can handle...and of course 2K...for a water heater...I remember when they were 2 hundred and that was horrible then also. Hugs, and we finally have decent weather...trying to catch up on the garden work, just couldn't do anything outside for longer than 30 min with our humidity!. Hugs, Sandi
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sandi. Yeah, it is a bummer. We had to shell out 3K+ but it is only money, right? At least our floors seem to be settling down after drying. They are original to the house so would have hated to tear them up. Sorry about your problems, again. When it rains it pours. The alternator on our car went out the next day so we just added that to the list.. We are heating up a little now so expect it will get hotter before it is over..xxoJudy
DeleteSorry Judy about the water issues. Glad you could get it fixed. I love your decor always. Years ago I had all primitive in my house. I loved it. When I see your sweet cottage it reminds me of how I loved the primitive decor. Have a wonderful new week. I am glad to see you post and find out you are doing well. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kris. I love the prim too and had many pieces in the past that I wish I still had. I think I am more country prim though than real primitive. After all these years you would think that I would know what I want but I seem to like different styles, guess that is why I am on the verge of hoarding (if you ask my hubby)..Happy rest of summer..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteUgh on the water issue. Plumbers can be expensive too. It was a very hot and humid Summer here in Michigan. Am glad we are finally having some Fall like weather being able to keep the windows open all day. Looks like you have a nice plan worked out for your redo. Look forward to seeing it complete. Janice
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Janice. We are sure getting what feels like fall, this am even had a little rain. We are working on the plan with a bit more to do yet..Happy rest of summer..xxoJudy
DeleteHi Judy...so nice to "see" you again! I'm so sorry about the water issue. Darn it anyway. As they say "prevention is the mother of invention" or somesuch or whatever..... bottom line is: prevention is the key, and when no one tells us how to "prevent" things from happening, then it happens! I worry about my hot water heater, which is situated in my bedroom closet! What if it leaks? all sorts of questions, etc. I should have a plumber come but as you say , they are spendy! but I suppose one service call would be cheaper than a big overflow or it bursting or something! Another thing to add to my to do list. I've behind on blogging.. summer has been so busy and working part time, and trying to take care of my gravel "yard" and garden, etc. and some fixes that need fixing around my place.. plus my phone died so that is just another issue to deal with! (and outlay or money). Glad you are enjoying your cottage and garden and flowers. Back in the 80's, I was totally country prim and loving it, and hoarded all the magazines with that style of decorating! I'm turned more to just plain country, or white farmhouse country (though my furniture is still all dark wood! my plans to paint it just seem to get waylaid). Glad all is well there and has been a good summer! Hugs... Marilyn
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Marilyn. Beginning to really feel like fall here. Had a little rain this morning. It felt so good. Doing a little redecorating and hope to have something to show for it soon. Hope you are enjoying what is left of the summer. Take care, xxoJudy
