LIFE GOES ON...

It's me again!

Looking back I see that I haven't posted since late in May.

I knew it had been awhile but, truthfully, I thought it had been longer than that.

Every week I think I am going to drop by and visit

but then there always seems to be something come along the pike that puts it all on hold.

I know that some of you took your busy time to drop a comment

and I didn't get back to you.

My sincere apologies.

That was always something that I said I would never do.

Things have come and gone.

Things that are considered normal and things that you wouldn't wish upon your worst enemy. ..

The garden has bloomed its heart out

and now is starting to rest,

moving towards the end of the season.

After 30+ years the Cottage deserved a new roof.

It was something that needed to get done before another winter set in.

Here she is at the beginning of summer surrounded by her flower garden.

She was looking pretty good down to her toes,

but her head was only one breath of wind away from a giant gaping hole...

...now with the flowers almost gone,

she is in much better shape to meet Old Man Winter.

She is now safe and prepared for whatever Mother Nature can throw at her

but our pocket book is the real sufferer.

We had a new roof put on when we first bought the Cottage

and it blows the mind as to how much prices have increased.

Our choice then was a very black shingle

but over the course of the years it has toned down

to almost the same color gray that we have now chosen.

The only difference is all the missing and tattered shingles.

Jake and Jacenda got married.

We are hoping to get some pictures soon and I will share then.

It was a beautiful wedding that took place

under a canopy of trees, inside a walled garden, accompanied by a string quartet.

The day was absolutely beautiful, although bittersweet,

as the Captain was not able to be there...

...a few weeks before the wedding, we had gone to the nursery.

It was just after Mother's Day and we were so happy to find

this beautiful morning glory plant for the arbor.

We hadn't been able to find one in years past and we were excited.

A worker put the pot into the car but the Captain had to remove it when we got home.

He felt a slight pain as he removed the can from the car.

The pain got progressively worse as the day and night went on until his whole right side,

from his waist down to his foot was affected.

To make a long story short,

he couldn't move, lay down or sit, without immense pain

so a long car ride and a full day out was not something he could handle.

 In his own words,

"I had to wait 85 years for something like this to happen

and it had to be at a special time in my only grandson's life."

We were all devastated.

He is feeling much better now but had a MRI

and it was the sciatic nerve that got messed up

and he has severe stenosis between the fourth and fifth vertebra.

He has to completely rest and will be going to rehabilitation.

There he will be treated as to the severity of his problem.

Surgery is always a possibility but we are hoping that doesn't have to happen.

We hired a gardener to plant the morning glory and mow the lawn, etc.

The Captain says

We will have to keep him for another week, at least

 I say,

Sorry Bud, he is here to stay!

Well, I guess that is enough sad stories for awhile.

I hope I don't wait so long to spend time with you again

but I don't think it will be as often as I would like.

Things are very quiet around here

and since the Captain needs to sit and rest,

what can I do but sit and rest with him!?

Nothing much else is happening even in the mode of decorating,

so when something new occurs, I will let you know.
( I don't think you would be too interested in all the TV shows we will get to watch.)

Stay well and happy and we are determined to do the same.

...xxoJudy...

    1. Thanks so much, Janice. Yeah, it was quite costly. I sure could have made a lot of thrift store visits for the price of one shingle!! Hope all is well with you. We are improving bit by bit..Happy Summer..xxoJudy

  2. Hi Judy, so glad to hear from you. I wanted to share a sciatic nerve major help for me. Please do your own internet research but the B vitamins especially B6 really help with nerve function along the spine. I had sciatic nerve pain that was so bad I could barely walk, but started taking B6 and within a few weeks had significant improvement. Doctors won't tell you this, but it helps with inflammation and I haven't been without it since last fall. I have a lot of nerve pain and this is a huge help. Your new roof looks fabulous as does your garden. Take care and take it easy. Happy late summer!

    1. Thanks so much, Debra. Sorry to hear about your nerve pain and I will check out the B6. I have nerve pain in my foot because of the toe amputations so it might be something good for me too. Both Jerry and I have never taken any kind of vitamins so maybe it is time to start. Thanks for your kind words. We are happy with the new roof and am kind of excited for the rainy weather again as we got new gutters also so will be nice to not have to deal with those anymore..Happy Summer..xxoJudy

    2. Debra, I hope you will read this. I tried to leave a comment on your post but something called "captua" won't let me. There are a couple of other bloggers that this happens with but I don't know how to fix it. You are making me think about fall and that is getting exciting..xxoJudy

    3. Hi Judy, gosh sorry, I'm not sure what's going on with the comment section and leaving one. I checked my settings and I can't find out what was going on. Thanks for getting back with me. Honestly the B vitamins make a huge difference in nerve health. Hope they help you guys. hugs, Deb

  3. Oh Judy - life gets so crazy sometimes! I just love your cottage with its new roof, but oh my, yes, the cost of things have drastically gone up, everything! I'm so sorry about your husband's back pain! I can't imagine how awful it was for him not to be able to attend the wedding. Prayers for you both, as I know it is taxing on both the one in pain, and the caregiver. Your cottage flowers are gorgeous! Yes, it is beginning to get fallish around here too, and the blooms have come and gone, a steady parade for sure! So good to read your post, you and Captain will be in my prayers!

    1. Thanks so much, Marilyn. I appreciate all your kind words. He is feeling much better. Doc wants him to use a walker to keep his back straight so that it will heal properly, he is not very happy about that! We sit on the porch every evening and look at the garden dwindling away. I am looking forward to fall with cooler weather and I love all the colors. Stay cool and enjoy what is left of summer..xxoJudy

  5. HI Judy! So good to hear from you! I was wondering how things were going on there. I love your newly dressed up cottage! Wow... it looks gorgeous with her new hat and all the blooms around it. YOU have been busy this summer, what with the roofing, gardening, wedding, and then your hubby's back problems. Ouch. The advice from Debra is right on! B6 is so so great for nerve pain. I used it for years for my hands and carpal tunnel and it really helped. When I had sciatica years ago, I would lay on the floor with my legs up resting on the couch, for a good 45 min. each night.. it stretched out that area and helped so much! My chiropractor recommended it, and to this day, if I start having that kind of pain, I do it again. I also lay on the floor and do the one knee to chest and hold, then other knee to chest, and hold, then BOTH knees to chest and hold. It's harder as I get older! but I still do it as keeps me more mobile and out of pain. Of course, you just about can't do it when you ARE having that extreme pain! Oh back problems are not fun and the only secret I've found is to find an excellent chiropractor to get you through those hard times. Mine is 5 hours away and I still go to him a few times a year. I haven't been now for a little over a year, as his office has closed due to a car running into the office and ruining his (expensive) equipment. I hope he opens soon. I'll be there waiting in line! Take care of you and hubby and again, was so good to hear from you! Hugs... Marilyn

    1. Thanks so much, Marilyn. It has been awhile. I am just not able to think of anything new to write about so I wait until I have something. Hope that doesn't take as long next time. It all sounds like good advice. PT did tell him to lay on floor for an exercise but then he couldn't get up and it took awhile for the both of us to get him up off the floor. He did go to a chiropractor who did nothing for him and his doc told him not to go back. I guess he found a lemon! Hope everything is well with you and I'll try to get back in the game before too long..xxoJudy

  6. I always love to see your beautiful cottage home. Prayers for you and the Captain. My biggest complaint of getting older is losing my strength. I remember my 30 's and 40's , I was very strong. Now I make myself do things that take some serious grunting at times. Your gardens are so pretty. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Thanks so much, Susie. It was so nice to hear from you. Yes, old age does have its drawbacks. I often think about how I could used to get up off the couch and get right to work. Not any more but that could be because I spend a lot of time on that couch!! Hope you are doing well, my friend..xxoJudy

  10. Yikes, it has been a long time. My posts have far and few because I wrecked my shoulder in May...and gardening simply did not get done. Hope you both recover, and I know how much a new roof costs---yikes. Hugs, Sandi

  12. I am so sorry to hear about your husband and the terrible pain he had to endure. I had a shot in hip area for pain. My doctor said it was sciatica pain. No amount of pain though that your husband had, but it was hurting to walk in my hip. flares up now and then. I am praying he is better all the time and no surgery needed.
New roof, always something and they don't come cheap that's for sure. I am kind of tired of working on this place but my husband doesn't want to move anymore until it is really necessary. Take care.

  14. Judy, such sad news about the captain. I hope he can recover from this. Sciatic nerve pain is awful. The gardens have looked lovely. I love morning glory’s. Such a beautiful vine and flower. Your grandson’s wedding sounds wonderful, it’s a shame your hubby couldn’t attend. It seems like we always have maintenance around the house. The new roof will be a great comfort. Xo

  16. Please Read. You have a great post here, Have anyone here know Goji Berries... yes... I tried those too.For my health conditions, Those sweet, red berries seemed to help, but only during the time when I consumed them. I don't want to take a drug for the rest of my life, so why would I want to take a natural supplement everyday for the rest of my life (although Goji berries are very tasty and are highly nourishing). To me this was not a cure either (and I'm LOOKING for the CURE).
Up to that point, I hadn't found a cure. I felt like a young jumbled mess. I continued to have extreme pain, but continued on my path to healing. I started to focus on myself and not everyone else. When I was a young adult, I took on too much responsibility out of a sense of obligation. This was no longer healthy for me, so I resigned from all my projects and groups. Those days to come were the best [and worst] days. I took a lot of time off work, yet begun to feel so extremely exhausted. Many health professionals "diagnosed" me with adrenal fatigue & Hiv,Prostate Cancer so my situation was annoying then I keep searching for permanent cure online that's when I came to know of Dr jekawo herbal doctor hands whom god has blessed with ancestral powers and a gift to heal people with disease like .Cancers,Alzheimer's disease,HPV,Men & Women Infertility,Melanoma, Mesothelioma, Diabetes, Multiple myeloma, Parkinson's disease,Neuroendocrine tumors,Herpes, Hiv/Aids,Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma,, chronic diarrhea, COPD, Hepatitis... So I made a purchase of his herbal medicines and I have been watching my health for 6 years now and I actually confirmed that his herbal medicines are a permanent cure and I'm so happy that I came to know of his herbal healings. You can contact Dr Jekawo herbal doctor Email: drjekawo@gmail.com if you went through exactly what I go through in terms of health conditions because to be honest there is more to learn about natural herbs than medical drugs.

  17. "That should be enough depressing tales for now. Though I doubt it will happen as frequently as I would want, I hope I don't have to wait as long to see you again. The Captain needs to sit and rest, so what better time for me to sit and relax with him while everything is so quiet about here? Even in the decorating stage, not much is going on, but I'll keep you updated when something new happens. (I don't think any of the TV series we get to watch will pique your attention.) We want you to be healthy and content, and we intend to follow suit. In the midst of this calm, consider exploring new possibilities, like the option to pay someone to take my online class for me ensuring a smoother journey toward personal and educational well-being."
