SOMETHING TO CROW ABOUT

Randolph Caldecott, "Sing a Song for Sixpence", 1880

Sing a song for sixpence
A pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds,
Baked in a pie...

Postage Stamp quilt
Pieced together by my great-grandmother, Sarah,
Late 1800's

When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing
Wasn't that a dainty dish
To set before the King?

The King was in his counting house
Counting out his money;
The Queen was in the parlour
Eating bread and honey...

The maid was in the garden,
Hanging out the clothes;
When down came a blackbird
And pecked off her nose...

There was such a commotion
That little Jenny Wren
Flew down into the garden
And put it back again.

Now I have something to crow about....

Remember this lamp in the kitchen?

Yesterday, between playing in PicMonkey, making a pattern for this lampshade, pulling hot glue from my fingers, and picking coffee sack burlap out of every nook and cranny in the Cottage...I didn't get out of my PJ's all day. I think I'm happy with it but it was a lot of work and I can't afford to have too many days like this. I used to do a lot of crafts but now I think I would rather spend my money on something that someone else has crafted and my time on playing with my camera and my toys.

I think, from now on, I will just live vicariously through your crafting, because you all do it so well....Judy

GOT PINK?

Update on Buddy:  He had his vet appointment and she was very happy with him this time. His lungs are sounding good and he seems to be on the road to recovery. He still has to finish the antibiotics and his exercise is still limited but it sounds all good. Thank you everyone for sending such good thoughts his way.

I sharing this week with:

  1. Hi Judy, Very cute post. I work in a Library and so I know of Caldecott Award books, I wonder if that is who the award was named after. I like your pie bird and am so glad Buddy is doing better. Gina

  4. I'm so glad Buddy is doing well. When you didn't post, I feared the worst. I'm happy to hear he's on the road to recovery. Your hard work paid off because I really like your updated lampshade. The crows are fun for fall. I know they aren't used very often because most people use pumpkins and scarecrows, but I've always liked the crows too.

  6. Well done with the lampshade. I think the postage stamp quilt is amazing and such another good way of re-cycling which I would think back then was real necessity more than now. It must have taken her ages to put that together but what a treasure you have there. X

  9. Love Mother Gooses' "And when the pie was opened the birds began to sing, Wasn't that a dainty dish to set before the king." My little girl could sing the entire thing at 2 and she's sing, "Snapped off her nose" and grab my nose.

    Love the fall items and glad Buddy is better. My granddog has been sick and we've been scared to death. They have been unable to conceive and Iwould hate to think what it may do to my daughter if something happened to Charlie.

    Thanks for your advice on blogging. I don't get linking but I will try.
