MAY I HAVE THIS DANCE...

But the fire is so delightful...

So goes the popular song by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne written in 1945.

When January comes around I look forward to the cold days of winter.  During summer the days are so hot and you would give anything for a little cooling down...

...then before you know it, Christmas is upon us and makes it almost impossible to think of anything but the hustle and bustle of the season.

When all the excitement and activities come to an end, then is the time to think of nesting and being warm around the fire.

This is when I start fantasizing about the first snowfall.

I picture how it will look when the soft powder settles on the top of our fence.  It reminds me so much of a beautiful, intricate piece of lace.

I love seeing the trees in the distance, through the sitting room window, with a cap of newly fallen snow.

I especially love to see an old dog who finds it hard to get around sometimes turn into a young pup again when there is a pile of white on the ground.

So, like the Native Americans before us, who have perfected the art of the rain dance, I do a little dance of my own, with the help of a few cold weather friends, in hopes that it will bring the snow of the season.

"January brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow."

Sara Coleridge

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I sit preparing this post it is a very cool 60 degrees outside and the sun is shining in a blue sky with no hint of snow on the horizon...
...a little to the left of the clouds there is just a slight covering of mist in the distance.
As part of my snow dance, I will leave you with a scene from a couple of years ago...
I figure I can use all the help I can get, and until the real thing comes along, our little family will be nestled in the warmth of the  Cottage waiting for the first time, this January, when our world will once again be covered in pristine beauty.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow....
Judy
  2. It has rained so long and so hard here that I am glad we live on a rock! I hope you get your snow, and to be honest, I'd like a little too.
    Your winter decor is sweet!
  4. A delightful winter post Judy,
    Snow only falls high up in the northern mountains of Portugal.
    Here where i live ..we never get snow.
    Your decorations are so lovley.
    We had a cold spell a week back, so the wood burner was on day and night.
    This last week, its been sunny and very nice.
    happy week
  5. I loved seeing the picture of Buddy in the snow. He reminds me of this little poodle named Cuddles I had when I was growing up. He too loved the snow and would run outside every time we let him, then he would toss the snow in the air with his nose.
    We don't get much snow where I live. Generally, it snows maybe once or twice a year (if at all) in late winter. When Mr. Weatherman predicts snow, you know the grocery store lines will be a mile long because everyone is there ot get their toilet paper and milk because they think the world is coming to an end.
    It's been cold and gray here lately, but no sign of snow. If the sky is going to be gray like this, I much prefer snow too. Hopefully you and I will get it soon!
  6. Hello Judy. Lovely photos. It looks as if you are nice and cosy though snuggled in your lovely home. I love that you have 'proper' seasons. Here we dont have such extremes. I would love hot summers and cold snowy winters but we seem to get more rain than anything else!
  7. Hello Judy!! I have been away from the land of blog whilst moving house and getting the internet set back up, etc, and I have missed you! I hope you had a lovely Christmas :) - OH what a lovely post, one of my favourite christmas songs too..I do wish we would have some snow here as well, nothing yet only extremely cold this morning and it's too misty to even see from my office window. What i love the most is waking up after a heavy snowfall in the night to absolute silence - everything covered in white, it's very magical! :) lets hope we both have some soon - keep up with that snow dance! xx
  14. What a lovely post. Here we don't have to beg to be somewhere else in the summer. Last one was mostly rain and cold days, lol. And our winters are the same nowadays. Rainy, grey days and the snow that falls disappears quick. Not at all something to look forward too!! But your winter pictures are so beautiful. I too love the picture of your fence with the lace!
    Hope you have a great day my friend.
    Love Elzie
  15. Beautiful post, Judy.
    I would happily send you some of our snow!
    How I wish it were 60 degrees outside; gee, I'd even love it if it were 20 degrees.
    It's in the forecast that by tonight, we will be getting another heavy snow storm.
    I'll think of you, and smile.... knowing how much you would love this snow :)
    Warm winter wishes, my friend.
  18. Well, Judy, you would love it here, because we have pristine white snow everywhere you look. Now that Christmas is over, I'm dreaming of springtime when the earth wakes up again and the trees bud and the flowers bloom; not a winter person in the least! And I agree with Debbie, pretty lace curtains! It's always lovely to visit you and thanks for sharing your wonderful post with all of us over at my HOME. Hope your weekend is going well.
    Blessings,
    Sandi
  20. Your cottage looks so inviting and warm... We have snow here in New England, although it may all go away this weekend. It's supposed to be in the low 50's. Very foggy outside right now. Your decor is so pretty. I love how you have the little vignettes set up! I have some but mine need more primping. Going to do that! Thanks for the inspiration! Have a great weekend!
  21. Hi Judy,
    Happy New Year to you and your family! You have come by twice and I thank you for your visit. I am having so much trouble with my blog and I have blogger folks working on it. I have to use the old HTML way to post photo's and I cant see my pics till after I post. It is so frustrating! This is my second time here as my pc went into a freeze mode. I hope this makes it. If not I'm coming over to your warm and cozy living room and going to forget the world exist! I love what you see out your windows.Winter with the right setting can be so peaceful! I love your home! Stay warm and I'm sure the snow is on the way!
  25. How beautiful a post Judy. I am with you, I love this time of the year after the holidays. I think it is a beautiful time to reflect, be home, and for staying warm and cozy. We had some snow for Christmas but sadly it is all gone and has been foggy and rainy over the past few days. I want some white stuff back on the ground again.
    Hope you have a wonderful week!
