AS THEY SAY..SOME GOOD NEWS AND SOME BAD NEWS...

The Good News is:

Even the clouds wore pink,
as they hovered over the Golden Gate bridge,
in celebration of Tami's 12th year
as a survivor
and the Avon 39 Walk to End Breast Cancer.

It was a beautiful weekend,
 full of camaraderie, positiveness
sunshine and hope,
with a fair amount of blisters thrown in.

Team Hospitality

We are not just
another bunch of well-dressed, pretty faces.

  We are a small part
 of a 100 + strong crew
 that supported a field
of about 2000 walkers
 this weekend in San Francisco.

 An amazing
 $4.6 million was raised
 to help continue the fight
 against breast cancer.

You may have seen this picture
I posted on Face Book of
 Tami
 and three of her
very handsome supporters...

...and her sweet little Rosie
 who was also proudly
 showing her support
 for mom.

A huge thank you to Avon
and to the countless numbers
 of sponsors and organizations
 around the world
that are trying so hard
 to put an end
 to this horrible disease.

Now, the Bad News:

We lost
 our sweet and kind
 little Maggie
last night.

Maggie came to us
 about fourteen years ago
 when the Captain found her
 living under the school house
 with one of her kittens.

 She couldn't have been
more than a kitten herself
at the time.
 They had been obviously abandoned.

 To a certain extent,
Maggie still hadn't lost
 her human connection,
 but her kitten
was as wild as could be.

 He caught them both
and took them to our vet
 where Maggie was found
to be pregnant again.

 They were both fixed
 and given up-to-date shots
 and we decided to bring
 Maggie into our family
and the school offered
to let the kitten stay there
and a number of kind citizens
 kept him in food.

That kitten still lives there to this day.

Maggie was a healthy
 but shy little girl,
 never wanting to be held
 and only coming to us
on her terms.

  When visitors came,
 she would just disappear
for as long as they were around.

When Buddy came to be with us,
 she tolerated being around him
unless he made a fast move
 and then she pulled her
 famous disappearing act!

 She never scratched the furniture,
she never begged for scraps or treats,
and she never jumped onto tables or counters.

  If she sounds
 like a perfect little lady,
 she was.

Her favorite places
in the whole world
were by the fire in the winter
 and then when summer came,
 in a pool of sunshine.

She lost her sight
but was still able to find
her box, her food and water, and her way back to bed.

 We hoped and prayed
that we would be able to realize
when pain came into the picture
and we were always on the look out.

  Yesterday,
she no longer wanted to eat and drink
and she suffered three small seizures.

We called a doctor in our area
 who comes to the home
so that she could have as little stress as possible.

 The doctor was scheduled
to arrive at 10:30 this morning
 but Maggie decided,
on her own terms as usual,
that she was ready to go
 during the night.

Good night
Sweet dreams to a sweet girl
We will miss you

We are so thankful
that you were a part of our family
and that you had a life
that you deserved.

Be happy to see
big brother Buddy and cousin Cooper
when you meet again
 on the other side of
the Rainbow Bridge.

  2. Oh Judy, such sad news about sweet little Maggie. It makes my heart hurt. You and the Captain did a wonderful thing in rescuing her and giving her a loving home for all these years. Pets bring so much to our lives, and it's so hard to lose them. You did well to determine that her time had come, and as you say, she ended things on her own terms. Do you still have your new little kitty?

I'm glad the walk for Breast Cancer was a success. I enjoyed your pictures. :) Take care, Judy, and I'm sorry about Maggie.

    Hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor

  3. Oh Judy, I am crying as I read this post. Such a loving little sweet kitty. Reminds me of when I lost Whoopie. I had made an appointment on 12/26 but Christmas eve she was very restless and then Christmas morning she moved into into the living room and laid down. - I covered her up and Waldo lay beside her. I had a Christmas dinner to go to and I would have cancelled but I was bringing food. When I got home she was dead exactly were she laid. But she went her way - it really tore me up, so I know exactly how you feel. I think they are so special when we find them and they love us to pieces for giving them a better life.

So glad that you had a good Breast Cancer walk. My ex daughter in law always goes on that walk.
So my dear sweet Judy and Captain, she will be waiting for you with Buddy at the Rainbow Bridge.
    Hugs,
    Mary

  5. Well done on the walk! And I am so sorry to hear about Maggie. I lost my dog three months ago and she, like Maggie, went on her own terms in the end. They leave such a void and my heart really goes out to you at this time xx

  8. I am so sorry for your loss! she was a beautiful cat and obviously brought many years of love and happiness into your family. My dog is 10 1/2 and can't see as well anymore. I believe he has a cataract in one of his eyes. It's sad to see them get old and feeble. Glad to hear that you had a good walk though. That's a wonderful cause and I've known so many that have had that dreadful cancer!

  14. So sorry for your loss, they are such a huge part of our lives. We had two cats, sisters that were over 18 years old, one passed away in March and the second just over a week ago, it is so quiet without them, so nice she could be at home.
