GO FORTH AND CONQUER...

Google Search

The sketch, above,
was provided by Althea Sherman who,
 back in the early 1900's,
wrote in her journal
 that the little house wren
was a far cry
from what I have depicted in past posts.
 She described them as
criminal birds,
 and frightful devils,
 performing evil deeds.

No one agreed with her at first but,
over time,
it became known that
 she was exactly right.

Of course,
we know that whatever they do
is all in the name of
preserving the specie
 but one thing for sure,
she didn't say,
is that they seem to be
a very fickle little creature.

  They have left the nest
for a second time
here at the Cottage.

 We had high hopes
of watching the birth of their babies
 but they had other ideas
and now,
whenever we sit on the porch,
we can hear their sweet song
coming through the trees
from a great distance,
reminding us that
they have moved on
once again.

This last week
has been a great occasion
for celebration.

  Jake and Jacenda, both,
 graduated from Santa Clara University.

  There were receptions and
a party at Jacenda's house
where her room mate's parents
supplied food and drinks.
We were happy to be able
 to share in the festivities
and to meet some
of their friends.

With his proud parents

And his proud grandparents

There was a time
when he pondered
if he would ever make
something of himself

Now Jake
has completed his education
and will have news soon
of the next phase of his life
and Jacenda
will continue on with her schooling
and you can be sure
that there will be more bragging
(from guess who)
 to come.

We are very proud of these two
and of all they have accomplished so far
and like the little fledglings,
they will go forth and conquer.

There is a big future
beyond our small world
and it is there
where their songs will be heard
 louder and stronger
than ever.

...Judy...

You all did so good!

CONGRATULATIONS!!

  1. Congrats to your young ones. They are so cute . Love seeing Jake little boy picture. :) My son-in-law told me wrens take over as many birdhouses, stuffing them with twigs so other birds can nest there. I think it's true one of our bluebird house was jam packed with twigs. The wrens just go nuts if we are in the backyard working. Such a racket. LOL. Blessings to all of you, xoxo, Susie

  2. Thanks, Susie. They do seem to have many strange traits, the birds not my kids! They really are pretty cool.. Thanks for your visit and have a great week..xxoJudy

    1. Thanks, Janice. I never thought much about bird watching before but right in my own back yard it is so interesting. Guess what? They are back and I am pretty sure they are sitting on eggs now..xxoJudy

  4. I'm not much of a birder, although I try with feeders and a birdbath in Michigan. My neighbor helps me with their names. I have a terrible problem with sparrows at both homes, house sparrows I think they are called. They dominate all of my birdhouses and feeders. I received some great advice that the don't like sunflower seeds---that has helped a lot. Are wrens similar?

Congrats to your graduates! Are they your grandchildren? Both are so sweet looking, and I send best wishes that they pursue their dreams!

    1. Thank you, Jane. I remember the swallows from a long time ago building nests under the eaves of our house. They make a big mess and return year after year. Our wrens just live in the little pink house and I don't see any messes at all. They have come back again and, I believe, they are sitting on eggs. Jake is our grandson and Jacenda is his girlfriend. We are so proud of both of them. They have worked really hard to get to this point..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  5. Congrats to the graduates. So great to see the young generation excited to go out in this world and make a mark. I have a few bird feeders and the sparrows seem to be the dominate ones. I do on occasion see a cardinal couple and of course I have a few Robins that like to come when I water. I have never seen any other bird like Robins that like to be sprayed with a hose. I have two that come when I water and allow me to spray on them when it is hot. Have a great week.

    1. Thanks so much, Kris. We are pretty proud of the two of them. That conjures up such a cute sight of seeing the Robins getting sprayed. How fun. It appears that our little guys are back and, now, I think they are sitting on eggs. We shall see, they are such a mystery..xxoJudy

Thanks about my header. I has a white line going through it (don't know if you can see it or not). Don't know where it came from..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  10. Lovely post and I bet you are so proud of your grandson! Love your new header also and the story of the birds. We have only had tree swallows nest in a little house I had hung up, but they stayed the entire summer and nested and had their babies.. and the male and female stuck very close to the nest. Then one day, they were gone! Don't know where they went and they didn't come back the following year. It was so much fun to watch those little heads stick out with their mouths open, waiting for mom or dad to bring them food! Have a nice week! Marilyn

    1. Thanks so much, Marilyn. I really do think they are back and sitting on eggs now. Read where they could lay up to 10 eggs. I can't imagine where they would all fit in that little house. Hope it works out..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy

    1. Thanks, AnnMarie. I never was a bird watcher, but these little things really caught my attention so I did google some things about them. We have a big walnut tree overhanging the garden and usually we have lots of squirrels there, but last year we didn't have any and so far not this year either. We don't feed the birds so I don't mind the squirrels. I love watching them but they did dig up a few tulips in past years making room for their nuts..xxoJudy

  13. Three cheers on your good news with the graduates and alas for your wren. I saw mine again going into the house outside Lizzie's window. So I'm thinking there's something there but I've seen no action when she's not around. We'll wait and see.
