SILENCE IS GOLDEN...

Sunday morning
when I let Robin out
it was like we were living in
a fairyland
where all my dreams could come true
and the world was covered with
 a white quilt
that kept all the warmth inside
and all the noise of life out.
 It was like a poem
that I heard only with
 my eyes.

I'm only speaking for myself,
as I am aware that
this situation
is a way of winter life for many
and not always a happy one at that...
but, for me,
that stillness that falls from the sky,
 that keeps the cars
from driving by at race track speed
and makes everything just plain clean,
is a sight to hold close
 to my heart.

The branches of the butterfly bush
are bending down but,
 at this point,
 Mother Nature is being kind
 and they will return
to their graceful ways
when she is through
with them.

The crepe myrtle
is made of stronger stock
so it can hold the weight
of all this beauty
 as it plays over
 her branches.

My new camera
 has a larger lens
so I can take clear photos
from a distance
such as the one, above,
through the
 kitchen window.

This is what my world was like
 at 7:30 Sunday morning.

 By 11:30,
the sun had come out
and most of the snow was melting.
 It stayed very cold, however,
and throughout the day
we had a difference of opinion
between the
snow, hail, rain, and sun.
No one seemed
to come out as
 the winner.

Throughout the night
 it remained cold and icy
and now the frost
 is on the pumpkin...

...and even though
this event was of great enjoyment,
 we still have high hopes
that the harbingers of spring
are not far behind...

...and for some,
 until then,
a quiet spot before the fire
will do just fine,
thank you very much!

...Judy...

  1. Oh- Judy! How very very beautiful! I love that you had such a pretty snowfall and were able to take such gorgeous pictures. Lucky you!!! We have MORE snow coming tonight -about 6" or so I am told---this on top of the record snowfall for February here already (none of which has melted). I am SOOOO ready for Spring! If you want MORE SNOW- I will be glad to send ours your way.
BTW, I spend an enjoyable afternoon going through those two Romantic Homes magazines you sent me. It was a nice distraction while I was sitting "watching" SweetCheeks as she recovered from her surgery. That was so sweet of you.
I hope you have a wonderful Tuesday-xo Diana

    1. Thanks, Susie. You would like it here then, as no matter how cold it is or how much snow we get, the sun always melts it pretty quickly. Guess I'm lucky..Happy Weekend..Judy

  3. The snow moon was awesome this morning. With the trees full of ice and the sky a purple blue color against the white moon. Just wish I could have taken a picture of it. Your snow pics were pretty. Janice

    1. Thanks, Janice. I wish you had a picture too, I imagine that was really beautiful. When it snows here it seems beautiful as we don't get to see snow that often but where you are must be really something..Happy Weekend..Judy

  5. It's like Mother Nature gave you a very special gift! You have so many sweet things in your yard that look all dressed up with the snow. Reminds me that I need to place more whimsy in my yard, just for the fact that I can take some pretty snow pictures! When it snows here, I don't have trinkets in my yard, like I did at my other house and I miss that. I'd better get busy this summer! Your cottage all covered with white was a delightful sight. We've had some snow here but not too much for which I'm VERY thankful. I DO love the quiet it brings too. Have a blessed week. Marilyn

    1. Thanks so much, Marilyn. The first snowfall before anyone walks on it is so special. That's when the quiet is the best. We don't put as much out in our garden now as we have had things stolen a few times. One was a prize old bike that we had. We live right on the street so it is fairly easy for someone to jump the fence at night..Hope you have a great weekend..Judy

  6. Oh so lovely - such beauty in a little bit of snow. The Crepe Myrtle looks like a deer dancing in the snow. And what a nice day to sit before the warm fire. Our snow is still here - though it has finally stopped coming down. Slow to melt in these cold temperatures, we still have about 8 inches - hopefully it will be gone and spring will surprise us one day. Happy rest of the week my dear.

    1. Thanks, Jeanie. Yes, a little camera time was enough. Now, I stay on the porch and let Robin go down on her own!. I don't know how she stands it, her little feet get so cold..Happy Weekend..Judy

  8. Everything looks magical in the snow.

I don't think we will ever get snow, but we are sure having cold weather here. It's good because I'm getting lots of projects finished.

    1. Thanks, Carol. I think that is why I like the snow so much. Our garden tends to look very cruddy and stragley this time of year, and the snow makes it look beautiful. It is very cold still when the snow melts and all I want to do is sit by the fire and get nothing done!..Happy Weekend..Judy

  9. That pretty blanket of snow sure does make things a lot quieter and anything to slow down traffic and have less of it for spell is always good. You sure did get some. So pretty. Love the shot of your home in the snow. Your camera did take a great shot with the larger lens. What kind did you get? I think I need my eyes examined because no matter what I take a picture of these days and with what doesn't seem to turn out like I want it. Your sweet lil doggy is soooo cute wrapped all snuggly warm.
Enjoy the snow, before ya know it, it will be 100 degrees out. - Betsy

    1. Thanks, Betsy. I got a Canon Power Shot SX 530. I am beginning to really like it but is taking awhile to get used to. We got more snow and heavier and then the sun was out when I was taking pictures and the glare makes it hard for me to see what I'm doing, so alot of the tops of things are cut off! Talk about needing an eye adjustment! I am not getting your comments (or anyone's for that matter) in my inbox so am having to answer them here. If anyone doesn't come back and look at the post again, they won't know that I did answer. I will address that in my next post, if I can't figure it out before..Have a great weekend, my friend..Judy

  11. Judy,
Beautiful photos and I especially love the one of the outside of your house!! Magical!! I think we got the same weather that you had, last night!! Snow and ice!! That seems to pretty much be the story of our Winter here in NEPA!! I know I may have asked you this before but what type of camera did you buy?

    1. Thanks so much, Deb. We had much more the next day, but the sun comes out right away and things melt pretty quickly. I got a Canon Power Shot SX530. I'm beginning to get the hang of it but still don't take advantage of all the different settings. I suppose I'll figure it out eventually..Happy Weekend..Judy

  12. Judy you captured some beautiful pictures of the snowfall. We get so much of this white stuff that we cannot appreciate it like you guys that only get it on occasion. It was good to see that you can stop and see the beauty in the snowfall. It does make things looks pretty when it is a soft snowfall. I think most of us in the midwest are done with the snowfall and would love to see Spring and new life and more sunshine. It is not so much the snow as the lack of sunshine. Your house looks magical with the snow.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  13. Hello, Dear Judy, your snow photos are truly magical - like a fairytale. I love the 'difference of opinion' with the weather - such a delight to read your posts. It's amazing how snowfall can soften the sounds and slow life down, isn't it? It's almost like time stands still for a little while. It looks like you and your sweet fur-baby are staying cozy and warm while we wait for spring. Love how your charming cottage looks under a blanket of snow. Sending hugs xo Karen

    1. Thank you so much, Karen. I feel the same about your cottage wrapped up in the snow. We had another "storm" the next day but the sun came out bright and strong and took most of it away. If I were to be honest, I'm sure that is the reason why I love the snow so much..Happy Weekend..Judy

  14. Oh Judy! I just loved all the delightful pictures you took of the snow! Such lovely pictures you have captured! Isn't the snow just so lovely! I do so love the snow, and how it makes everything so beautiful. Your cottage is darling all decked out in its shimmering white cloak! Glad that you got to enjoy a taste of winter :) I am still in love with winter here, but I will be ready for spring come March :) Blessings and hugs!

    1. Thanks, Marilyn. It really was a sight to see and we had another the next day, even more. The sun seems to come out right after it stop snowing so it doesn't last very long. Only back in the corners and crevices and then that stays for awhile. Everybody should be so lucky, I know!..Happy Weekend..Judy

  15. Your pictures are beautiful and that snowy scene looks peaceful, and quiet.
Snowy days are often 'hushed' type of days, as few venture out, unless they need to.

I saw a poll this morning on the news; how many people are ready for spring, and how many are still loving winter?
Overwhelmingly, Spring won out, as we have had a ton of snow and a very cold winter here.
We are curling up by the fire today, and watching old movies.

How fun for you to have a new camera and I look forward to seeing all your great pictures and stories you will post!

    Warm wishes.
    ~K.

  16. Thanks, Kerin. Even though I can say I really love the snow, and mean it, that doesn't mean I am not looking forward to spring. I love those sunny days as it gets a little too hot later on..Happy Weekend..Judy

  17. Judy, snow is magical. There is no doubt about it. The earth is transformed and quieted by that beautiful blanket of white. And while I know I complain about winter {a lot}, I really do enjoy the snow the first few times it falls. The season just drags on for far too long in my neck of the woods, but I'm not sure I could live in a place that didn't get snow at least once or twice a year. I hope you enjoyed your brush with old man winter. It sure seems like you did!! xoxo

  18. Kim thanks so much. We have had two fairly decent snow storms now and snow still remains in the shady spots. I do love living where "some" snow falls, it was getting tedious when we lived in the Bay area and just got total fog most of the time. With all that, I am ready for spring now, thank you. The sun comes out and melts the snow usually right away, but it still is too cold..Happy Weekend..Judy
