BELIEVE IT OR NOT...

Snow Storm #1

For someone who is always complaining
that not enough snow falls in the winter,
believe it or not,
 we have actually had
three snow storms so far...

Snow storm #2

...in our garden,
we don't measure snow fall
in inches or feet,
 we measure by how burdened
the butterfly bush is.

Snow storm #3

The third snow fall
 was the heaviest
and covered more of
the landscape.

We get to see
all the beauty and,
because we live in California,
the sun always comes out
 and melts the snow
 pretty quickly.

When it all
plays out like that,
 we consider ourselves lucky.

Believe it or not,
I can name two
definite signs of spring,
coming to life,
 in our garden...

...along with
 the tender leaves
of a rose bush...

...and the soft moss
 at the base of the
old redwood tree.

Even though those are
good signs of the coming spring,
I do need a little more color
in my world at this time,
so I've changed up a few pillows
and added in
some spring greens.

"Like seeds dreaming
Beneath the snow,
Your heart dreams of spring."

Kahlil Gibran

So, with the chill of the wind
and the return of
gray skies...

...and once I get motivated
to take the Christmas tree
down in the kitchen
and erase the Captain's
attempt at humor...

...believe it or not,
I will be so
ready for spring.

...Judy...

Here is an update
that I just found out.
For those of you who follow
Diane of Lavender Dreams,
she has a new address:

Google/Blogger just shut her down
 for no apparent reason
and she is trying to find out why.
 I wasn't aware
that could be done,
without, at least,
 notifying you first,
 but I guess it can.
The word is
that we should be backing up our blogs.

(Go to Blogger, settings, other,
back up content and save to computer).

It's as simple as that and after the initial time, you need to do it probably once a month from then on.

(Thanks to NanaDiana for her help in all things Blogger and life!)

  1. Wow! That looks so beautiful...especially with the bright blue sky in the background! We live in Florida and don't get snow here but we're having a nice gentle rain today so that's refreshing! My old blog is back today! lavenderdreamstoo dot blogspot dot com They didn't email or contact us, it just came back after over a week of being removed!!! So I am happy but also holding my breath that I'll be able to keep it. Thank you so much for getting this info out to our blog friends. It's been wonderful to have support and encouragement from everyone! Sweet hugs, Diane

    1. Hi Diane. I'm so glad you got your blog back up. That was a really nasty thing to have happened. I want to thank you for your kind words and let you know that I, all of the sudden, stopped getting comments from readers into my inbox. I reached out and was told what to do to set it right, and I did. Now the comments are back in but everyone is listed as a non-blogger commentor, which most weren't before, so I am leaving my thank yous here on my post. I don't imagine many come back to read them, but it is the best I can do. I am tired of this changing up constantly. Haven't they ever heard if it isn't broke don't fix it?!!. I tried to leave this on your new blog but it is accepting no new comments..Have a good weekend..Judy

  4. Judy,
It does look lovely!! We are supposed to get some snow overnight.... We can still see snow as late as April!! Your Spring decor looks lovely.... I will not be decorating for Easter this year as I is going to be too much physically for me and my surgery is scheduled for the week after Easter....

  5. I do find it pretty to look at the snow at YOUR house- not so much fun to look at it here. lol We are in the middle of ANOTHER snow storm-up to 6" tonight on top of the feet we already have on the ground..AND ice. Biggest accident in WI history just below us on Sunday- 130(?) car pileup on a major highway and they are still trying to untangle the mess.

Thank you for thanking me but I can hardly help myself....lol....I am glad to help wherever I can with my limited knowledge. xo Diana

  6. Wow, Judy...so much snow. Are you sure you're in California? You have more snow than we do and that's just not right! Well, enjoy it. It really is pretty and like you said, it'll melt and be a memory in no time. And boy oh boy will you be ready for those tulips and daffodils. xo

  7. It certainly has been a winter for the record book!
We've been clobbered by winter here as well. A dear friend called me yesterday to report that she has a dandelion in her grass and exclaimed "Spring is here"!
I sure got a chuckle about that!!!

The Captain cracks me up! You must have to keep on your toes around him :)

Have a lovely rest of your week.

  8. Hi Judy.... yes some bright colors may help a little bit! Your Snow #3 is so pretty! And I love seeing the blue skies against the white. We've had a few days of being dumped on too. We had 18" yesterday, and it started snowing again in the afternoon, and now we gained at least another 6 inches! So 2 feet??? That's alot for here but not unheard of (central Oregon). More coming tonight too! I just got the car dug out yesterday so I could get to the store.. and now it's covered again with at least 6 more inches. Hubby is sick so the shoveling is left to me. Ugh. I want to move to California... wait! no! not California! They are getting snow too! :-) Hubby's note to you is so funny! Oh.. and I went and backed up my blog, but don't know if backs up photos at all and then once it does do the backup.. how in the world would you restore it?? It looks like a bunch of gobble-dee-gook to me! It's all a mystery to me. I do have most of my blog photos on my computer anyway, so that's a good thing. Hugs... Marilyn

  9. I understand that changes are coming in March. I need to read more about it. Good point about backing up the blog posts. I will check again to make sure mine is still doing so. Thank you for reminding everyone. I am wondering what happened. Wow..
Your home shot in the snow is just so beautiful and the color of your home is one I really like.
    Happy Wednesday

  10. Love that you get some of this white stuff and it looks so pretty in your pictures. We have had more than our share here in the midwest and want to see an early Spring. Staying hopeful we will see Spring soon. Have a great rest of the week Judy.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  11. Love all you white snow and how quickly it can melt away! Your home looks beautiful in the snow! Here in the Midwest we’ve had our share! Its been bitterly cold and windy. I'm going to start some seeds which will help me feel Spring is closer! I feel terrible for Diane!

  12. This cottage is the most peaceful place I have seen. I wish I could live in that, but unfortunately that's not happening!

  13. Thanks for the info on backing up. I will do that today. I was just getting ready to post about Diane and she said her blog is back. I'll still post on it -- the back up thing is good and I may share that too.

Your snow is far prettier than ours! And I hope not as long lasting!
