Happy New Year
I hope
each and everyone of you
had a wonderful Christmas holiday and
a Happy New Year celebration.
each and everyone of you
had a wonderful Christmas holiday and
a Happy New Year celebration.
All of our Christmas decorations
are still in place.
Everything looks as pretty
as it did on the first day.
I mostly used faux greens this year
so I don't have a lot of needles falling.
Real garlands of cedar were used
on the mantles and the beauty of that is,
unless forceably touched,
it is not as easy for them
to drop their needles.
I need to start putting things away,
I know,
but it doesn't feel right
quite yet.

We had such a great time
with the kids this year.
It was very special
that they made the trip
so we could all celebrate time
at the Cottage.
Tami had to work until
5:00 on Christmas Eve
and then they had an almost
four hour trip to get here.
They arrived about 9:00,
with Jake and Jacenda arriving
just a little before,
with all their arms
loaded down with pretty packages.
Of course,
for someone who almost always has
a camera in hand,
I totally forgot to take any pictures.
By the time we got through catching up
it was almost midnight
before we started opening presents.
On Christmas day,
they had to leave
as they spend the day with
Tim's side of the family.
We usually take them out to breakfast
on the day that they are heading back home,
to a restaurant here
that they enjoy,
but it was closed, so the Captain and I
fixed breakfast for everyone.

Our New Year's celebration
consisted of looking up an old photo
that I took after my
first year of blogging, 2011, (above)
and catching up on
some of the Hallmark Christmas movies
that we had missed during
all the preparations.
We were in bed by 10:00
(the dogs won't have it any other way)
and slept through New Year's,
which is our normal way of celebrating!

What was just seeming to
look a lot like Christmas
is beginning to look somewhat
like winter around here.
Very cold and some frosty mornings
but mostly sunny during the days so far.
No snow is in the forecast and
it is shaping up to be
a typical winter
here abouts.
I told you way back in summer
that it was all a Cottage stew and
here is the proof.
I made a big pot for Christmas Eve and
it has lasted us
for most of
the following week.
I will be back
on my weekly schedule from now on,
with a look back at my
most popular ten posts of the past year,
next Tuesday.
I do want to thank everyone again
for their kind comments about the
Sounds of Christmas Cottage Tour and
to remind all
that I will be leaving my
individual thank you's
under each of your comments,
on my post,
from now on.
Until then,
continue on enjoying
the happiest of new years.

Awesome posts...Delightful pictures! Happy 2020!I never get tired of looking your stunning decorations...
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Maristella. Happy 2020 to you also and I always appreciate your visits..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteHi Judy. My comments don't seem to go through with Google so I am trying with Google Chrome.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that your family got home for Christmas. I spent Christmas with my daughter and family near Montreal. Had a great time. I still have my decorations up. I will take them down on the weekend.
The cake and cookies look delicious on the Blue Willow plate. My sister has that set of dishes. We used it also for Supper last night, New Years Eve. I stay with my sister Annie for the Winter months and she comes home with me in the Spring and stay with me all Summer in Gaspe. Happy New Year to you my friend. Thelma xo
Thanks so much, Thelma. Your comment came through loud and clear and I really appreciate it. I bet you had a beautiful white Christmas where you were. What a great set up with you and your sis exchanging time together. That must be so much fun. I don't get to spend that much time with my sister but it is always fun when we do..Happy New Year, my friend..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Judy! Your holidays sound lovely and your New Year's Eve sounds delightful. We were up many hours past midnight waiting for the calls to pick up kids from parties. We were Uber!! ;) Your home looks so beautiful. I took down 90% of Christmas right away, but the trees are still up. Funny, I seem to have found my Christmas spirit now that the holiday has passed. Oh well. All the best in 2020 my friend and I'm looking forward to your peek back at 2019!! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim. It was a lovely holiday and I just hate to let it go. I remember the days of waiting up for the kids and I only miss that just a little bit. Your home always looks just like Christmas to me, there is something about the lighting and your colors that make it seem special. I'm glad you are keeping a bit of the Christmas spirit and it doesn't really matter when it comes. Happy New Year sweet girl ..xxoJudy
DeleteGlad your family was able to spend some time with you at Christmas. I too do not want to take down the Christmas decor yet...I still am enjoying the twinkling of the lights at night. Happy New Years! Beautiful photos! Janice
ReplyDeleteThank you, Janice. Even though I always enjoy Christmas time, I am usually ready to start the take down process on New Year's day, but for some reason I am not ready yet this year. The lights are always so magical and being that it is turning cold, it makes the night sparkle..Happy New Year my friend..xxoJudy
DeleteJudy,
ReplyDeleteI am with you in that I am not quite ready to part with Christmas as of yet... Maybe by Monday....I have time now that I do not have to hurry to take it down on the days I am off...Sounds like you had a truly wonderful Christmas, my friend!! I stayed up for the ball drop but Joe was in bed around 9 pm... I stay up usually until about 11 pm .....I am looking forward to seeing what you will do next in your lovely Cottage....Happy New Year to you and your Family and thanks so much for stopping by!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Thanks so much, Deb. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I have been retired now for about 12 years and I still can't get past that I have more than the weekends to get stuff done. I know there is a lot that I would like to do to the Cottage, but whether it will get done remains to be seen. The Captain thinks it all has been done! Happy 2020 to you and your family, my friend..xxoJudy
DeleteHappy 2020 Judy. Glad you had a great time with your family all arriving to spend time at the cottage. Wishing you lots of joy, good health and a lot of happiness for the new year.
ReplyDeletexoxo
Thanks so much, Kris. I know you are enjoying the time spent with the grands and can't wait to see what you will be up to in 2020. I am looking forward to it..Happy New Year, my friend..xxoJudy
DeleteIt sounds lovely, Judy. And I'm so grateful you still have your Christmas up because I do too and after reading blogs, I'm beginning to think I'm the only one! I fear mine will be up a little beyond what it should be due to other issues but still! All the photos, simply glorious. Happy New Year, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeanie. Don't ever worry about being the only one if you are a friend of mine. Sometimes I get embarrassed if our lights are the only ones left on in the neighborhood! Seriously, I usually start on New Year's day but, for some reason, this year is different. I'm liking the fact that everything still looks good to me so they might be here for awhile longer..Happy New Year..xxoJudy
DeleteHappy New Year Judy! How wonderful that your family came to YOU at the Cottage! Too bad they couldn't have stayed for Christmas Day too, but some time is better than no time spent together. It sounded like so much fun. Hubby and I had a quiet Christmas alone, but we enjoyed it. Then spent the entire day on Dec. 28th with my sister and her hubby, and my nephew and his (pregnant) wife. It was a joy to be with them in their lovely little log cabin in the woods. No snow, but lots of twinkling lights! I am enjoyed the few decorations I did get up.. .not until around Dec. 21st or so... so will leave them up probably another week or so. I love the tree and little twinkling lights and always hate to take it down. All the yummies you made look wonderful.. that cake... yum. My mom used to make pound cakes every year, with tons of butter.. in those spring foam pans. I have a pan like that but have only used it once I think! The the cookies.. oh boy.. I could eat one right now. I'm trying to stay away from sugar, but it's awfully hard this time of year! I feel so much better when I don't eat sugar. Enjoy your cottage for awhile longer with all the Christmas spirit here and there and everywhere! Like you said... sometimes the spirit of the season doesn't hit us until after. I'm kind of feeling that way.. I finally have time now to make the fabric Christmas gift bags that I wanted to make BEFORE Christmas... didn't get done, but now I'm working on some for next year! Hugs.... Marilyn
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Marilyn. Mine will stay up awhile longer, for sure. I'm glad you did spend time with your family. That is always fun. That cake is a Sherry Wine cake. It became a staple years ago at all family doings, courtesy of Jerry's sister. It is really a good, moist cake and I'll share the recipe some time..I always have a great desire to start crafting way before the next Christmas but, so far, haven't done it yet..Happy New Year..xxoJudy
DeleteI agree, and taking a breath and enjoying Christmas aftermath is wonderful. We will take our Christmas down starting the 5th....! You had lots of lovely photos, but most important was enjoying your family. This year seemed so rushed, and wierd with everyone in our family working quite late on Christmas Eve. But, we still did the Christmas Eve Dinner, even though the Grand and others were twitching waiting for the presents exchange. Have a great New Year, and I always enjoy your blog, Judy! I can finally comment again!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sandi. I'm glad that you got things straightened out. I still don't know why everyone comes to me as a no-comment, therefore, the reason I am leaving all these messages. It was hard with the kids working so late, we get used to having them around all the time when raising them, but we managed. We have always opened gifts on Christmas Eve, so we were determined to continue the tradition, no matter what..Happy New Year..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteJudy, your posts always delight. And your first photo is a reminder that I have some bulbs to plant ASAP! Hope I'm not too late! Happy New Year, my friend!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sarah, and Happy New Year. I bought that paperwhite at Trader Joe's and it didn't have any blooms yet, about 1 week before Christmas. It ended up with two cluster of blooms and I know a lot of people don't care for their scent but I really love it. It has gotten so tall that I have to lean it up against something to make it stand up.. Sad to say I don't have any bulbs planted either..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy
DeleteMe again!! Wanted to stop by to Thank You for your visit and kind words on my post about my friend Anne Marie's home...She appreciated them...Oddly, right before that post, I had sent her a link to your blog because I knew she would love it and she did. She also loves your sense of humor as do I!!Looking forward to more posts showcasing your lovely Cottage in 2020!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Deb
Deb, you are too kind! Thanks for sending my blog on to her and I'm glad she enjoyed it. If we can't laugh most of the time, I think we would be in a pickle, especially at ourselves..Happy New Year...xoxoJudy
DeleteHi Judy
ReplyDeleteI didn't take any pictures of the happenings at Christmas day either. I asked my husband to so I am hoping there are some on his phone. It's just so busy. Looks like you had a very happy busy time also.
Your stew looks so good, one my husband would like for sure. Your wreath is just so pretty.
I am still running very slow after Christmas, I hope I pick up speed soon.
Thanks so much, Betsy. I can't believe that I forgot to take any pictures. I could kick myself. It was a busy time and now, just this morning, I got the master bedroom put back to normal but that's it so far. I think it might be OK to be slow after it all this year..Happy New Year..xoxoJudy
ReplyDeleteLook very yummy:)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kinga. Hope you are enjoying a happy new year so far..xxoJudy
