THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD...

THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Once upon a time,
we had a family of wrens
 living in the
 Little Pink Cottage.

After raising a trio of little peepers,
they flew the coop, so to speak, and
 were never seen again
 until two days ago.

  Now,
 they have returned
to set up housekeeping once again.

 Mr. Wren
 goes about his daily chores
of providing for his family and
Mrs. Wren
stays home
performing her wifely duties,
 much as they did before,
however,
something has changed.

  Mr. Wren
is not as attentive
 as he once was and,
a little birdie told me,
that he has taken to
going out at night and carousing.

 The other night
 he might have imbibed in
 too much liquid bird seed,
or maybe he is just color blind,
but he got his cottages mixed up and
 somehow entered the blue cottage
instead of the pink one.

While I was in bed reading,
he was flying around the room.
 I screamed and
dove under the covers,
waking the Captain in the process and
he let Mr. Wren out the door.

 He must have come in
sometime during the day
when we were going in and out.

 They are very fast and
sneaky little birds.

I hope
 all you moms had
a wonderful Mother's Day.

 The kids sent me
this beautiful old fashioned bouquet and
we talked on the phone.
The flowers are so pretty and
 just fill the Cottage with
their heavenly scent.

 The Captain, Robin and Kai
served me a delicious breakfast and
we watched movies
most of the day.

 A simple and serene
Mother's Day.

I've gotten
 a bit more done
 on the painting and...

...here
is my first "original".
I drew and painted
this blue hydrangea bloom
all on my own
from start to finish.

How are things going in your town?
 Has much opened up yet?
I haven't been out
 so I don't even know
if anything is open here yet and,
 to be honest,
 I am in
no hurry to
 find out.

Stay smart, safe and well...

Wear your masks and practice safe distancing.

In my opinion,

 if for no other reason,

it shows respect to all those
who have lost their lives
 so far,

 and for those
 who are working so hard
to prevent
 more loss to come.

We are all in this together
but, each of us as individuals,
must take our share of responsibility
for the outcome.

...Judy...

    1. Thank you, Debby. You have to know that I am not a bird lover. I do love the fact that they are setting up house, and I can watch them from my screened porch, but how dare they come into my space. It really freaks me out to be close to one..I'm glad you like the photos. I do enjoy taking them..Stay well..xxoJudy

  4. How funny that Mr Wren went to the wrong cottage. I have not heard mine yet. They make a nest every year in a birdhouse I have too. So love your hydrangea painting. Very pretty! Janice

    1. Thank so much, Janice. They are very quiet, I don't hear a peep out of them. He only sings from up in the tree when he is about to deliver food. I say he, but who knows? I think they both do the gathering. I didn't think it was funny as I can't stand being close to birds and he was flying low! Stay well..xxoJudy

  6. Oh! A bird in your house?? Wow, that's crazy! We had one once, when I was about 7 months pregnant with number two, number one in a high chair and a kitty who wanted to show me her very much alive "offering". When she opened her mouth to meow, it flew out and all over my house. We managed to get her out, but it was a wrestling match the involved another pregnant mom and her own toddler. Quite a sight for sure!! Glad you're staying in...

    1. O, Kim, that sounds like it would be my worst nightmare. If I had been here by myself, I think I would have died under the covers! I love birds as long as I can look at them from inside my screened porch!..Take care and stay well and thanks for your visit..xxoJudy

  7. OMG...that's funny. Today we were outside all day gardening. We also put together a new HUGE tile top table and 9' umbrella. Papa Sparrow was on top of a birdhouse 10 feet away scolding us through the whole time we were on the deck. I talk to the birds, and have one that answers and trills away when I say 'Good Morning'. Not, Papa sparrow. I have to admit, I loved your story, and I do hope I don't end up with a bird on the back porch or in the greenhouse or one of our 4 sheds...Yikes. Gorgeous post, I hope you had a great Mother's Day! Sandi

    1. Thanks so much, Sandi. I hope you had a good Mother's Day too. That sounds like a gorgeous table. Well, a story has to be good but in real time I didn't like it at all. I am not a bird lover unless I am contained inside my screened porch. I made hubby run a broom all over under the bed and on top of the doors before bed the next night..So far I've been safe..Take care and stay well..xxoJudy

  8. Oh Judy that cracked me up about Mr. Wren getting in your house. He must have been drinking too much of the hummingbird juice that night lol! Glad they feel safe to come back and roost at your pretty cottage. Glad you had a lovely Mother's Day and the kids gifted you with beauty. Love your painting. It is coming along so nicely. Have a great week. We are finally getting some nice weather so I will begin my plants outside.
    Hugs,
    Kris

    1. Thanks so much, Kris. Mr. Wren has behaved himself since then so no more night time visits. I am almost through with the painting and that is why I have nothing else to show for my time. I have got to get back into the swing of things around here. I can't wait to see your beautiful flowers..Stay well and safe, my friend..xxoJudy

  9. LOL! I love your Wren story and started laughing when Mr Wren got confused and ended up in the wrong cottage. Our house/farm has become a bird habitat lately. Most are welcome but wish they'd lodge at the barn. LOL
I know a few things have opened around here but I haven't ventured out a whole lot but some.

    1. Thanks, Carla. I'm glad you are staying safe. I only like birds from a distance so I wasn't happy about the visitor. Things are starting to open here also but I haven't gone anyplace yet and I really don't plan to. It is way to soon to convince me that I need to go anyplace plus I notice that no one is wearing masks and I think that is dispicable..Stay well..xxoJudy

  10. Oh Judy.. that was SO funny! I can just picture you hiding under the covers! Mr. Wren... tish tish... you'd better get your houses straight! I'm glad you had a nice Mother's Day.. and I love your hydrangea painting! You did beautifully for sure.. and the sunflowers are looking quite perky too. I've taken up some crocheting to pass the time, plus my paper crafting of course, and trying to get yard work done. Our town is still pretty shut down but some things may open this Friday, but I still WOULD NOT go into a restaurant or movie theater, or anywhere that has such close quarters. I'm still going to social distance for quite some time and not get close to anyone (except hubby). I''ll continue to go through a drive-through for food if I want to "eat out".... and if I go anywhere, will keep my distance, sanitize, etc. as I have been. I want to give it another few months. That virus is still "out there".. it's not going to just disappear. Have a nice rest of the week! Marilyn

    1. Thanks, Marilyn. It sounds like our towns are similar. Do you see a lot of people without masks? I sure do and it really makes me mad. Like you, it will be quite awhile before I venture out. We are going to meet the kids half way when they bring our groceries on Saturday. It makes it a shorter trip for them and gets us out for a bit but we will not leave the car. They are still shopping for us but we have cut it down to every two weeks..You are right, this virus is around for the long haul, I'm afraid..Stay well and safe..xxoJudy

  11. I can't say I blame Mr. Wren. We're all eager to be out and about. I hope he kept a good distance from his buddies at the bird feeder. I noticed several places opening up for delivery and picking up orders right near me. We're still pretty much buttoned up, but it's nice to see a little more life going on around me. I'm not changing any of my behavior. Still not ready to ride the bus to get further from home. I'm about to begin to set up overdo medical appointments for July. Some can be put off, but the eye doctor is one I should do. Take care!

    1. Thank you so much for the visit. Things are opening up but I am seeing a lot without masks and that makes me really mad. I am not ready to shop or go out to eat and that will probably last quite a while yet. I do have a doc appointment on June 2 and will have to go to the lab for blood test before that but will watch what I am doing and wear my mask and gloves.. Hope that helps!..Stay well..xxoJudy

  12. Three cheers on your original painting. It's lovely! I'm going to challenge you to repaint as an original your sunflowers. I bet it will be just as good if not better than the numbers! I'm glad the wrens are back. We're in lockdown till May 28 but more things are opening for curbside pick up, construction is back in gear and manufacturing begins tomorrow. Me? I'm not going anywhere.

    1. Thanks so much, Jeanie. The hydrangea was a simple project but I am happy with it. That is quite a challenge you have given me but I could never put that together. I probably could do a live arrangement that would stand up to it and maybe that would be a fun thing to do some time but for now I am looking forward to finishing it. Things are going on around here much the same as yours and the only place I am going is to doc's appt. which is a necessary evil..Stay well and stay safe, my friend..xxoJudy

  15. Thanks so much, Kerin. Not such a cute one! I can tell all the stories I want and laugh about it now, but I'm surprised my heart holds up when I get around anything with wings!! It is not pleasant for me, but I appreciate your kind words..Take care, my friend, and stay well..xxoJudy

  16. Such a cute story. Mr, wren surely is confused. Your Mother’s day sounds perfect. Mine was simple as usual, just Paul and I. Love your painting Judy. Continue to remain safe and hopefully things will get back to normal. Thanks for sharing at Love Your Creativity. Have a happy week.,

  18. Beautiful hydrangea picture. I like your style of painting.
Neighborhood would have heard me screaming my lungs out. My sister is having a terrible time with cardinals and especially a male that keeps flying at her house. It's almost like he wants in. Eerie sound throughout the day. I like birds but they need to stay in there own little place, not mine. I had blue jays try to chase me but I came after them and they flew off. Mean little things.
    Have a great week,
    betsy

  19. Thanks so much, Betsy. Oh, if that were happening to me I don't think I could take it. I have never seen a cardinal in real life but they look so beautiful, but keep them away from me! Stay well and safe..xxoJudy
