Do you recognize this roadway?
Does it look familiar?
If not, no worries,
I hardly recognize it myself,
it has been so long it seems.
It is a thin ribbon of a highway
with curvy corners but a very good face lift since it was last traveled.
Sometimes both sides look the same,
a green and healthy environment,
but sometimes there are places that look like they could go up in flames it is so dry.
Seen in the distance
is something that you never want to see.
Haven't heard of any fires in the area
so don't know what it means
but living in California,
you can never take for granted this particular sign.
There are many destinations at the end of this winding road,
but one of the sweetest is where we are heading to today.
It has been awhile since we have been able to wander these parts
and with each trip there comes memories of many roads traveled before...
...and what old winding road doesn't have
a neglected lavender field...
...or a Boot Hill?
When the kids were small,
we traveled many a road very similar to this one
and, while each one was a mission of excitement at the beginning,
there were, invariably, the many questions asked each time:
"Are we there yet, how long before we get there,
will we have to stop at an antique shop along the way?"
Little voices asking so many questions.
Today was no different.
We started out with two soft, cuddly beds in the back seat,
looking forward to a comfortable drive
without the heat of little bodies on top of us.
But now, in our Golden Years,
we have to put up with
a different kind of whining, literally!!
To keep the peace,
we pull over and take two hot, tired little bodies
up into the front seat with us...
the whining stops immediately.
Imagine that!
"Oh, Mama,
I know your butt is numb and your knees are stiff,
but I am so contented and feel so loved".
What are you gonna do?
And, at the end of the journey,
along this road,
the rewards are so sweet!!
...Judy...

What a lovely road trip. And a perfect ending. Sweet.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Rita. It was just that!..Happy Summer Days..xxoJudy
DeleteThis post is totally filled with love. Every single bit of it. Enjoy the journey. And stay safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jeanie. It was and is and we are staying safe. No one in pie shop but the two owners, both masked. Sign on the door as you go in says "Only wear a mask if you are not vaccinated". I told her we are both vaccinated but still wear masks out and about..So that is the story of my life now and I don't object to it..Happy Summer Days..xxoJudy
DeleteOh Judy.. what a wonderful road trip! I loved Boot Hill! And your littles... of course they want to ride in the front with you guys! I've always loved to explore side roads and roads I've never been on. Around here in central Oregon, there aren't too many we haven't been on. When I lived up in Sandy, Oregon closer to Mt. Hood and the national forest, there were hundreds of side roads to explore and travel.. many ending up at some sweet nursery or a lumberjack's house full of his wood carvings, or glass blowers, or fruit stands in front of houses that had too many berries in their fields. It was also so mysterious to explore like that. I really miss it. Hope the fires stay away from your area this year... and ours too! xoxo Marilyn
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Marilyn. We have been over most of the little roads in our area but enjoy hitting them once again, especially when a sweet treat is at the end. You have to love the doggies and pay attention to their needs, because they NEED to be with us ALL the time! I sure hope that the fire season isn't as bad as it has been in the past. We had a small fire close by town last weekend but it was put out quickly. Not much damaage. I really hate those. Stay cool and enjoy Summer..xxoJudy
ReplyDeleteoh how wonderful just to get on the road for a little r and r. Have a wonderful July 4th, Judy!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Debra. It was a wonderful day. Nothing special but just good to get out..Happy Summer Days..xxoJudy
DeleteJudy, your posts are just the best! I felt as if I was on that drive. And the sweet ending makes me want to bake a peach cobbler or pie.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sarah. It was a sweet drive and thankfully, we can keep cool in the car. Nothing like a peach dessert in the summer time. This pie is always wonderful. It still is a little early for fresh peaches but these were frozen from last year but they still taste fresh and the crust is to die for..Happy Summer Days..xxoJudy
DeleteOh my gosh Judy it is so nice to take those road trips again. Yours is a beautiful journey. Lover your fur babies coming along too. Buddy loves to ride in the car with us and I am so grateful that he is so good for car trips. Let's hope those fires stay away. That peach pie looks so great. Terry and I took a road trip for just the day today and it was so great. I felt a little better and it was nice to at least go for the day to Michigan. Two hour drive to my fave area and shops and lunch and then back home. Just enough to have a nice day trip. Buddy liked it too. Happy Wednesday. Have a great week. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kris. I think day trips are one of my favorites. Since we got rid of the motorhome, I don't like staying in motels, so one day on the road is wonderful. I hope you got some pretty new shopping items. You deserve something pretty and glad you are feeling better. We are lucky that our puppies all enjoy car rides. I would hate to leave them home as I know you would hate to leave little Buddy...Happy Summer Days..xxoJudy
DeleteThat is one contented dog sleeping on your lap. I swear he is smiling. So cute. Glad you had a good road trip. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. That little Robin is just happy to be with us. The trip was good and it was nice to get out for just a little while..Happy Summer Days..xxoJudy

DeleteOh that darling little sleepy face in your lap. How could you possibly say no! Haha!! Glad you were able to get on the road again.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kim. That little sleepy face is just as darling awake! She is a good little girl who doesn't have to be told no very often! It was great to be out and about even for a little while..Happy Summer Days..xxoJudy
DeleteJudy,
ReplyDeleteOMG! How sweet those fur babies are!!!!
Glad to hear you are out and about..... It has been too hot the last few days to even leave the house...Broke records here in NEPA with high's ranging from 94-97 degrees on top of humidity and dew points in the 70's which are tropical!!! I still want to know when did NEPA become tropical!!!! Happy July 4th to you and your family.....I just posted 2 patriotic tablescapes that I "play" with , if you are interested!!
Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
Hugs,
Deb
Thanks so much, Deb. It was a good, short trip and then, good to get back homw. Whoa, it is hot all over, I guess, too hot for me! We have been all week in the 90's but with not humidity to speak of. It is the humidity that would be hard to deal with for me, I think. Happy July 4th to you also, and I will be by shortly to see what you are playing with..Happy Summer Days..xxoJudy
