We are celebrating Thanksgiving
a little differently this year.
If everything goes as planned,
the kids are coming up to the Cottage.
Now that everyone, except the old folks, are working and having different days off,
we will be celebrating on November 21.
They will come in the morning
and will have to go back home after dinner,
but that is okay, no matter when or where,
we are thankful for
excited to meet little Bean
for the first time
and to celebrate Jake's birthday also.
Our baby grandson
who magically just turned 28 years old.
I didn't want to start
decorating for Christmas
and have all the fall things put away
so I decided to have a little of both.
There will be a bit of Christmas
mixed in with remaining
pumpkins and autumn leaves,
a transitional moment.
our fall colors last week
I thought they were just about through.
But, lo and behold,
this beauty outside our sitting room window
decided to show up.
I couldn't wait to decorate
the top of the old cupboard,
so here is a sneak peek.
This is, also, as far as I can think of anything to write about
so thought it might be fun
to show a few of my favorites
since I have been blogging.
Hope you will enjoy the look back...
...but before we dive into
the time machine,
here is an update on Kai.
We have been giving him his
4 dose of insulin for a few weeks now.
Last Thursday,
he had a follow up appointment
and he is up to where he should be.
We will continue with the 4
and he won't have to be
checked again for six months.
Vet says we are doing something right
as a lot of dogs don't respond so quickly.
Don't know what that is except
that he gets his shots
every 12 hours, without fail,
and is on new food
made especially for diabetic dogs.
That is all, but it seems to be working.
He feels good
and acts more like a young dog
than a 13 year old.
We are grateful that
so far it is going so well.
It must help that he is cooperative also.
He knows what the word "juice" is
and comes running to his "appointments"!
So, now on to Christmas Pasts...
I can't get enough of your sweet home Judy. It is such a treasure. Enjoy your family on Thanksgiving! I am curious, how many square feet is your home? I love that open area with the divided light doors!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your kind words. We are excited about the kids coming up. It will be a fast day but we will take all the enjoyment out of it that we can. The Cottage is around 1600 sq ft. The ceilings are high and there are 3 bedrooms (one is the library) and 2 baths. Someday when I figure out how to do it, I should take a video from room to room and show you. There is no central hall so you just get to one room through another. Those french doors divide the front parlor and the back parlor (sitting room). They are really the main reason why we bought the house..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteOh Judy I love every year!!! So many trees! Love the one that has all the rain (yes, we called it rain when I was a child as we lived in the rainy portland area!)... but it's also called tinsel and icicles I think? I just want to look at each room and take it all in.. and get some ideas for decorating. It reminds me of how my mom decorated for Christmas. Every nook and cranny and shelf and tabletop was covered with some sort of decoration, also things hanging and things on the walls! I'm amazed at where/how she stored it all, as they only had a small "storage closet" upstairs in the hallway, which was maybe 5 feet side by 10 feet deep.. no garage or attic or "storage room".... but somehow she managed to get all of her holiday decorations in there.... well, maybe she did use an upper shelf of one of the bedroom closets. I can imagine your kids and grands LOVE coming to mom/grandma's house for the holidays. I always did when we went to mom and dad's for the different holidays, especially Christmas. I'm glad everyone will be there for Thanksgiving. Take care and don't work so hard! xoxo Marilyn
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Marilyn. Hope you are feeling better. Thanks for all your kind words. The "rain" was one thing my mom loved and I always helped her. It HAD to be put on one strand at a time and I loved it all but my kids hated to do it and always complained when I wanted to put tinsel on the tree so I didn't do it when they were young. I have done a few trees with it but, guess the older I get, maybe I don't have the patience for the one strand so I would find myself just throwing it on at the last, so I havent done it for awhile. I have stuff stored in every room, wherever I can find room. It is too much and I do think I'm getting better until I'm through and than even I can see it is a lot. But it isn't hard work for me as I love to do it..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteI loved every photo! Your trees -- wow! They knock my socks off! No wonder you need to start a little early because just doing the tree alone would take a long while -- and time very well spent! But the best news is that Kai is doing well. That's always such a worry. And I'm glad you'll all be together. Our TG with the kids will be the Friday after. That works too. Happy week!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jeanie. I appreciate all your kind words. It does take awhile but I really love to do it and plan in my head all year long. We are so glad that Kai is doing well so far. The vet says she has patients with the disease that last a long time. He does get a little more grumpy than he did at first, but forgets right after and can't wait for his treat. We are looking forward to the kids coming and I don't think it matters when as much as how..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteI agree with the others. The trees are so spectacular.
ReplyDeleteYou're home is so beautiful any time of year but
Christmas is amazing.
Thanks you so much, Renate. I really appreciate your kind words. It's funny, decorating the tree is my least liked Christmas experience. I always want to do it and have it look pretty, but I don't really like doing it! I think all of the trees that you saw this time, with the exception of the white one, were real trees with the old non-energy efficient lights and I love them so much better. The tree we have now is faux and I don't mind that at all, I just don't like those LED lights..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteSimply magical!
ReplyDeleteJudy, you have a real talent for making your home look inviting and feel magical, especially for Christmas!
How wonderful that you will spend Thanksgiving with your family; I'm very happy for you, and you must be so excited to see that 'baby' grandson of yours :)
Happy for you that Kai is responding well to his treatment, and isn't being a difficult patient for you :)
Have a lovely rest of your week, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful pictures.
~K.
Thanks so much, Kerin. I am so glad the kids are coming even for a short time, we will enjoy it a lot. Kai is doing so well although he is starting to show a little more "grumpiness" than he did at first. He forgets the minute it is over though as he is excited for his treat. I hope he and Robin are good when their little "cousin" shows up..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteIt is so much fun to look at our decor from the past. Your home always is so pretty for Christmas. So happy Kai is doing so well. He is so loved by you that he wants to keep feeling better everyday. He is adjusting so well on the insulin and diet. Yay for Kai! Looking forward to seeing more of your Christmas magic. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kris. I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for your kind words. Kai really is doing well even if he is a little more grumpy now but loves his "after" treat so he forgets how distastful it was.He is loved and I hope he and Robin enjoy meeting their new little "cousin next Sunday..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteHow simply lovely. With Thanksgiving so late---we will be in a bit of a rush! Just trying to enjoy each moment as it comes. Your photos are all lovely---and something so comforting about warm lights and a bit of snow with red and green. Hugs, Sandi
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sandi. I am trying to enjoy each and every moment too. By looking back I think that helps me to calm myself. I can't wait for the new dose of all those candles and the twinkle lights! A bit of snow would be nice..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteLoved looking back on all your past Christmas decorating. When you decorate, you surely go all out. So beautiful. My favorite season is fall and I just loved that pumpkin garland. That's something I would definitely order as well. So happy Kai is responding well to his shots. He's loved also so that's another reason why he's doing so well. I bet he's excited to meet Bean.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all your kind words and thoughts. Yes, Kai is loved and I am anxious to see how he and Robin react to their new little "cousin"..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteLove looking back on these beautiful settings. Happy you shared, Judy. I'm still in autumn mode. Not a clue what I'll be motivated to do for Christmas, but it will be limited.
ReplyDeleteI'm not rushing into Christmas decor. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks so much, Sarah. When you are ready I know it will be spectacular what you do. It always is..Happy Thanksgiving to you also..xxoJudy
DeleteHi Judy! Your house always looks so especially warm and inviting during Christmas, so the look down memory lane was wonderful. I hope you and your family enjoy your Thanksgiving this coming weekend. Always a blessing whenever you can all be together. Jane
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jane. No, it doesn't matter when we get together it is always such a great time. I'm glad you enjoyed the look back and I can't wait to see how Christmas comes along in your beautiful new home..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteJudy, I almost forgot to comment, since I was scrolling up and back to see your Christmas photos so many times. Oh. I could sit here all day looking at your decor. I don't know if I love the tinsel covered tree, the rocking horse on the table or the music note banner more. You know what, I'll go back and look again and then maybe I'll decide!! xxoo Kim
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kim. You are so funny! I'm glad you liked it all It is fun for me to look back because even though I try to change things up a little differently from one year to the next, I always find something that I put away and kind of forgot about. You can go back as many times as you please. It is allowed..Happy Thursday, my friend..xxoJudy
DeleteOh there is so much JOY in your posts, first, love your memory lane, so much hard work to make your house so festive! excited for your family reunion, it sounds like very fun times ahead for you. Glad your pup is doing well, I had 4 diabetic cats and I know the dedication it takes to make their lives easier. I guess I will be wishing you a merry Christmas before Thanksgiving, so happy that you will see your family soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jain. We did have a wonderful time with the kids and are looking forward to spending time together at Christmas. Kai is doing well but not as happy about shots as before. The minute I hold his scruff, he pushed his head back and it makes it a little harder but we persevere..Happy Thanksgiving to you my friend..xxoJudy
DeleteAlways so much fun to look back at posts. Memory lane is the very best! How sweet to have the family reunion. So glad your sweet fur baby is doing well. We always worry and sometimes they get the same ailments as people. Dante is on seizure meds, but doing well. Happy Thanksgiving Judy. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Linda. Where would we be without our memories, right? We had a wonderful time with the kids. I'm glad to hear that Dante is doing well. Kai is complaining a little more about getting his shots but we will make it through..Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, my friend..xxoJudy
DeleteYou have always done picture book decorating. So festive and pretty! We have had quite a few creative Thanksiving dinners too. Just so happy to have family whenver we can. Happy Tanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jacqueline. We had a wonderful time with the kids, both two and four legged! It is so nice to be able to get together again without the worries of the last couple of years..Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, my friend..xxoJudy

DeleteI love seeing your wonderful Christmas decor thru the years. Oh and that adorable turkey cross stich pillow, Hope you're having a great Thanksgiving gathering. xoxo.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Debra. Isn't that a sweet little pillow. I have picked up a number of those smaller pillows over the years and I really love them. We had a wonderful time with the kids and I hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, my friend..xxoJudy
