GRATEFUL GATHERINGS...

The year is winding down.

Frost and rain have come and will, undoubtedly, come again

and the winter garden has settled in.

Our color came late this year

and almost before we could blink

 the much needed rains came

and it was gone in a flash.

This beautiful tree

 seemed to keep its foliage

 better than most.

I foraged in the garden

and managed to gather some of

 the remaining summer

 and turn it into a

 harvest vignette in the entry.

These green stems

have been showing up all over the garden

 in recent years

and, in summer,

they make a very

pretty and graceful arrangement...

...this fall, however,

they produced berries for the first time.

I have no idea where they came from,

 or what they are called,

 but they are quite striking

 in an autumn scheme.

I have had this little family for a long time.

  Every year, at harvest time,

they join in the festivities.

A combination of faux and real

come together to make up

 a pretty harvest gathering.

Big Bird got his shots.  You can too!

Last Wednesday we were scheduled to get our Covid booster shots.

 We started out with Moderna,

 and even though we knew

that we could mix and match,

we wanted to stick with Moderna.

Our local CVS pharmacy

only was giving Pfizer

so we went to Auburn to get the shots.

When we arrived at our scheduled time,

we were told that we couldn't get the shots as they didn't have enough

 personnel to handle them.

We came back home and made

 another appointment for today.

Again we will drive to Auburn

but this time going to another CVS location.

 Here is the kicker!

 This CVS is inside Target.

OMG, I love Target

and haven't been to one in about two years.

So it turned out to be

 a blessing in disguise

(for me - not so much for the Captain!)

I did make it to Home Goods

 for my birthday!

 Oh Happy Day!

I was concerned that the shelves

could be bare, but they weren't.

The only problem was that

they were full of merchandise

that didn't fit into my style.

I also think that the prices

are not as good as they once were.

 But, what isn't??

 The dish  section is always

 one of my most favorite,

but I could only find a couple of plates

that seemed to fit into what I like.

Most were too modern, too cartoonish.

I was worn out when I left the store.

A lot of dodging around

 people without masks.

I guess that is the way of life now.

 Who cares? Right?

 Enough of that,

 it was a beautiful day,

and I am glad I was able to go.

You may notice behind the little blue tree

a lot of what looks

 like a hoarder's heaven,

 but it is all about

a little change coming to the Cottage.

 Watch this space.

Remember this crazy cow picture?

Here is the opposite side.

Math isn't one of my strong suits,

so it took a bit of doing to get this done.

  I envisioned four stars

set in their own little spaces

but their proportions are a little wonky

 so the final result

sort of looks like a cross between

stars gone wrong and a game board.

 Hopefully my plan

for where it will end up

comes out a little better.

Have a wonderful week

and enjoy the beautiful autumn.

...Judy...

P.S.  The fall colors today
come courtesy of Nevada City, our neighboring town. What a beautiful and charming little village.

  1. How beautiful and striking that pic of the trees. The colors here in the midwest are so beautiful too. Glad you got out to Home Goods for your birthday. You know me and Home Goods but I too feel that prices are higher and inventory not the same as in the past years. I think Covid has changed so many things. Love all the pretty garden items and your faux mixture. Have a great week. xoxo Kris

    1. Thanks so much, Kris. The fall colors are so beautiful but really short lived around here it seems. We never get any rain until the leaves change and then they are all washed away. Prices are up for everything so I guess it will just take time..Happy Wednesday..xxooJudy

  2. Such pretty fall scenes! It seems to go by so quickly and we need to drink it all in while we can. Love your fall arrangements and little pilgrim family. The plates you found are lovely, too. It's fun to search for a little something new. Shopping is a little scary these days with people disregarding any health protocols. We get our booster shots next week - hopefully. We tried going out to dinner with friends a couple of weeks ago and I was so concerned because nobody was following any type of safety protocols. Won't try that again! It's home-cooked meals for me. Can't wait to see your Christmas decorating. Sending hugs xo K

    1. Thanks so much, Karen. I love the colors of fall but wish they would last a little longer. It was nice to get out to the store, but I wish it would get easier and more comfortable to do. We got our boosters yesterday and I did get another little bit of shopping done in Target. Shelves there were really bare. I didn't know if they had a rush on Christmas already or just lack of merchandise. The shot wasn't bad. My arm started hurting pretty much right after I got the shot and got a little worse during the night, but is better this morning and now other problems. Hubby didn't get any reaction at all..So glad to have it now. I am very anxious to start Christmas decorating..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  3. Oh, how lovely and creative. I have absolutely hit an empty needle in my creative brain this year. I didn't decorate for Halloween, Fall, not really---and I'm stymied whether I want to dig anything out. Such pretty photos...please see if you can identify those berries---because they could be poisonous for you or your animals. We had something weird grow in the yard a few years ago...and then found out it was caustic to skin, poisonous if ingested and even the roots were poison. It didn't look like that---but it did have berries in Fall.
Hugs, and I hope they are wonderful and you can have them every year. Hugs, Sandi

    1. Thanks so much, Sandi. I did think of that exact thing while I was picking them. I watched them carefully but even as they dried up the berries were strong on the stem so they didn't fall off but I took them out of the arrangement before they did. I will have to ask at the nursery. The leaves are really graceful but they dry up pretty fast..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  4. Oh wow that red tree is absolutely stunning! And the bouquet you made with the red and gold is so so pretty.. and love the little family gathered around it. I think your wood painting of the stars is just perfect... a little bit "prim" and love the colors.... I think it's great. I think Fall has finally come here too.... it has rained some so most tree leaves have fallen.. just a few days ago I still had alot of color on my quaking aspen and Sumac.... and even my geraniums and mums are still blooming! I'm enjoying it as long as I can. Glad you got to Home Goods and Target.. I like Target too.. there is one about 50 miles from me so I don't visit it very often. Take care and have a good week.... xoxoxo Marilyn

    1. Thanks so much, Marilyn. The beautiful colors really don't last as long as I would like them to. I'm glad you liked the paint project. I just couldn't figure the proportions correctly because the board wasn't square to begin with, but I love doing those quilt blocks. The only reason I got to go to Target was because of getting our booster. So glad we were able to do that and then a little shopping was nice too..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  5. Wow that last picture is beautiful. All that fall color! Not at all wonky, I think that star piece came out really nice. Glad you both were able to finally get your boosters. I'm sure you're both happy about that. Did you find any goodies in Target? Yes, even Big bird got his shots. I can think of another bird brain who needs to spend more time acting like a sitting senator and less time acting like a child. I'll just give you his initials; Ted Cruz. Oops, sorry, I just gave you his entire name. LOL Have a nice rest of your week.

    1. Thanks so much. Oops, I had no clue who you meant!! I didn't even think of the one whose initial you could not speak!! Him and a lot of others too, but Big Bird has big shoes to fill and with all their tiny bird brains (your words, not mine) it probably doesn't even register. So glad we got our booster shots, now feel a little more confident and I was able to pick up a couple of pillows and a tiny wreath. Target's shelves were really bare. I didn't know if there had been a run on Christmas already or if this is how it will be.. I'm glad you liked my wonky stars. I couldn't quite figure out how to make them right but had fun doing it..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  6. Oh, Judy! I love the fall colors around your home. I do miss those leaves, except having to rake them up, when we lived in upstate New York. We don't have many fall colors here in south Texas. Love always how you decorate your home and love how you've done your mirror! Hope you're having a great week and good luck with your shots. We got our boosters a few weeks ago and didn't have any side effects.

    1. Thanks so much, Shelia. The fall colors are so pretty but don't last too long as we always have a much needed rain storm that wipes them away. We did get our shots and a little shopping in Target at the same time. Two birds! I had tenderness at the site pretty much right away and it got a little worse during the night but is better this morning. Nothing else and hubby didn't get any bad effects..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  7. Lovely post Judy. Love the floral and the pilgrim. Sorry about your dilemma with the booster. We got our booster at Safeway. We stuck with Pifzer.
The weather is changing. So happy to get the rain. Target is a lovely store and I love that Auburn has one. Happy week. xoxo

  9. Your autumn decorating is beautiful. Very warm and inviting. I love the plates shown on the red woven napkin. Even the prices at Goodwill have gone up and not as much interesting stock. Can't wait to see what your new plan is!

    1. Thanks so much, Ellen. I'm glad you liked it. Those were the best plates I could find in my style. It was kind of disappointing. Everything is so expensive these days. There is always something to blame it on, I suppose Covid could be at fault but every year just at vacation time, the price of gas goes up. Who knows?..Happy Thanksgiving to you..xxoJudy

Now with some rain and wind, they are leaving their leaves fast!!Happy Birthday, my friend!! Yes, CVS is inside of Target as they bought out the Target Pharmacies....I got my shots there but I am not due for my booster until February....LOVE those plates!! Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!!

    1. Thanks so much, Deb. I didn't know that CVS bought out Target pharmacy. The booster shot was really an satisfactory experience. We are going to get a Target in town, K-Mart went out and they will fix up the store before they come in. It probably will take awhile to happen..Happy Sunday..xxoJudy

  11. Judy, I love, love, love your decorations for November and your sweet pilgrim family.
Ha ha... I sure chuckled when you mentioned going shopping at Target.
I haven't been to a Target in forever either...so I imagine I would go a little overboard buying all the things :
I adore your barn star quilt board !!
I have had the wood and the paint and the plans to make a few of those myself, but have yet to crack into that project.
Be sure to show us the finished projects :)

    Have a wonderful weekend.

    1. Thanks so much, Kerin. It is really good to hear from you. Hope you and family are all well. I have started to take some things down now, but the kids are coming for Thanksgiving so I need to leave some fall decorations in place. I am not very good at painting lately. I need to get my glasses changed and the lines are a little wonkly, but it is still fun and I love doing them..Happy Sunday..xxoJudy

  12. Judy, I'm glad you were finally able to get out and shop!! SO fun to see what's on the shelves, isn't it? I actually love the red barn stars. I think they're fabulous folk art and look perfectly primitive and rustic...and red! ♥️ You're very talented and always inspire me. xxoo

    1. Thanks so much, Kim. It was fun to go shopping, but be glad when things get more plentiful. There is a woman on TV that paints. She is more of an impressionist and it is beautiful and she makes it look so easy, but I find that I must be a perfectionist or something because I have to make it perfect or I am not happy. The stars are not lifelike and that bothers me, but when I look at it like you said as being primitive or folk art, now that makes me happy. I can always count on you, my friend..xxoJudy

    1. Thanks so much, Row. The vaccinations went fine and I am glad I waited to get the same one again. I did get a sore arm and was a little tired the next day but that was all. I am wanting to decorate for Christmas but am not wanting to take all the fall down yet..They don't mind being mixed!..Happy Sunday..xxoJudy

  14. It seems like dishes have all kinds of trends, too, and this is the "cutest and kitchsy" year. But at least you did GET to Home Goods -- and Target too! I still haven't hit Home Goods -- and it's really close to my house. But I will. I just don't need anything, only I seem to forget that whenever I go there! Your home is beautiful and your color may have been late but it came in with a bang and a flourish!

  16. Your fall trees are beautiful, still have color around me, its wanning but new varieties are succumbing and I'm delighted! Driving into auburn is a blast of gold every which way I glance. I agree with you about homegoods, its lost its uniqueness, and pricier, not to mention very few dishes! we got our booster 3 days ago, my arm is still sore, don't remember if it was before but makes gardening extra tough thus week. All your fall decor is lovely, shall I say merry Christmas?!
