PLAIN OLD SPRING FEVER...

A simple Easter display in the entry.

This has been a lost week.

 A lot of TV watching,

a lot of looking out the windows

at all the sunshine,

 a lot of dreaming,

and a lot of setting up appointments.

The Captain served in the Navy way back between 1957 and 1961.

He was always told that he was not eligible for veteran's benefits during that time

so he just assumed that was true.

 He has since found out

 that wasn't the case

so now he is taking advantage of

what is due him.

 He was onboard a ship

where drills were practiced

and he started losing his hearing

sometime after that.

He is very lucky that he has remained otherwise healthy since then

and has never had

 to take many medications.

In the last few months he has applied for VA services and has been approved.

We have to drive a ways to take advantage of these services but it is

worth the time it takes.

During last week we have made two trips

and he has a appointment

for early May with an ENT doc,

which is required

before he can get hearing aids.

It seems that most of our time is taken up with planning

and going to these appointments,

so I haven't done much more in the way

of having anything interesting to show.

Another simple display on the parlor mantel. After seeing this photo, a few of the dried hydrangeas should be removed.  The arrangement looks too heavy and should be scaled down but I ran out of time.

If I had it all to do over again,

I would decorate the Cottage with nothing but what I have come up with here.

 The old ironstone pitcher

 that belonged to my great-grandmother,

a chipped picture frame
all mixed in with gold and the
color of nature stripped of its brightness.

 Color has always been

a part of what I love,

but there is something to be said for an easy place to rest your eyes.

I find these days that I need some of that.

I ordered this string of ornaments

around last Christmas

but did not receive them

in time for decorating.

I included them in this arrangement

as I thought the color

reminds me a bit of Easter...

...they look like pretty glass ornaments

but are only plastic

but they have an

old world classic appeal to them.

I moved the old books

from the parlor mantel

 to the library table.

I painted one of the camellias
 blooming in the garden...

...this is not exactly what it looked like

but it is my best version...

This flower was part

 of an anniversary arrangement

we received

and I had taken a photo of...

 ...after tracing around it,

 I again painted my version.

We received a nursery catalog

from Green Acres Nursery.

 Something about the cover shot

 caught my attention

and my version follows.

This is the first painting I have done where it was drawn free hand.

We are still waiting for them to come finish the blacktop on the driveway

but the process has gotten us thinking

about what we are planning for the

front garden this summer.

We are dreaming up plans so we won't have so much watering to do.

It won't be a big change

but enough to make it

 a little more low maintenance.

We had our second booster shot

 for Covid yesterday.

Our counts here have gone down a lot

but we still need to be careful

and getting all the vaccinations offered

and wearing masks out in public

is something that we are happy to do.

Hope everything is going well for all of you and that you are enjoying everything spring has to offer.

...Judy...

Spring is really here

 and before long

the lilac , as seen from the kitchen window,

will make a lovely bouquet.

  1. All so lovely! So glad you got the help from the VA. I know how challenging it can be - but definitely well worth it for so many including all of us boomers and seniors and our parents. :)

    1. Thanks so much, Kaye. We are so lucky that this is offered. My hubby has paid for two sets of hearing aids and we just can't afford another. We have all heard the horror stories about the VA but we have found nothing but kindness and support. So far he has been taken good care of..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy

  2. So nice that you are able to get your VA benefits!
Better late than never, I suppose.
My sweet friend has been told that she doesn't qualify either, but she will be persistent and hopefully she will too have those benefits to help her out.
Love your sweet arrangement and I agree, the ornaments do have spring~ish coloring to them.
Sending good luck wishes for the black top to be completed soon.

    Smiles :)

    1. Thanks so much, Kerin. Yes, better late than never. I think all who serve should be eligible, no matter active duty or not. In Jerry's case he was stationed in Hawaii and was on standby for the Korean conflict. I hope your friend finds out she is qualified. We have heard all the horror stories about the VA but he is finding nothing but support and good care..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy

  3. Love all your decor Judy and the bunny smelling the flowers is adorable. Glad your hubby is getting the benefits he deserves. It is amazing what kind of benefits they get and you get too being married to him. My mom got some good benefits from my dad being in the Korean war and a veteran. Happy New Week. xoxo Kris

    1. Thanks so much, Kris. I'm glad I have mentioned his service as I am getting lots of good advice. My BIL served in VietNam and has good benefits but he told us that my SIL (his wife) is not eligible. Maybe he just hasn't looked into it but that is something we will check out..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy

  4. Your painting is fabulous and as much as I like the flowers, I like the blueberries best! Well done! It's a shame that there aren't more Veterans providers better spaced geographically. It sounds like you are in the boat as my friend's brother -- they have to drive all over the state for different providers. But at least it is funded and that's a huge relief.

I'm crushing on those mantel bunnies. They're wonderful and the mantel looks beautiful.

It's late to do the day-by-day workshops but if you google sketchbook revival 2022, there is a series of about 25 or so video workshops, free, that related to painting, collage, mixed media, all sorts of things. I've done several to help jumpstart me and I'm enjoying them. The videos are available to April 18 if you sign up now.

    1. Thanks so much, Jeanie. It is getting a little easier, I think, and then I try something else and it isn't! To keep trying is the main thing and thanks for the recommendations. I will check them out. We have found the VA easy to work with so far and have been happy with all that is offered. They must be so busy though and it is hard to get appointments in a timely manner. We are just taking it one day at a time..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy

    1. Thanks so much. I love that particular bunny too. We are so lucky to take advantage of the services. They are so busy that the wait times for appointments is pretty long, but that is the only complaint we have about it all..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy

  7. Oh Judy those dancing bunnies really brought a smile to my face! I like those muted beiges, white and golds.. very pretty! Your painting too, are really really nice. You are very artistic, in many ways! I hope you and your husband are getting the VA medical insurance as it is really good coverage. My best friend's husband was in Vietnam war for 4 years.. and he and his wife both get that insurance.... and also he has a good retirement from it also. He did continue to serve in the reserves for a good 20 years too I think. It is nice and warm(ish) here today.. well if 60 degrees is warm! It IS warm for here as the nights are still in the low 20's.. so spring is yet to spring... I did see a yellow bush blooming the other day.. that's the only sign here of flowers.. I think it was a Forsythia. Oh.. and daffodils are blooming around here also. I'll take anything I can get! I would like to think of some ways too, for making the yard less work intensive and not have to water so much. I would have to figure out making some sort of dripi system on my own.. which I could probably do (if I wanted to).... but I don't really want to! I need a gardener to take care of all my outdoor projects! For now.. I'm still happy mostly staying inside and doing my paper crafting! Take care... Marilyn

    1. Thanks so much, Marilyn. I love that chorus line of bunnies. I got it a few years ago at Tuesday Mornings. I look at that set up on the mantel and can see white shiplap around it all. Too late now but it sure would be nice. Some say that look is going out, but I don't care, I love the farmhouse look. We have got a basic plan for the garden but nothing set in stone yet. The neighbor is splitting the cost of taking out three trees in the back that were storm damaged. My ivy and wisteria have grown up into the trees so we have to trim that down or else the whole yard will got out with the trees. Like you, I am more happy just staying in the house doing fun stuff!..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy

  8. You have been very busy, as usual! I have been living outdoors, working like a mad woman in my garden, would love for you to visit if you care to meet Linda and I one day. Right now my iris garden is just beginning, with the heat this week it will speed things up, but with the drought they are very puny... my roses put on a fabulous display, that should be pretty soon, maybe tea in the rose garden one day soon? let me know your thoughts :-)

    1. Thanks so much, Jain. What a lovely thought to have tea in your rose garden. I can only imagine how beautiful it all is. I can't make any extra plans for awhile until my hubby gets his VA appointments taken care. They have such a backlog that some take quite a long time but they will get him in if they have an cancellation, so we are trying to keep everything open to get it all done.. Happy Weekend..xxoJudy

  11. Hi Judy! I am always surprised at how the U.S. treats veterans and how difficult getting services can be. It seems there is always money around for the most outrageous of things, but so little for the men & women who serve/served our country. Your paintings are just beautiful - so talented! I agree with enjoying the occasional place to rest your eyes in decor. Some days we just need quiet. Happy weekend to you! Jane

    1. Thanks so much, Jane. Although getting appointments in a timely manner seems to be the thing, we have found that the VA is very thoughtful and courteous. So far, we have no complaints. To get the original hearing test was going to be well into May but there was a cancellation at another hospital so he was able to get right in..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy

  12. Hi Judy, I hope your hubby gets into the Va soon. Not sure why it takes so long. Your paintings are amazing, you truly have a gift. Love your sweet bunnies. I do hope we can meet up with Jain for tea in the rose garden. It is breath taking. I shall be featuring your lovely post. xoxo

    1. Thanks so much, Linda. So far we have no complaints about the VA. When Jerry went for his first appointment to get his picture taken for his card, I sat in the car and couldn't believe the amount of people coming and going so I guess that would explain the longer waits for appointments. They are just overloaded. I talked to Jain about the lovely invitation and I can only imagine how beautiful it is but I just can't make any plans until Jerry gets taken care of. We never know when they will call..Thanks so much for the feature, that is always special to me to receive one..Happy Sunday..xxoJudy

  13. Hi Judy, your Easter decorations are just right - soft and pretty. I love your paintings - you are very artistic! You will have to make a gallery wall to show them all off. I am glad that your hubby is getting the services he deserves. Both my daughter and my son-in-law work as claims processors for the VA and they say it is worth doing some research to see what benefits he is entitled to. The VA is happy to help! You just need to ask. I hope you have a lovely Easter, my dear. Hugs xo Karen
