A PINK TEA

Sandi is holding a tea to celebrate the fact that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

I hope you will all visit to see what beautiful parties are going on over at Rose Chintz Cottage

Did you know that every three minutes someone will be diagnosed with breast cancer?

The little Angel of Hope reminds us to all work together to try and put an end to this terrible disease.  Early detection is the best prevention at this time.

I am adding these beautiful flowers that the Captain and I received for our 53rd wedding anniversary last week from Tim, Tami and Jake.

They are so lovely and our kids are so thoughtful.

Thank you, Sandi, for letting all of us pay our respects to honor those who have lost their lives to cancer, survived cancer, and anyone who is going through cancer at this time.

Also, I would like to offer Happy Thanksgiving wishes to our neighbors and friends in Canada.

A HALLOWEEN PARTY

Here is the next part of last year's
           Halloween posts. Enjoy!!

          AN INVITATION TO A PARTY....

The witches and the goblins,

The ghosts all dressed in white,

They all will be converging,
On the Cottage, come tonight.

They arrive upon their broomsticks,

They arrive by other means,

Some arrive so very quiet,
Some arrive amidst the screams.

A single fairy pumpkin witch,
Will try to set the tone,
But when it comes to game rules,
Everyone is on their own.

Once they are assembled,

That's when the fun will start,

You wouldn't want to join them,

If you were one bit faint of heart.

You are all invited,
Join the party..have some fun,

Nobody is excluded,
It's fair game for everyone.

It's strange how it all happens,
Just ask one whose mostly sweet,
Once you're a member of the party,
No one would pass you on the street.

If you are brave enough to enter,
Then you must be quite prepared,
For the ones who are the strongest,
Will survive those who are scared.

When we sit at the table,
And say, "Good potatoes, won't you pass",
They are eating eye of newt,
And tiny spiders under glass.

The pumpkins and the candles,
Are alight for all to see,

This is quite a different story,

The moon is shining brightly,
Look closer...see the bats?
They are coming to the party,
You'll want your necks kept under wraps.

Mrs.vonRichWitch was invited,
She thought the party would be fun,
She didn't know that when she left,
Her two hands would be one.

Now the dawn is breaking,
The air is still and cold,
All the guests have left the party,
And the story has been told.

THE FRAIDY CAT...

Between now and Halloween, I am going to repeat some of my posts from last year. I had quite a few comments, probably the most I've ever gotten in almost two years, and I thought that maybe some of my newer followers would like to see them. If you are not among this group, I hope you enjoy them again, or you might just want to press a little button and send them on their way.  That is the beauty of blogging.

Here is some background on why I wrote the following:

Maggie has been a member of our household for about 12 years. She had been abandoned, at the age of about 6 months, with a litter of kittens, and she was living under the school house. The Captain took her to the vet and she had probably the first shots she had ever had and was spayed at that same time. He also took the one surviving kitten for shots and spaying but she was so wild that we took her back to school, where she remains to this day. Maggie has never really recovered from the trauma of mistreatment and it has only been about one year since she has felt comfortable enough to sit by us on the couch. She still will not sit on our laps or allow herself to be held. So I wrote this little piece to say how I think she must feel.

I am not a fraidy cat
Though I sit behind the door
I could go outside at night
If I wanted something more...

If I were to put my hat on
And gather up my nerve
I could wander through the darkness
Right down to the last curve...

But why would I want to do that
When all I would do is hide
I'll just sit here, bravely, at the door
And wear my hat inside.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

I will be posting some old Halloween posts every few days and will add some new ones also. I hope you enjoy!

A WELCOME...A WALK...A THANK YOU...

WELCOME OCTOBER

I would also like to welcome my newest followers and all those who leave the nicest comments I could hope for.

I always try to respond in kind but if I miss anyone, I hope you will let me know as that certainly is not my intention.

I would also like to welcome our fur-granddaughter, Rosemary.

Tami and Tim fostered little Rosie for some time and now have adopted her.  She is certainly a sweet addition to the family.

Tami and I participated together in our tenth year of the San Francisco Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.  Some of you may not know that my daughter is a breast cancer survivor.  She was diagnosed ten years ago, at the age of 42, and is strong and healthy today.

On the first day of the walk she crossed the finish line - first out of a field of 1600.

I don't tell you this to brag.  I only mention it because I will never forget the terrible feelings of her getting that call from the doctor with her nine year old son, sitting on her lap.

I am so grateful that time seems so far away now and this is where she is today.  Well, maybe there is a small amount of bragging involved!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Please make an appointment for a mammogram if you haven't already done so.

I don't walk, I work the crew, and it is such a rewarding experience.

We had beautiful weather and it was a fun filled busy weekend.

Last, but most certainly not least, I would like to thank you all for your many wonderful and kind thoughts about the passing of our nephew, Todd.

He was a remarkable young man and we will miss him terribly forever.

I have passed on all your caring comments, from both facebook and my blog post, to my family and they are deeply moved and appreciative.

Thank you all again so much.

You are such a caring community and I feel so fortunate to be a part of it.

I would also like to thank Cindy at Dwellings-The Heart of Your Home, and Kathy at A Delightsome Life for including me as one of their features last week.  I appreciate it so much and am so honored to be along side the other talented ladies.
