IN SUMMER DRESS....

"Nature can do without man, but man cannot do without nature."

Things are starting to change in the garden.
We've had some very hot, sunny days, a little rain, and nature is beginning to put on her summer dress.

  6. The capture of the Canary getting a drink is great. Such pretty lavender, I bet the air is scented with it. Miss Maggie knows where to keep cool, I am with her. It has been miserable here in the heat, can't stay out long before the heat gets me.
    Summer is definitely here.

  13. Hi Judy, I enjoyed seeing your beautiful flowers, butterflies and bees, oh yes, and Miss Maggie. I'm no expert but your mystery flowers look like summer phlox. We have had them in pink, lavender and white. They thrive in hot weather which means they would be doing great here because the temperature has been around ninety and slightly above this week with no rain. The herbs in my container garden look like they are suffering. I water them but the air is so hot it just cooks them. That last photo you showed looks like a beautiful place to be in the summertime. Have a great second day of summer! -------------------- Shannon

  14. My my you have lots going on here on the first day of summer! your lavender is beautiful! I like the look of bind weed too. But we have to tear it out like crazy. It overtakes everything. It does remind me of an old Tom and Jerry cartoon. The mouse used to wear a bloom for a hat! (Maybe it was a morning glory!) Speaking of--I like your shot of the hats together. i haven't heard goldfinches actually called wild canary's except in books. They are my FAV. Loved the garden tour!

  27. Hi Judy - lovely photos of your garden and your home and surroundings. What great lavendar you have. I had a nice bunch frowing - and part of it died for some reason...but it's still perking along. I have to plant some more. My hydrangeas have blossomed - and they are doing great (despite the fact that some were purchased in a grocery store - which experts say will never flower the following years vecuase they were forced blooms. I trusted and planted anyway - it took a few years but they are doing wonderfully.

Could that mystery plant be a cousin of the cleome? The top portion looks a bit like it...but not the rest. I hope that you find out what it is?

Thanks so much for your nice comments on my blog!!

  42. ...fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high....:-)
Love your pictures...esp. the little bird drinking, the fairy with the never never land fog about her, straw hats 'at the ready,' hydrangeas, what would a cottage garden be without lavender, the intimate room, and what I always thought were wild morning glories (not weeds!). That was such a cute comment about the mouse's hat from Tom and Jerry.

I saw similarities in the leaves and blooms of your mystery plant to that vine Charlie and I had in Scotts Valley at the front porch opening. They were prolific in Spring, I think, a soft pink with no fragrance so more like a potato vine. I use to know the name. But it didn't look a thing like your close-up before it bloomed. Could your local nursery ID it? But it's more fun to get people guessing.

Well, enjoy your 'sweet tea' time on the porch...

  43. Wow! Look at all those "First Day's of Summer" photo's..I love them all..but, Miss Maggie is a favorite along with that pretty little fairy and OHHHH! the Lavender..so lovely! May we all have a wonderful beautiful, safe summer..

  44. What a beautiful garden. I don't have a green thumb like my mama did. She bought a greenhouse and although it was small, she green alot of plants in there, repotted and had them all ready when Spring arrived. My yard is hard packed with dirt, is on an incline and will not hold the water, and my husband runs over the flowers I do plant with the mower. So there you go. I'll stick to the inside small projects of flowers from Walmart:)

I have had lots of guests and been away a bit so I have taken a bit of a blogging break and just beginning to catch up now. I hope to post again next week unless I still have guests.
