WELCOME, CHRISTMAS...

Wasn't he a beauty...and delicious too!

Thank you, Tim, Tami and Jake for a wonderful day...

The newest addition to the family.

...and thank you, Rosie, for doing your happy dance for us.

I hope you all had an amazing time with your families on Thanksgiving.

On a more serious note...Most of you know Diana.  She is such a champion for everyone in need and now she needs our help.

Her small grandson is having some health issues and she and her family need all of our good thoughts and prayers.  Please reach out to her as no little child needs to be in the hospital at Christmas.

****Update:  I just went on Diana's blog and they have finally diagnosed her grandson and he is being treated for Kawasaki disease and he is responding beautifully.  I still think she would want to hear from you and it is a remarkable story that you won't want to miss.

Coffee mugs from The Dollar Tree

If you need a pick-me-up interval while getting ready for the holidays, a beautiful Christmas is going on over at Bella's Rose Cottage where you will see one of the prettiest blogs around and also get the recipe for these delicious scones.  I have never tasted better and so easy to make.

Thank you, Bella, for sharing with us.

Now on to welcoming Christmas...

The door is opening on another small bit of Christmas at the Cottage.

Please...come in and look around.

The entry Christmas Angel bids you welcome, and a Merry Christmas, surrounded by holly and candlelight.

As you look back over your shoulder while entering the guest room...

Wreath and tree are simply cone and round wreath forms wrapped in feather boas.

Traditional Christmas colors are no where to be seen in the guest room...Pink is the color of Christmas in here.

The mantle is festooned with a garland of roses and paper doilies.  A pink tree and wreath beside an old-world Santa, books, vintage trees, an antique plate and cottage candle are interspersed with sprigs of faux pine.

A tiny tree tucked in the corner...

...and the Teddies, and Maggie, of course, are welcoming all guests to a warm and cozy night's stay.

A small collection of vintage wax carolers.

Come in from the cold and plan for some sweet dreams.

Across the hall from the guest room you will find the parlor.  It still is in a state of disarray, so I'm regretful I can't show you more but the mantle had to be dressed for Christmas...otherwise Santa wouldn't visit!

Silver tray and ornaments..thrift stores.
Chalk ware Santa part of a collection of Santa's.
Hat boxes I painted and stenciled a few years ago.

Here you will find sparkle, light and nature in a mix of traditional Christmas colors.

I've shown you parts of the library's Christmas finery.  Here it is all put together.

We switched out this chair that was in the parlor.  I removed the skirt to show the pretty carved legs and also to make it appear more masculine.  I may eventually slip-cover or paint the upholstery but the Captain is liking it for now.

We moved the wagon out of the sitting room as changes will be coming there in the future.
The doll house I bought at a garage sale last year. Still haven't painted it yet but is on the bucket list!

Book press belonged to my great-grandfather.
Tin finial from Home Goods.

Don't ask me why but I am in love with this little white truck.
It is the favorite decoration this year by far.

That's where we are for now.  One or two more little things we are working on...and will show you in the next post.  But, before I go I have to say....

On December 4, 1993, our daughter and son-in-law gave us the best gift ever...

We were so proud of you as a little boy...
and now, 20 years later...

We are even more proud of the young man you have become...

Happy Birthday, Jake

We love you to the moon..and back.

Grandpa and Grandma

P.S. Could anyone shed light on why I surround my pictures, out of Picasa, with grey frames, and some come out black?

  4. Your cottage is absolutely delicious!!! So pretty and cozy and festive. I love the fireplaces - the trees - the santas - the bears - oh I love it all.

I'm so happy the little one is getting a proper treatment - may he be well and running around soon.

And your grandson - what a nice young man - and the photos are priceless.

Thanks for the tour - we are just beginning to decorate - I'm still battling this old cold/flu/cough - but I'll beat it yet.

  5. oh Picasa and frames, I had that happen to me once with the vignette setting, I was choosing white and it was using black. I think black is the default and I was choosing white but not waiting long enough for it to take. In short I was running fast and their sight was running slow, and I didn't wait for them to catch up, haha... hope that makes sense!
    Hugs....
