MATTERS OF THE HEART...

A few weeks ago
I told you about our daughter, Tami,
and how she had an issue
with her heart.

In case you missed the post,
you can read about it

After all was said and done,
we thought that was the end of it,
but that didn't seem to be the case,
 so here is an
update.

Tami's cardiologist
wanted to rule out
that there was any connection
between the heart episode and
her breast cancer diagnosis
of fourteen years ago,
so she ordered a CT scan
which took a week to get done
and showed spots on her liver.

 The doctor,
 along with orders from
Tami's oncologist,
set up an appointment for a MRI.

This took another week and a half
to get the results.

Tami had a MRI in 2005
and it showed cysts on her liver
at that time and
 since technology has
advanced considerably since then
they wanted to compare the two.

 That is the technical understanding
of the problem,
but what the machines don't show
is the
emotional side of
the equation.

"You are only as happy
as your least happy child.

  The umbilical cord,
 it transpires,
far from being severed at birth,
 continues the flow of emotions
 from mother to child
and back again,
 in perpetuity."

This was written by
 Olivia Lichtenstein,
 in September, 2015.

 Words from a mother,
referring to a situation
she was having
 with her daughter,
but words
that all mothers can
relate to.

When you don't have the answers,
your mind goes to a dark place.
 The less you know,
the darker the place,
and the waiting is almost unbearable.

 Tami went back to work,
and we all tried to bolster each other
 but, in the end,
I don't think anybody
 was fooling
anybody else.

We now feel so blessed.

 The tests were compared and
 found that the spots were,
indeed cysts,
 and had not changed
since the original MRI in 2005.

 The doctors also concluded
that the fluid found around the heart
(not blood)
was the result of the trauma
of the heart episode
 and will be watched by
her cardiologist.

I suppose
you have all heard the expression
 that the longer
a couple is together
they start looking alike.

  But, have you heard,
that they start feeling alike also?

 Both the Captain and I
came down with bad backs
(yes, me again!)
at the same time last week.

We are in the midst of
 cleaning up the garden and
had to bite the bullet and
hire someone
 to come and finish up.

 The Captain
has always had trouble,
 off and on,
due to an old football injury
when he was in high school.

 He finally has given up
walking the dogs at the shelter
as the trails are uneven and hilly
and put strain on his back and knees.

 It is something
that he loves to do and
it was not an easy decision
for him to make.
It also means
that I have to give up
 my car office
 and find another place
to write this blog,
which actually
will be pretty easy
 for me.

We were a few years out of school when these pics were taken. But, we did dress up like this for our 15th reunion.

Speaking of high school,
we have our 60th class reunion
 in September
and we are both trying hard
to get well.

  The last thing
we want
is to show up looking old!!
 Ha, ha,
 little late for that!

Fun and exciting things
are happening here
at the Cottage.

 Somewhere in there
 is a story to tell,
but that will have to wait
for
another day.

  2. Yay for the great news about your daughter; a mom's and a dad's heart do worry. As for the reunion and not looking old, remember everyone there is the same age :)

  3. What a terrible time, waiting for test results is so stressful especially when it is a loved one. No wonder you both are having trouble with your backs - I think stress and worry play an important part in our physical well being.

I am so pleased for you that your daughter is okay, she has already experienced enough and must be an extremely strong young women.

I hope you both feel better and are in fine shape for your reunion...old, heaven forbid!!!!

  4. Judy,
Once a Mother, always a Mother..no matter the age of your children. I am so happy to hear the the tests had positive results. Praying for continued blessings for your family. Bad Backs.... I know how that goes. Joe has already had 2 compression fractures from severe osteoporosis and has to receive the IV transfusion of medication yearly to prevent further demineralization of his bones. I was born with scoliosis and have 5 compression deformities in my back with arthritis and radiculopathy which causes my right foot to go numb and I fall.....So I hear you...... But unfortunately, old age does not come alone they say!!
Love the pictures of you and your honey!!
    Hugs,
    Deb

  7. I am so very happy that your daughter had good news. So sorry about Captain and your backs being out. I can relate to that. I have had to give up my gardening as my back kills me afterwards. The darn gardener isn't doing what I want him to do, so I will be looking for a new one soon. My garden is pitiful.

Enjoy your Class Reunion, oh what fun your going to have. Take lots of pictures.

Take care of your self's and have a great rest of the week.

    Hugs,
    Mary

  9. Scary stuff but such good news after all. Of course we hope to hear good news about your backs and that you are back to doing what you love soon.

  10. OH my dear one - that is definitely good news - great news!!! We went through a trauma with our oldest daughter and the waiting does seem endless - but our results were also good (after many nights of dark, dark thoughts). Take care and get those backs in spiffy shape for the reunion. We went to Don's 50th class reunion in Wisconsin 5 years ago - had the time of our lives. And he reconnected to so many friends there that he has lost touch with - his best friend from high school now lives in Oregon and they have gotten together since the reunion. Hope the rest of your week is fabulous!!!

  11. Praises are being sung that your daughter is well and OK and nothing has progressed to "worse". That is so true that we are only as happy as our unhappiest child. Sorry about both of your backs and not dog walking for The Captain.... I know with my bad back it causes problems when I walk on uneven ground alot.... but it's just not age.. it's from prior injuries unfortunately. I hope your week goes well and you both continue to improve in time for the reunion! I'm just so happy for your daughter (and you and her dad)!!! Hugs.. Marilyn

  12. How happy all of we blogger friends are to hear good news about your daughter. I pray she remains well.

I can tell you a lot about bad back. I never had an injury such as your husband but we never know when a few heavy lifting situations do wear and tear. I'm feeling terrible, yet I don't want to be on meds. I really hope a good exercise routine help.

    Hugs and much love,

  14. Oh so glad to hear it's all good news for Tami, Judy. I wouldn't be surprised if those bad backs were induced by stress. Hopefully you'll both be feeling super spry lickity split. ❤️

  16. I'm happy for your daughter's good news. Waiting to have those tests and for the results is horrible and seems to take forever. Take care of yourselves so you can enjoy your 60th reunion and maybe even dance to some great old songs. xx Pam

  18. So glad your daughter received a good report on the MRI. The quote you shared gave me a lump in my throat. So true. Thanks for visiting my blog to read AnnMarie's guest post on her niece's home. ~ Nancy

  19. I can't imagine the anxiety you felt going through that Judy, but I breathed a sign of relief when I read the cysts are simply that...just benign cysts.

Back problems are so difficult to deal with, especially if you want to stay active. Stretching can help, and consider massage balls. They may help a bit.

  20. I am so happy to hear of the great report on your daughter's MRI. She has a good doctor taking care of her. . I felt your heart sink in the first couple lines of your post. SO HAPPY to hear about the good report.
I know how you feel about having to bite the bullet and call someone in to do work that you normally would do yourself. We have had to do that and it's frustrating, but you can't hurt yourself more. I know you both had so much stress put on you with worry. Pamper yourselves now.

  21. Judy, I'm relieved to read that all is well concerning your daughter. I don't have children, but I can relate to the anxiety of not knowing. Happy to hear your good news, but not so happy to think of you and the Captain suffering from back pain. That's no fun at all. Get better soon!
