MARCHING ALONG...

HAPPY MARCH EVERYONE!

We have no more snow (so far)
but plenty of rain.
And, along with rain,
 always, always
 the gray skies
 return...

...these are what bother me
the most about winter.

If I was in control,
I would go to bed,
pull the covers over my head,
and not peek out
 until spring...

...something like this!

Even the birds
won't leave home without
the proper attire...
I'm just saying!

Oh well,
none of that is going to happen
 so I will just keep
 marching along.

St. Patrick's Day
is the closest thing to spring
that we have now,
so I thought I would
set up a table for two
in the sitting room.

Something close to the fire
that will put some cheer
into a winter's day.

 Of course,
green would be the obvious color choice
and give the table a
touch of the blarney!

 My grandmother's
maiden name was Kelly,
so I take a bit of pride
 in the wearing
of the green.

On my last trip to Home Goods,
 I picked up the cutest
 black and white ticking napkins,
so I rummaged around on the shelves
in the junk room
and came up with some
black and white dishes that matched
to use as a grounding color
 to all of the green.
 I was going to use
 a white tablecloth
but the colors didn't show off
 on the white.
They were turning out to be
more rustic in feel
 so I removed the cloth
 and used some
woven twig place mats.

Royal Stafford, England, from Home Goods

The Olde Curiousity Shop, picked up on a trip to San Diego at Goodwill

Dessert plate from Ikea

Queen's china from T. J. Maxx

I didn't have any
pretty fresh flowers
so I just used some faux greenery,
 green water tumblers
and a couple of pieces
of green china.

This little table setting
could very well transition
to Easter
with the addition of
some bunny objects.

For the time being,
it will be just fine
awaiting the arrival of
 the corned beef and cabbage
and the continuation of
 the march along
 to spring.

  4. Judy, I smile seeing these dishes. I had both of the black and white sets, but have passed them on to friends. I loved using them when they were here, but it was time for others to enjoy them. And I grew up eating off the green Ole Curiosity Shoppe pattern. One of my nieces has the set now. I love that she wanted them, appreciates these vintage dishes and enjoys using them.

  7. Yes... March this year IS gray and pretty dreary so far. We still have 2 feet of snow on the ground and it's snowing more today!! Oh my. I too wanted to stay under the covers this morning, as the sunshine has been a stranger to us for the last few weeks. Both hubby and I feel like hibernating! He has been sick now for 10 days.. feeling a touch better but not much, even with antibiotics and Prednisone. I love your pretty sitting room table setup... the greens are so pretty and the twig mats are just perfect. I can't seem to get into ANY holiday spirit since Christmas and can't get out of the doledroms either. Well.. when the sun comes back, maybe I'll feel better. I would be thankful for "just rain" right now! xoxo Marilyn

    1. Thanks, Marilyn. I think we are all deprived of a little brightness just now. We usually have some weak sunshine most days, but this has been the longest stretch of "nothing" and I am really tired of it..Happy Thursday..Judy

  8. Hi Judy, love your pretty table-scape! Your transferware dishes are wonderful, with the sweetest little scenes and such a nice seating area, too. Oh, I am feeling like pulling the covers up, too, just like your darling little fur-baby. It's snowing outside as I speak......this has been such a long winter. Love your cabbage pitcher and creamer and the twig place mats. The black and green look so nice together. Make yourself a nice, hot cup of tea and find a sweet treat and we will both 'think spring' together! Hugs xo Karen

  9. Love your place settings and the greenery looks like the real thing from my end. I must say I do like those french doors with the framed wreath.
I am thinking about switching out a door downstairs to the den with a french door with curtains at it.
Probably be dry as a desert this summer with all the rain now. Calling for snow here on friday. I have the grands tomorrow as they both have been sick with fever and cold. I guess we are next to get it now.
Corned beef and cabbage sounds so good. love it.

    1. Thanks, Betsy. We normally leave those doors open, it makes the house seem bigger and brighter, but thought it would keep the heat in the room we use the most if they were closed. Be glad when I can open them again..Happy Thursday..Judy

  11. I'm not the tiniest bit Irish, but I adore spring and I adore green. March has never been my favorite, even though it's my birthday month, I prefer July and August, bright sunshine and the beach. But I'll take March over January any day of the week!! Lovely table, Judy!! oxox

  14. Such a pretty post. I think we are all looking forward to spring and sunshine. We still have snow, but it's got to start melting soon, after all spring is just around the corner. Your dishes are so pretty, I especially like the one with the rooster :)
Oh, and that little bird in his yellow raincoat, how adorable is that? So cute!

  15. Love how you've got your table all decorated with green! Very creative how you gathered all the various plates, napkins and greenery together to create a darling little setting! Such lovely pictures you took... and I don't care much for the gray skies either, and I am looking very much forward to spring! Even though we are under a snowstorm warning tonight, lol... very late in the year for us even!
