TIME FOR A CHANGE...

As the clock ticks
 closer and closer to spring,
 small changes are noticeable.
 The first camellia
is in full bloom
and blessing the Cottage
with its pretty presence.

A certain member of the household
is experiencing a small change.
 Before,
little feet could only stand
a few minutes on the cold ground,
now,
a spot in the sunshine
feels like the place
 to be.

We had a festive
St. Patrick's Day
 and...

...now
the time is right
for a spring bouquet.

Last weekend was magnificent.
 Getting out of bed
and being confronted with sunshine
is a beautiful thing...

...almost as good
as a trip to
 Starbucks.

It was a perfect day
for a drive in the country.

  At a lower elevation,
the flowering fruit trees
 are in full bloom
 and look bright and beautiful
against their surroundings of
 blue skies, water and stone...

...and cows
 grazing in green pastures,
under the newly budding oaks,
are a sight to behold.

At the beginning of our journey,
the skies were bright and shining
and the clouds were
fluffy and white...

...as the sky got darker,
it just makes you aware of
 how quickly
 change can happen.

By the time
we were closer to home,
 the rain was back
 in full force.

Change
is not always a bad thing.
It can also be a sign of
 wondrous things
to come...

...such as California
 is finally out
of the drought
for the first time in
 more than seven years.

The best change of all
is that we truly
welcome Spring tomorrow
and it seems as if
we have been waiting forever.
 So enjoy the time.

 It is a glorious,
but fleeting season.

"Let it rain on some days,
let yourself shiver
 on some cold nights,
so when it's Spring
you'll know why
it was
all worth going through."

Sanhita Baruah

...Judy...

I know all this because
 a little birdie
 just told me so.

  6. The birdie told you so, I like that ending. That tree was so pretty with those gnarly branches. I would want to cut one to use as a form for an arrangement. They had such pretty forms.
So glad your drought is over. I know you are.
Those spoiled little doggies. So sweet. I can see who the leader is sitting in the front seat in the middle. So sweet and content.

  8. There is nothing better than sunshine!
I love to turn my face to the sun, close my eyes, and soak up the light and warmth :)

Yay! Happy for you all to be out of a drought! I think the entire country has had a really wet winter, and hopefully everyone has plenty of water for the growing season.

    Warm Spring wishes :)

  9. Hi Judy,
What a beautiful home you have. I especially love the wreath made of balls of yarn! Although we live on opposite sides of the country, I can tell from your blog that we have a lot in common so I'm adding it to my sidebar so I won't forget to keep in touch. We've traveled through most of California; what a beautiful state! Our son lived in the Silicon Valley for awhile (Mountain View). The tree in your photo with the cow reminds me of some of the Live Oaks we see here in the South (I'm writing this from the road!) with moss hanging off the branches. We'll be visiting SC and TN next and I'll be blogging from the road. Hopefully, when we get home in April, it will be Spring in southern Maine too. Best, Cheryl

  10. I want to be living in your life and space right now! Love the wreath and chick and that fabulous first photo. Your sweet dog looks like he's in summer bliss -- that's a darling photo. It all looks beautiful, Judy. Maybe, really, spring!

  11. Your blog post is lovely! Being a native Californian (who lives in Texas) I'm glad to see the state is finished with drought for a while at least...YAY.

  12. Lovely, Judy! The oaks there around your home are so pretty!!! I forget how tall they were ~ ours at Deer Brush Ranch, Shingle Springs, were SO TALL. Our new home here in Texas has "bent oaks." I have never heard of them but the branches on some of the trees have these almost 90 degree bends... Hence the name, I guess. ;)

My MIL Gini was just visiting from Ranch Cordova and shared that very same End of Drought headline with us. Think the water companies will reduce the costs of water?? They should.

Happy spring to you and enjoy the cows, the flowering cherry and pear trees and all the wildflowers.
    Hugs,
    Barb :)

  13. Hi Judy, sorry I didn't comment sooner! Your post was in my "spam" folder and it makes me so mad when that happens! First day of Spring here has come and gone and we HAVE been having some pretty nice weather. Although like in your area, we are NOT seeing anything blooming as of yet. I will wait patiently(?) for some flowers! I do see in our front yard that some tiny little purple pansies survived the winter and have been poking their heads up through the dead vines from last year! That's always a sight to behold! With some sunshine, (and the snow all gone now) I'm finding myself walking around our yard looking for any signs of the new growing season. So far... nothing. It's 61 here today and hubby and I were talking about running to the store to see if their outdoor furniture is out yet! We need two comfy chairs to sit out in our front yard where the morning sun hits, so we can watch the world go by. Love you countryside drive photos, the pink trees, and the doggies all set for their Starbucks run! Happy Spring! xoxoo Marilyn
