THE SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS - PART TWO - A CHRISTMAS COTTAGE TOUR - 2019

Do you remember
 back in summer time
I fixed you up a Cottage stew
where blue and white
were the meat and potatoes and
I told you that
Christmas was going to be dessert?
Well, I still have a lot to show you
so I thought we'd eat dessert first -
and the parlor seems to be
 the logical room where
it all comes together - and where...

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas

I have had this
sweet little Nativity set
since the kids were little.
 After they grew up,
 I put it away and
this is the first time
I've brought it out.
It is probably close to 54 years old.
I bought it at a craft fair
 all those years ago.

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go
Take a look at the five and ten, it's glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes that glow

I'm sure there are some of you out there
that remember Woolworth's
five and dime store.

In Santa Cruz
we had one on the main street of downtown.
It was actually a
Christmas experience
every time I was able to go there.

One of my fondest memories
when I was very young
was going with
my grandmother and my cousin and
having lunch
 at the lunch counter
of Woolworth's.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in every store
But the prettiest sight to see
is the holly that will be
On your own front door

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go
There's a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well
It's the sturdy kind
that doesn't mind the snow

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Soon the bells will start
And the thing
that will make 'em ring
is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart."

Meredith Wilson - 1951

Our beautiful little
Christmas blue bird angel
is the right one to sing
the carol that is within
everyone's heart
at this time of year.

Please return next time and
celebrate in our sitting room
 where the rumor is that
Santa Claus is coming to town
very soon.

  4. Judy!!
How lovely and charming everything looks!! I just love your parlor and that Tree!!! So pretty!! I will never be disappointed in seeing your Kitchen even if there is plaid!! LOL!! I do admire that style and if i had another room left to decorate, I would probably decorate it in that style. I do plan on using some red checked and black checked ribbon in the Kitchen for the Winter..... But for Christmas, I stuck to my Victorian guns, so to speak, and remained true to the style that I love!! I so enjoy seeing your beautiful home..It is such a treat for me!! Are you on facebook? There is a lovely Victorian group on face book that I belong to and they all share their love for that style. I hope you have a great weekend, my friend!!
    Hugs,
    Deb

  9. It's all wonderful as usual! Yes.. the sweet wood nativity scene is just precious! And I love your mantel with all the greenery and the candles glowing against the mirror. I want one just like that. Ours is still unfinished from when we had the woodstove insert put in so we're thinking of tile around it which would look so pretty, and then the wood posts on the side and white mantel. I can dream anyway. Just showed hubby yours and he really liked it! So fun touring your darling cottage! Hugs.. Marilyn
