ON THE ROAD AGAIN AND OTHER DELIGHTS...

Because things are moving slowly around here
with all the autumn decorations in place and
 nothing going on for Halloween,
I thought we might take a break and
go out on the road
to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather and
 maybe spot some changing colors
of the season
 at the higher elevations.

Well,
it turned out to be a big bust.

We drove up to 5000 feet and
this was the best show of color
that we could find.
 Even the greens that change
right here on our street
 are not showing yet,
as proof in last year's post.
I guess it is another part
of the global warming problem.
 The whole trip turned out
to be a
sorry set of affairs.

We stopped to let the dogs out for a bit and
the Princess Diva, aka Robin,
stepped on a pine cone oozing sap and
it stuck to her foot and
she spent the whole way home
worrying about it...

...Kai, on the other hand,
needs a new car bed
so he spent the whole time
whining with his head
hanging down.

The bright spot of the trip
was the sighting of this old crow,
 huge and noisy.
 Have you ever heard
 them make that knocking sound?
 I had not and
 it was really weird.
 At first,
we thought it was a woodpecker,
but it is something
that comes out of their throat.
  I googled it and
the sound is called a rattle.
It is used when the bird sees something
that is of interest to it,
such as another crow, humans, or otherwise.
Maybe he/she had a nest close by and
 it thought the dogs
were a little too close.
  Old Crow
was so large
that I bet it could have
picked Robin up easily and
 carried her off.

The skies are still full of smoke
no matter where you go.
 Certain times of the day
are worse than others
 but it is always there.

We are still ordering
our groceries from Raley's and
it is really turning out well.
If we ever are so lucky
to get over this pandemic and
 they still offer the service,
I think I will continue to do so.
 It is so easy
 to fill your cart
from the abundant amount of products
that they offer.
I get fresh flowers each time
for the same price
that you would pay inside the store.
The only draw back is
 that they are the
same flowers each time.
It is nice to have a variety
so I have just added
some faux stems
in autumn colors and
it looks all
 brand new.

I am getting anxious for Christmas and
have been ordering a few things on line.
I did not order this sleigh,
as you know that I have one
that my dad made that looks similar,
so I thought I might paint mine
 to look like this one.

A harvest of hydrangeas.
 To adorn the Christmas tree?..
..Maybe.

I am working on
my latest paint by number picture and
 have gotten this far.
I always seem to do
the plainest colors first and
now I can't wait to put
some more color into it.

Other than the fact
that in a couple of days
 the Captain and I will
celebrate another year together,
 the big 60,
really nothing new here
so not a very interesting post but,
hopefully, things will pick
up in the future.

New Blogger Problems:

I figure there are bound to be some, so thought I would make this a little permanent fixture that will pop up from time to time.

No matter what
I set my font type or size on
when I start typing,
it just slips back to something else altogether.
Instead of trying to change it each time,
 or letting myself get frustrated,
 I just keep typing and
let it do what it wants to
but when I am all through,
I highlight all the words and
then set it to the type that I want and
 that takes care of it.
If there is an easier way,
let me know,
I just thought if others
are having the same problem
this is one way
of fixing it.

You know the drill...

Stay smart,

 Stay well,

 Wear your mask
(obviously, they do work!)

and Vote

if the time is right for you to do so.

 We just got notice that
our ballots are in the mail.

Enjoy the week.

  5. Judy, Look at you kids...what did you do get married right after prom? LOL I love that photo. I had to laugh about the whiney pups...poor things. We all gotta whine at times. Love those hydrangeas. I like seeing them fresh or dried. Sorry you saw few colors of autumn. That smoke is depressing, i's been here from the fires out there. I pray for the fires to end. I worry where will everyone go, who lost their homes. Sad world. I do wish you joy. I want everyone to have some joy in their day. Waiting to see the painting finished. Blessings to you and your handsome Captain. xoxo, Susie

    1. Thanks so much Susie. Funny you! We do look like a prom date don't we? We are still having smoke, so sad what is now happening in the Napa Valley. Either there will be no wine or it will cost a fortune. Glad I am not a drinker! It is sad what is happening now. I am emjoying the process of the painting. I get tired of one color so am anxious to get to the next brighter one. See I do have a lot to look forward to..Stay well my friend..xxoJudy

  6. I just love your photos. We drove through Lassen Volcanic National Park on Saturday and it was starting to show the Fall colors. We hope to go back and take photos in the next week or so. The smoke has been bad here too. Everyday the air is unhealthy. I can't wait for some rain. They are saying Saturday. I will believe it when I hear it on my roof.

Happy Anniversary. 60 years is something to be proud of these days.

    1. Thanks so much, Debby. Yes, that is a long time but it went by way too fast. I love the changing of the leaves and bet you will see some beauties next week. We are expecting a little rain this week so that may help all the smoke for awhile..Stay well..xxoJudy

  8. Fun taking a road trip with you, I was going to be stunned if you found color, we are to darn hot for change! Although I drove around my property this morning to see if any of my trees were thinking about it! All I noticed was my fall horror, deer rubbing their antlers on my young trees killing them in the long run with so much damage deep in the camden 🙁

Congrats on 60 years, what a lovely long marriage, you wonder if that too will be a thing if the past, we just celebrated 36.

Rather off topic, noticed your pups and wonder what vet you use, mine retired during covid, he recommended motherlode, they said no new clients, since covid they are completely overwhelmed, busiest time in their careers, said no one taking new clients in the area. Just curious, I loved our old vet, I have a fall back, but open to suggestions.

    1. Thanks so much. I enjoy so much following your quiet life. 60 years is a long time and they have been good ones too. I am blessed and lucky, I will admit. Happy belated 36 you are a little more than half way there! We use Brighton Greens, it is by the fairgrounds. We have been through 3 changes of vets there and have always been happy. Two young women are partners there now and we like them. I don't know if they are taking new customers but it wouldn't hurt to call..Stay well..xxoJudy

    2. Thank you for the name, I'm amazed that vets are overwhelmed in their practices, I guess empty shelters and people home has been a blessing for the animals! Thank you for sharing 😊

  9. That is so funny/strange, about going so high and no color changes yet. We are at about 2260 feet here in Madras, and there is LOTS of color changing going on! So dry here and maybe that's why. I guess I need to take some Fall pictures. I bet the drive was nice anyway.. just to get out somewhere else for a change of scenery. Always makes me glad to get home though! I have the same problem as you with the fonts and size, etc. I just type the entire post, and then go back and highlight it all and change to a bigger size.. but seems like when I go to preview my post, it all seems small again and a totally different font! I've given up on that too. I do love your couch with the pretty pillows and those gorgeous orange and yellow flowers! I haven't done a thing in the house for Fall yet... but it's pretty just looking out of the windows to see the neighbors' maple trees turning. Have a good week! xoxoxo Marilyn

    1. Thanks so much, Marilyn. Maybe it is a little early yet, although we had trees changing last year at this time, but we have been so hot and no rain at all so maybe that has something to do with it. I like putting the faux flowers in with the real, if you feel that there isn't enough color that always helps. I love the changing leaves, around here they usually turn and then we have wind and rain and they get blown away. They normally don't last very long any way. My typing seemed to work doing it that way, but I'm sure there will be something else going haywire before too long..Stay well, my friend..xxoJudy

  10. Hey dear Judy, LOVE that wonderful photo of you two kids!!! Congrats on another year together. I'm ready for a day trip too, and I'll try not to whine! Our trees seem later each year, but never get to peak time until late October. I'm really looking forward to it!

    1. Thanks so much, Debra. Someone said we looked like we were at our prom! Lasted 60 years so far and we never went to a prom together! Maybe it is a little early still, but we have been so hot here that I think a little cold helps them along. We are supposed to have some rain this week. It is so dry. I do look forward to the changing leaves. Such a beautiful time of the year..Stay well..xxoJudy

    1. Thanks so much Sandi. Is the comment section hard for you to see? Is it the darker gray that I type in? With this new blogger it just showed up. Half of the stuff I don't even know how it gets here. I can see it all OK so I am assuming that it looks the same way to everyone, but maybe it shows up different in the translation..Sometimes the gray isn't there so maybe I can figure out why that is..Stay well..xxoJudy

    2. Sandi, I just figured out that if I don't click on the "reply" button and just type in the box, then the gray doesn't come up. I will try that from now on, but it seems that sometimes the box doesn't come up until I click "reply". Maybe that will be better if I can make it work all the time..Stay well..xxoJudy This one may not work though because the box didn't come up under the reply first..We shall see.

  14. I love your road trip! It looks lovely, even if the color wasn't quite what you hoped. And that sleigh is darling! Your blogger problem - here's what I do. I'm sure there's probably a better way but this works for now. If it's just the font, after you get your post written, control a (if not MAC) and block the whole post. Then go to the fonts and choose your font and size. The whole thing will switch to that font. Then you can go back and block any changes you want (an italic, underline, etc. -- actually, you can do that before if you want.) Try it on a test post to see if it works for you.

    1. Thanks so much, Jeanie. It is fun to get away even for a little while. I tried the way that you are saying, but you know me!! it is typing for dummies! It went OK but when I went to change the font it just came back the way it was, so, for this dummy, evidently the simpleton way I do it seems to work for me. Keep the hints coming though, because you never know when something good might sink in!..Stay well, my friend..xxoJudy
