"Springtime is the land awakening
The March winds are the morning yawn".
Lewis Grizzard
We are at the dawn of springtime.
In four days
it will burst wide open.
As March winds are blowing
and snow is still on the ground,
I am trying to join in the game.
It doesn't seem that easy to me.
On a Sunday errand run,
I noticed that our local IHOP's parking lot was filled to capacity.
For a restaurant that on a BC (Before Covid) day
hardly ever had more than a few cars
and snow is still on the ground,
I am trying to join in the game.

at a time in the parking lot,
it appeared that the community
can hardly wait to get back at it.

Another popular restaurant in town
that is closing their doors after 37 years,
had diners overflowing
for one last time.
("We weren't supposed to do it
but we did it anyway.
Patrons just wanted
one last seat at the table.")
Serious questions:
How many of these people
have had their vaccinations
and how many are paying attention
to all safety guidelines?
These are questions
I can't help asking
and I can't help
being skeptical of the answers.
In the mean time
our numbers are still rising.
We had our second dose
of vaccine yesterday.
My arm was a little sore and itchy
right afterwards
and I had slight shivers during the night and some stiffness when I got up.
Now, other than a pretty sore arm,
I feel fine.
The Captain had
just a slightly sore arm
and nothing else.
I made a big pot of chicken noodle soup
just in case
and it was so good
whether we needed it or not!
All the kids
have had their second shot,
except Tim will have his second
the first part of April.
After all the waiting periods are over,
I'm hopeful
we can get together safely
and enjoy each other's company
for the first time since Christmas, 2019.
I can't wait.
I know there are one's
that may think I am over thinking this
but it is important to me
to follow the science
that may think I am over thinking this

to follow the science
and to do everything I can
to guarantee that myself,
to guarantee that myself,
my loved ones
and everyone else
we may come in contact with,

stays safe.
To me, it is not a lot to ask.
Truthfully,
I have empathy for those

I have no patience for those

It is such a small thing to do

I have been showing
some signs of spring around the Cottage.
Just a little nod to happiness
for being out of winter
and some wishes
for a better year to come.

Chilly here in Michigan. We pass restaurants here all of the time that are at capacity. We are only supposed to be at 50%. Scares me. Janice
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Janice. We can't get out of the purple tier here. It drops down one day and then goes up more the next. I don't know what people expect! I want to go out when the waiting period is over, but if this keeps up I don't think I will feel comfortable. My friends who have been vaccinated are asking me to lunch and I just can't go yet..Stay well..xxoJudy
DeleteYou are better than I am. I have zero patience for anyone who won't be vaccinated (with the exception of if there are concrete medical reasons). I'm with you on following things closely. And I'm thrilled your family is nearly done and you should all be able to be together safely soon. Big smiles.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jeanie. My friends are going to lunch and wanted me to come. They have all been vaccinated and, truly, I feel like somwhat of a whimp, but I just can't make myself do it just yet. When I get up the nerve and do it the first time, it probably won't be so hard to do then, I hope! I really do want to be part of the world again..Stay Well..xxoJudy
DeleteYay finally started my vaccine today. I got in by a miracle and someone not showing for their shot so they called me at the last minute and I was more than happy to go and get it started. I feel lucky. I love the picture with your sweet tall bunny and his watering can. So cute. xoxo
ReplyDeleteKris, so glad you got started. After the second one, my arm hurt right away but thought I felt OK otherwise. Right after I put out the blog, I started getting the chills, a slight fever and quite achy. I went to bed and I feel fine this morning. Small price to pay for it all..Stay well..xxoJudy
DeleteVery fine photos;) have a nice day;)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Martyna..Stay well..xxoJudy
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI have been a very lazy blogger lately and haven't posted or checked in much. I have become more interested in Instagram, probably because it is much easier...but then I miss seeing great posts like yours. I absolutely agree with you about Covid and your new header is beautiful.
Take care and hooray for the vaccines, I too have had both shots without any problems.
Thanks so much, Adrienne. I have missed you so I hope you will continue. I don't do Instagram but I know it showcases some beautiful photography so you will have a good account. I may have spoken too soon about the aftermath of the second vaccine. The next day I did have flue like symptoms and spent the whole day in bed, but that was as long as it lasted. A small price to pay for the good that it will do..Stay well..xxoJudy
DeleteHello Judy
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for sharing these lovely photographs, they are so cheering.
Here in England UK the vaccination programme seems to be going well but we are still in lockdown.
I'm looking forward to being with family/friends (hopefully) sometime later this year.
Take care, stay safe and well.
All the best Jan
Thanks so much, Jan. I appreciate it. Sometimes I wish we would all be in lockdown, unfortunately, a good hard nod to that is the only way we are ever going to get this all in hand. It seems when one little good word comes out about it, that seems to give some the go ahead to throw away all the progress that is made..Stay well..xxoJudy
DeleteHi Judy, I so agree with you on your thoughts. It can be so frustrating...I try not to think about it and just follow the guidelines and stay away from places that are not safe. We are slow to get the vaccine here in WA state, but finally we have an appt. the end of the month. I will feel better when my whole family is vaccinated. They just opened it up to more age groups. I'm going to take precautions until the whole country is vaccinated or we have herd immunity. We can't control what others do, we can only control ourselves. Love your spring photos. I think we will feel better once we can enjoy our gardens and sit in the sunshine. Sending you big hugs xo Karen
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Karen. I'm so glad you are now being able to get your shots. I can't wait for our whole family to be done so we can get together. I know it won't be exactly like old times, but being smart is not too hard to do so we will be able to manage it. You are so right that we can't think for everybody else, only ourselves, but there are some, unfortunately, I would love to give a smack alongside the head!!..Stay well..xxoJudy
DeleteBeautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, I appreciate your kind words. I hope you will come back for another visit..Stay well..xxoJudy
DeleteI still wear a mask when out in public. I will admit I didn't at my quilt retreat but we were spaced 6-8ft apart except for a few pictures. I made everyone ask themselves and take responsibility. I think I was probably the only one who hadn't had a shot yet. I tried but I had the shingles vaccine 2 days before the sent me my notice of my appointment. So I had to cancel darn it. I do get one tomorrow. Yippee. I'm beginning to feel like a pincushion in the last few months. Knee issues. I get a little upset at a friend of ours who refuse to wear a mask when they're out and about. Their words not mine "It's infringing on their rights to make their own health decision" not thinking they could be the one creating a health risk. You take care and stay safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Carla. It is so hard when we try to do the right thing and then have to deal with those that don't care. They are selfish and uninformed. I can't say it any differently. Am now hearing so many stories about the long term after effects of having the virus. It is sad and so easy to avoid it..Stay well and take care. I'm glad you are able to get your shot..xxoJudy
DeleteJudy,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!! I still need to come back and go through the rest of your posts....I have really been busy this Winter as I went through everything in my craft room and passed a lot of things on to others and I finally completed organizing all mt photos into cases...9000 of them!!!!Our numbers are going up here in Pa, too. Joe is vaccinated with the J&J one and our oldest son who qualifies because he smokes, is scheduled for next week..... I am waiting til I can speak with my family Dr. who i am able to go back to after 2 years because of a change in insurance..Our younger son and DIl will not be taking it as they are very wary of side effects in years to come and I can understand their fear as this frequently happens with vaccines and medications. Being in the Healthcare industry for as long as I was, I understand both points of view and are valid concerns...I am wary myself because of my medical conditions and my allergies especially to the flu vaccine. I went for a hair cut yesterday and that is usually the only time I leave the house which is once a month...I am perfectly content staying home...I will be back to do more visiting soon!!
Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Thanks so much, Debbie. You have really been busy. You don't have to answer to each post as I know you enjoy them, as I do yours. I hope your family all stays safe and I know there are quite a few people that are leary of getting the vaccine. If we listened to all the hype that is out there we NEVER would leave our homes. I always feel the best bet is to talk to my doctor and take her advice. I don't mind staying home but we have one more week before we are totally good so I will stay in until that time is up. You should see my hair. I had let it go gray before Covid but I haven't had it cut since last January. I will have to rethink about going as a pony-tail isn't always attractive after a certain age!..Stay well..xxoJudy
DeleteOk I have to know where you are going in 2 days! I got #2 yesterday and have a very sore arm, no fun for heavy gardening! I'm excited to feel safe in 2 weeks! When you mentioned IHOP i got a little thrill, I also want awful Annie's eggs Benedict and dining at pottery world pretending I'm in Europe! I'm so sick of my food for a year it is going to be an event to be served! With warm weather next week our gardens should really be kicking in 😊
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. I'm afraid you will have to wait a while before you know where I am going!!Haha. I'm glad your shots are over and it doesn't sound like it was too bad for you. I did have flue symptoms after the second one but it was all worth it. Tell us about your "trip to Europe" in a couple of weeks and we will go along with you. Sad to say, or maybe not, I am not getting tired of my own cooking yet! Lots of good things should come with warm weather..Stay well..xxoJudy
DeleteYes spring is springing which is so nice! Our yard and garden are still dull with no color, but hopefully in a month or so, my Irises will start getting ready to bloom and by then, I can get some color planted. We don't have many perennials in our yard except for a few shrubs and the Iris. Most things I've planted in the last 5 years have not survived the harsh winters here. I mostly just plant annuals now so I can have color all summer long (if the earwigs don't eat them all up!). I don't know if the vaccines for Covid totally protect us or others, so I hope everyone continues to stay safe, distance, wash, and wear their masks. It does worry me when I see the restaurants full to the brim and everyone sitting right next to each other and not wearing masks! We did go eat out last week when my son visited, but the restaurant was really full and I felt very uncomfortable and unsafe. Won't do that again for a long while! I'd prefer to continue to go through the drive-throughs! Take care... Marilyn
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Marilyn. I am with you. Have only done drive-through so far and I don't have any desire to go out to a restaurant. If you wear the mask in but take it off when you are sitting close to someone, what good does that do. No, I will be waiting for a long while yet. I think the vaccines are the best thing to come along for awhile, BUT only if everyone gets them and still wear the masks for some time to come. People need to get smarter about it all. It just stands to reason what will work..Stay well..xxoJudy
