EVERYTHING OLD IS NEW AGAIN...

Happy Labor Day!

You are reading this post today
instead of the usual time,
as we will be losing our power
sometime between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM and
it will not be turned back on
 until Wednesday after 7:00 PM.
 (If we are lucky).

Last week's star of the show with added autumn touches

Everything old is new again.
 What a cliche.
How many times will we hear that phrase
used over the course of our lives?
Too many to count but never,
I repeat never,
 has it been more true
than at this time, at least in my life.

 Staying in,
as the Coronavirus is beating down our doors,
I have not been out to a store
since last March.
 I even looked back
at my blog posts
to find the exact date when
that happened and that was March 8
when I bought
the plain green wreath.

As summer is wearing down
it seems to be taking
my ambitions with it.
Last week, I straightened up the entry hall
but that is the first real cleaning
I have done in the Cottage
 for awhile now.
Outside of making the bed and
doing dishes,
very little attention has been given
to this sweet Cottage.
Even though I talk to myself every day
to get up and get going,
 I haven't felt that urge
to accomplish much.
  I am hoping
that the hot weather is the reason and
when the cooler days
 of fall start happening,
I will get back to what
I actually love
to do.

What is a good thing though,
 is writing my blog,
It is something I love to do and
what it mainly boils down to is
I need photos to accompany the writing and
I would rather use ones
that I have just taken
 over older ones.
 Therefore,
since I am stuck in the house,
 there needs to be things
in the house to photograph.
And those things in the house
need to be photo worthy.
 So, therefore,
the house needs to be clean!

I think that was pretty smart of me
to give myself a kick in the butt
to get me started...

Even a tiny little bit of Moonlight and Magic has creeped in

...and that brings us back to
that old cliche.
 Everything old is new again
when it comes to fall decorating this year,
so I looked back at one year ago
to see where we were
when all our troubles
seemed so far away...

...in the first post
 of September, 2019,
I wrote about our new
 little kitchen island and...

...the fall decorated garland and
wreath to match
on the parlor mantel,
so that just seems like
 the logical place
for this week's post to go.

With a little glass cleaner and
 a squirt of lemon oil,
the parlor mantel is again ready for fall.
  I was going to use
the same garland and wreath like last year,
 with a small change up,
but the Captain was busy and
couldn't get the boxes down for me
so I decided to go with
whatever I could find around the Cottage
that would fit in with fall.
 Of course,
blue and white is always appropriate and
 with a little strand
of autumn leaves and dried hydrangeas
from last year,
 it worked out quite well.
Taking photos of the parlor mantel
does not always turn out great.
 With the big mirror
 reflecting the doorway across and
 the entry too,
it seems a little busy and
takes away from the actual decoration.
I split it up in two or three parts
so you can still get the idea
of what it looks like
 all together.

You might also notice
that the blue chairs
 from the Sitting Room
 are now in the parlor.
What happened to the other chairs?
That is another story
for another fall day.
 Obviously
that burgundy carpet
is still there also.
 Will that be gone
on another fall day?

One can only hope!

The little Ikea island
is really one of our better investments.
 It takes up
just the right amount of space
in the kitchen and
works well for
some vegetable and dish storage and
for the cutting board.
 It is really
the working part of the kitchen.
I have spruced it up and
made it look a little more
 autumn presentable.

Thank you, Gold Country Cottage,
 for giving me some encouragement
to getting back on track.
 I didn't plan on being
so neglectful of you but
sometimes things just happen
that are out of our control
but little by little
we will get back to being
 right side up.

FYI:

The following is not a political statement but there are ones
who might see it that way.
I can't help how you see it,
I can just know what I mean
when I say it.
I just wanted to make you aware
 of the possibility and
to give you the choice
 of whether you wanted to
read any further.

It is just a
 summery of the facts
of the world we are
 now living in and
how I view it.
I have written from my own memory
so some of the numbers may be off
but the events in question
have been fact checked.

As you know,
I am a huge advocate of wearing masks and
from the comments I have been getting,
I know that most feel the same as I do.
 I just heard a story
that maybe some of you have heard too.
 But, just in case
you might not think that
 masks should be
an important part of our lives now,
 think again.

There is a
very small town in Maine
that had no Covid-19 cases
from the very beginning.
They lasted a long time that way
until a wedding was held
on August 7 with 62 people in attendance.

  It was a wonderful occasion
as most weddings are.
They celebrated, drank and made merry,
all without masks and social distancing, and
 the fun lasted
until 30 of the 62 guests
 came down with the virus,
ages 4 through 78.

After the celebrating was over,
they all traveled back to their homes and
 infected 123 people, killing one.

A nurse went back to her
Senior Rehab agency that she worked at,
a guard went back to work at the jail,
a number of employees
of the host venue became sick,
a teacher went to her class
on the first day of school and
infected a number of staff
along with the Superintendent of Schools, and
an 83 year old woman,
who wasn't even at the wedding,
 contracted the virus and died
while her husband, a WW11 veteran
 went into the hospital
a week after she passed.

The pastor who officiated at the wedding
is a pilot and flew his own plane
to the destination from a neighboring town.

He was diagnosed on a Saturday and
on Sunday held services at his church
with a large number in the congregation and
 a fifteen person choir
all without wearing masks.
 A number of firemen
who attended church services became ill.

  The church is now known
 as a Super Spreader.

 The pastor went ahead
 with his church service
because he doesn't believe any of this.

  He says the Coronavirus and
all that it involves
is a made up situation by Democrats.
  He says that his church
is in the front line of a culture war and
they are battling against
 a "socialistic" platform
that mandates mask wearing and
distant learning in schools,
all so that the religious communities
can be stopped from the advancement
 of the gospel.

At a rally
in New Hampshire recently,
 it was said that Democrats
don't believe that
law abiding citizens
can go to church together.

 Not only
are those nonsensical statements to make,
no matter what party you are affiliated with,
or who you are,
 they all are blatant untruths.

  The concern is that
large groups congregating,
without masks and without social distancing, are spreading the virus and
 190,000 and counting
 have died.

It is only as simple as that.

  I hope you know me
 well enough by now
to know that I am not an hysteric and
that I try to be
a logical thinker.

The election is coming on
fast and furious.
  Whether you are a
 Republican, Democrat or an Independent,
we are all in this together, and
it is imperative
that we use common sense,
good judgement and good intentions
and pick whom we vote for
 very carefully.

  Anyone who promotes
this type of misinformation
or who believes it as truth,
should be given hard scrutiny.
 It is very important
who we choose as our leaders.
 The outcome could be
 devastating and
even deadly.

This is not a political statement
 or a recommendation for
any one candidate running for office
 over another.
 It is not an attempt
to throw anyone under a bus
 for their beliefs,
as your beliefs are as important to you
 as mine are to me.
I welcome your comments
whether you agree with me
 or not.

Stay smart,
 stay well and
wear your masks.

...Judy...

  1. Hi Judy. It is crazy some of the misinformation that is presented out in our world. People need to listen to the scientist and doctors that are studying this virus. I think some people unfortunately will have to lose a close love, friend or relative to really believe this is true and it should not have to be this way. While we live in a country of freedom of speech and belief it can sometimes lead to people with their own agenda to make things up that could be harmful to those that believe in what they are saying. That is the sadness of people being misinformed. On a lighter note I love seeing and scrolling through all your lovely pics of the cottage. So pretty. Wow about losing your electricity for that long. That has to be hard. We went without ours here for a week and I have to tell you it was not good. Hang in there and stay safe and let's keep good thoughts that things will begin to change for the better. Happy Labor Day. xoxo Kris

    1. Thanks so much, Kris. I thought that little story made such a good point about how important wearing masks, among other things, is. All people should be respected for their point of view but some are just so misinformed and they have no needs to learn the truth. I don't understand as they have to live in the world like we all do. I am feeling good about doing a little bit around here. Slow but sure. I guess there are more fires around California, not any really close to us, but the smoke travels unbelievably far. Looking out my window, it looks like the dead of winter and that it will rain any minute, but step outside and the heat is like an oven..Happy Labor Day and stay well my friend..xxoJudy

  2. Hi Judy... such a beautiful post - loved your "old" and "new" photos of all your wonderful Fall decor and colors. And there is that kitchen floor that I love! As I told you a couple of years ago (or more?) they had that same floor in their house in Portland, OR as I was growing up. Their house was built in about 1952 or so. Seeing your kitchen floor always gives me such good memories of home when I was a child! I've become the same way about my house.. as far as no motivation to clean it! I don't get it really.... we even did have some company on July 5th so I guess that did motivate me to clean a deep clean that time.. but haven't since then! The dust is piling up on the surfaces and do I care? no! so weird. I have managed to kick myself into at lease vacuuming now and then as we have a black kitty who sheds like crazy - when I finally get tired of seeing all that black cat hair on the carpet, I do (with reluctance) vacuum! And of course, do the normal day to day stuff.. but cleaning my sweet home.... just not interested. The "company" was my soon and his fiance and her son.. and we did wear masks or stayed at least 6 feet apart if we didn't wear them. I do believe in wearing masks in public for the protection of myself and others... who knows who may have infected us if we don't? I always thought we should wear them when the other strains of flu virus were rampant in years past.. but no one did wear them and I felt weird wearing one. I have certain beliefs too about what is going on but I mostly keep them to myself. I just pray that this world and our country can be turned right side up... after the coming election..... I feel it is in God's hands and I pray for that. Have a nice Monday! xoxo Marilyn

    1. Thanks so much, Marilyn. There is so much stuff going on for all of us and it is no wonder we just don't crawl into bed and pull up the covers. I do have that thought once in awhile before getting up some mornings! I have felt better once I started doing some things so maybe that will catch on. Now, with starting to shut down our power around here, that will probably be another excuse for me not to do anything! I had to laugh when you said you just keep your mouth shut. I should! No doubt! But I can take alot and once it really gets to me, then the dam bursts!.Hope you are having a good Labor Day..Stay well, my friend..xxoJudy

  4. I always love seeing your cottage. It is a warm place and very inviting. Oh I am wondering just how smart Americans are...I used to think we were a well educated country. I am telling you Judy, I do not have to be hit on the head with a brick,to know that is going to hurt. Unbelievable. God help us all. Blessings to you and the Captain, stay safe. xoxo, Susie

    1. Thanks so much, Susie. You may be right. I hope that our country can withstand it all. There are so many reasons, but when I started this post on Saturday, we were at 188,000 dead, I had to change it to 190,000 this morning. That is just from the problems from the virus, it is scary to think of what else can happen. Stay well my friend..xxoJudy

    1. Thanks so much, Janice. I really love that paper and hubby said he would be up for taking it down. Usually, I would jump at anything that he would mention for a change, but I really do love it so I think it will stay for awhile anyway. I wish he would just be as accommodating about getting rid of the ugly carpeting. I'm working on it..Stay well my friend..xxoJudy

  6. Best post I've read on Covid in ages and spot on. It's not a political issue. It's a health issue and a dangerous one. Our nice neighbors next door had a slew of people here this past week including cars from out of state. I hope they are healthy, I hope they "know" where they've been. But up here I'm never certain. Yesterday I went to Tractor Supply at ten minutes to closing, figuring no one would be there on Labor Day. I wanted to find toilet bowl cleaner that would work on rusty water and I was the only customer wearing a mask. One of the stock people's mask was below the nose. I got out fast. We cannot be too careful. It was why I didn't go to the wedding I posted about and why I'll lay low for days to come.

I love your parlor. It's beautiful. And yes, everything old IS new again when it comes to decorating this year. (And to be honest, most -- I shop my basement every year!). Yesterday we labored on Labor Day, cleaning the cottage. Rick is a much better cleaner than I. But it was good. You are wise to be careful. Me, too.

    1. Thanks so much, Jeanie. We just got our power on late yesterday so I am now playing catch up. I don't pretend to understand some of the ways people think. I am beginning to lose faith in the human race. It has been so smoky here from all the fires that the sun hasn't shown itself for a couple of days. It has been keeping the heat away so that is good, even though what a horrible way to cool off! I have been attempting more though, so that is another good thing. Stay well, and enjoy the end of summer at the lake..xxoJudy

  7. Judy, your cottage looks so lovely dressed for fall. The world is crazy right now. The covid virus is scary. people really need to wear their masks. We are entitled to our opinions regarding politics. I personally hate watching the depressing news. Some people have taken to extreme. Protesting peacefully should be happening, not violent bashing and killing people and destroying businesses. I just don't understand these people who are so nasty. Stay safe.

    1. Thanks so much, Linda. I've been doing it up little by little, hopefully I'll get there before fall is over! It is such a shame when the right of the people to hold a peaceful protest, and there certainly is a lot to protest about, is overshadowed by the influence of some that just want to have their 15 minutes of fame and then that is only what most people see. Hasn't all this smoke been awful? Thankfully it hasn't been any worse than that..Stay well..xxoJudy

  8. Judy, you know how I feel about your gorgeous home and old or new views, I'll take any excuse to get another peek around. SO pretty!! And living here on the east coast and with family members who live in Maine, I've heard all about that case. It's actually unbelievable. We are following protocol in our home, even my 20 and 22 year olds, who don't want to infect us, themselves or others, but so many are not. How this ever became a political matter when it should be all about the science is beyond me. I read something the other day that said that covid is like glitter...open a tube of it in your living room and some how/ some way you will find it in every other room of your house, attic, garage and car in short order with no idea how it traveled. Yup. Stay safe. xxoo

    1. Thanks so much, Kim. We just got our power back on late yesterday but I was able to do more with it off than I have been doing every day. The smoke is so crazy here with all the fires still burning, although a long way from us, that it looks like the dead of winter. I thought that story was so fitting to demonstrate the horrible way that a lot of people view this pandemic. Just a sad situation all the way around. It makes me mad that their actions affect all of us trying to do the right thing and before you know it there will be glitter all over us. Stay well, my friend..xxoJudy

  10. Your home looks so cozy and inviting, bless you for cleaning, just not my thing, I keep thinking I need to hire someone, but the shame of it all keeps me just mulling it over! I did try and vacuum today, but its broken, as scarlet says, tomorrow's another day 😉

You are brave to invite comments on such volatile topics as straight science, hopefully you are attracting like minded intelligent and kind people to your blog, I wouldn't have the stomach to hear vitriol from others. Happy the heat has moved on, we never lost power, small things are comforting. Today is actually cool, with the wretched skies we can pretend its a rainy to be fall day, until we see the news and face the sadness of loss of life and property. my heart goes out to all in harms way and the very brave men and women fighting for our safety.

  11. Thanks so much. I do like to clean, normally, but for some reason these days, I have lost most all ambition. Yes, I mostly get favorable comments when I post something like this, the majority of people are smart and respectful, but there are a few that aren't, thankfully those don't seem to follow me usually. I guess to them they think they are right, but to me it is stupidity. Believe me, I have never spoken out like this in my life, but what I am seeing these last few months and years, I am just fed up with it all and it just makes me feel better to speak out when things are so unjust. It is really bad with the fires now. Our skies are so dark it doesn't feel like summer at all. I'm glad the heat is gone but the sadness of it all is overpowering..Stay well..xxoJudy

    1. I love your honesty, "its stupidity"! I am an avid reader and review countless books, normally I am very benign with my comments, but after reading a political book I just spewed out all my contempt... And then I cowerered.... I was ready to delete everything I said and comments, but to my shock I had 100% approval, down to private emails! I did it on another book and still 100% approval, my personal take is the educated read, you can deduce the rest....

    2. It is a scary thing to do if you are not that type of person who puts themselves out there for any reason, but, dang it, the ones that don't like what I say have no problem telling their side, so why shouldn't we. Sometimes when you know in your bones that things are not right, it does good to speak out about it. Too many things just go along at a bad speed and before you know it all the good is overwhelmed. It doesn't take much either, so sometimes our little voices need to be heard and I, for one, are proud of us!..Stay well my friend..xxoJudy

  12. Judy,
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit!! Your sweet little cottage looks absolutely lovely all ready for Fall even though I am sure there is a bit more tweaking to come if you are anything like me!! I love the area in your kitchen decorated for Fall and your Parlor is always such a delight to see!! I am with you on wearing masks but at this point, Stupid people will continue to be stupid people no matter how much information that are given because they are adamant in their beliefs as we are in ours so I will remain vigilant for myself and my family but I am tired of people doing what they please .....I pretty much stay at home and I am as happy as can be doing so and I am always busy.....
    Take care..
    Hugs,
    Deb

  13. Hi Deb and thanks so much. I always enjoy visiting with you. Sometimes I feel it is so repetitive to show the same old things, but what else is there? Try to change it up just a bit. I have seen t-shirts that say I'm with Stupid and has an arrow pointing towards the person on the right (OR left) whichever side they are standing on! Thanks heavens, I don't wear one of those!! I don't say I have not had some stupid moments but not that one! I guess if we can't find humor someplace now, we really are sunk!..Stay well..xxoJudy
