Although smoke and Covid
remain a constant,
there are some small changes
to our little world
here at the Cottage.
The weather has become
less of a problem.
The heat has turned down a notch
and that means the fans
can be put away for the time being.
However, there are no doubts
that they will come back out again
before summer is over.
The Shining of Sunflowers continue
to make their way into the decor.
This week the parlor is on display,
but only to a very small degree.
I am trying to use only what I have on hand so there isn't a plethora
of items to choose from.
I did find out, however,
that the heat was the main reason
for my lack of energy,
and not laziness,
as I had feared!
Cooler temps
made me want to do a
deep cleaning of the parlor
but the bending and moving
jump started my back issues again
so don't know
how much further I will get.
The smoke is really strong today
but nothing compared
to the fires and storms
going on elsewhere.
An exciting update on Jacenda's job search:
She got an interview with a hospital
in Eureka, CA (Humboldt County).
She actually accepted
but was not committed until a certain date.
Then she got another interview
and was hired
at San Francisco VA Hospital.
It is a new grad nurse position,
nursing and training
in all hospital units for a year,
then choosing her preferred unit.
She has a certain
amount of time to accept.
Tomorrow,
she has another interview with UCSF,
which is her dream job,
so if she is hired
then everything will change again.
We are so proud of her
and wish her all the luck
in finding her perfect job
and I will let you know
how it plays out.
Our TV critic for this week is
Brother,
one of Tami's and Tim's furry kids.
He watched Netflix's "Penguin Town",
a well done documentary series
about a yearly migration of penguins
to a town in South Africa.
He couldn't wait to call
Grandpa and Grandma
and tell us:
"All paws up for this one".
Happy Sunflower Days to all of you.

Your parlor is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, I appreciate your kind words and your visit.. We love it too..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy
DeleteCongratulatons to Jacenta! And love your TV critic! The house looks beautiful but then it always does. I'm glad the heat is easing a bit. Ours seems to be ramping up. I'm all for a warm September so even though it's hot, it's working for me!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jeanie. I always remember September as being comfortably warm years ago. We shall see how it goes this year. Hopefully, that means more days at the lake!..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy
DeleteCongrats to Jacenta. Nursing is such a great profession. Super great for all times in life to pick where it works best for her. I started out in the hospital and then went into hospice and then back to working for doctors when my girls were little and I did not want to work full time or holidays and weekends. She will love all her choices of nursing jobs throughout her working years. Have a great evening. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kris. I will pass the best wishes along. I think most of what she is being hired for is in pediatrics. I think she wants to get into the neonatal field, but whatever she is very smart and dedicated and we are so proud of her and Jake. They are making a beautiful life together..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy
DeleteCongrats to Jacenta and hopefully she gets her dream job! I simply love love that combination of hydrangeas and sunflowers. Will need to steal this idea from you. Sunflowers are my happy flower. Your tv critic is so sweet too! Glad he approved of the penguins. Janice
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Janice. I haven't heard anymore yet but I hope it is her dream job. Those are mostly my limelight hydrangeas from a couple of years ago. They just dried so nicely I hate to throw them out. It would have been prettier with real sunflowers but faux will do and steal the idea whenever you want. Tami said he sat in front of the TV for a very long time watching the penguins..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteHi Judy - I always enjoy seeing your charming parlor. So glad the heat is giving you a bit of a respite. We are finally moved into our Kentucky home and it is super hot & sticky right now! How editing for Jacinda to have so many choices! I wish her all the best. Jane
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jane. I can't wait to see more of your new home. How excited you must be. Jacenda applied for numerous positions at different hospitals. I did wonder how it would work with so many interviews but they do extend the time even though you might accept a position. I guess they feel like that is the fair way to do things. She is very dedicated to what she wants so I hope it is a successful quest..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteYour parlor is so pretty. Your entire house is beautiful, I especially love your kitchen. Has your house ever been featured in a magazine? Thank God for people like Jacenda who are willing to make nursing a career. They are so needed, and so appreciated. Please thank her. Your grand kitty. LOL So cute.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your very kind words. I appreciate your visits always. Yes, we were in Country Sampler magazine back in 2018. They didn't publish any of the rooms with wall paper though, I think they might have thought they were too old fashioned. But we were thrilled with what they did do. We are so proud of Jacenda. She is very dedicated to what she wants to do. I think she really wants to work in pediatrics or new born issues. We have a few grand-furrys but Brother is a special one and we even have a great-grand fish!..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteLovely photos, Judy. Yes, I do think the air quality and the heat has been a horrid depletion of sucking energy out of the Universe as well as us. I don't think I have ever been so 'lazy'. I do know my kitchen needs a deep clean---I just did it in February, LOL. And will be a good excuse to put out some Fall--or at least some sunflowers. Hugs, Sandi (PS just saw the news, we have heat advisories for the next 4 days)..ugh!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sandi. We have lots of smoke today, as had another close call yesterday. It just won't stop. We need lots of sunflowers these days..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteJust heard about the fire, praying you are not in harms way!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jain. Yes, this was the closest one yet. We even got to the point of actually putting things out on the dining room table that we might have to take with us. At the last minute they closed off the evacuations just 2 streets over from us. The firefighters worked over time last night and have really kept it under control..What's next?..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteThank heavens, I was instantly worried about you, my husband got an alert on his phone, when I saw where it was I was afraid you might have been evacuating. If they don't catch instantly they can run for 100s of miles for months, its just such a frightening new reality! Happy you didn't have to flee, winter can t come to soon for me!
DeleteThanks again, Jain. Yes it was pretty close, but they worked dilligently over night so we are safe once again. It was actually the first time that I started gathering up what we might need. I think I will just leave it for awhile, just in case. I don't know if I am ready to have Winter again so soon, but I would love a nice long fall accompanied by lots of rain..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteJudy,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you were feeling more energetic but sorry to hear that you hurt your back....
I hope they can get a handle on those fires and you do not have to put up with all that smoke...
I always love seeing your parlor..Good luck to Jacenda on finding the job that she really wants!! Nursing is such a hard profession and now it is even worse so I will be praying for her safety....
Thanks so much for stopping by!!
Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Thanks so much, Deb. My back is apparently an on-going thing. It really never gets much better, but when I overdo anything than it flares up more. Rest is all it takes and lord knows I get a lot of that!! Thanks for the good thoughts for Jacenda. She is a very smart and determined young woman and knows what she wants and has worked very hard to get there. She wants to be in pediatrics and neo natal and all of the interviews she has had are for that. We are very proud of her..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteSomehow, I have found myself back in blog land. Hoping to catch up with some fun friends and begin a new season of life with y'all! Love this and congratulations to your girl!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Cindy, and it is so good to hear from you. It has been a long time. Jacenda is our grand-daughter-in-law. If there is such a word. She and our grandson, Jake, just got engaged and Jake works for Kaiser so they are starting off on the right foot..Hope to hear from you again..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteI too think the heat does sap our energy... good excuse for me anyway for being "lazy" as far as yardwork goes. I have been pretty active with my crafting, as I enjoy being in the cool house on those super hot days! I do sneak out to water usually, but not much else. Your sunflowers are so pretty here and there and as always, just love looking at your cottage inside, and your lovely decorating! I think the TV critic is just great! Glad it's cooled down some.. we have lots of smoke here still but not as bad today thankfully. Have a good week! Marilyn
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Marilyn. We almost had to evacuate yesterday but dodged the bullet again. Lots of smoke today as this one was pretty close. I guess I just keep my little "take-out" kitty packed up for now, just in case. The smoke really does cool things down though so I like that, of course when you can't breath, I don't know if it makes much difference! We just keep counting our blessings and keep going on..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
DeleteLove that shot of your beautiful room! Glad it's cooled off a bit for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jacqueline. I feel blessed and (lucky) to have one clean room in the house..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy
DeleteCongrats, pretty photos ❤
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kinga..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy
DeleteUgh, I'm sorry about your back. I feel it too, with this humidity. My energy is sapped. Your place always looks lovely though. It's also nice to hear so many good things going one and that kitty cracks me up!! A good laugh is always appreciated!! Stay safe! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Kim. I think the back thing is just something to be put up with. The kitty, Brother, is a crack up. Always has his nose into all the business going on. He is huge and one of a pair. His twin sister, Sister, is just like him. Quite a handfull..Happy Thursday..xxoJudy
