SHORT AND SWEET...

The weeks are going by so quickly.

It seems I just posted and here another one has come and gone.

In one way, summer is just flying by

and in another it is dragging its feet.

Time is so fleeting

that I feel it should never be wished away

but, the truth is, I am yearning for fall.

  I am looking forward to

 my favorite color pallet

and a cooler bite in the air.

Even though the color blue seems to be the one constant in my paint box,

I admit that I feel the most satisfaction

when I am surrounded by

 the colors of autumn,

the rusts and the rich jewel tones.

Since I didn't get my real life zinnias planted in the garden this year,

I ordered this pretty wreath from Joann's, along with some individual stems.

I thought it would make for a

 pretty summer decoration.

However, since it has been so hot,

the thought of all

that brilliance and brightness around me

 was too much to contemplate

so now it seems just right, with the addition of sunflowers,

for later summer arrangements...

...and that should give just enough time

for dried sunflowers to be ready

 for some fall fun.

Thanks to you all

for your kind and good wishes for

Jake's and Jacenda's engagement.

 We are all so excited

and are looking forward to the future.

Jacenda is in the process of interviewing for a few job opportunities

and when her decision has been made,

we will know where

their continuing journey will take them.

The sun is getting the better of the ferns,

 but the limelight hydrangeas

are almost in full bloom.

They give off the slightest, sweetest scent for our late night porch sittings.

As we have a lot of fans!"

  1. Yes Judy... and the HEAT goes on... and on.... and on....... and on.... here anyway and probably all over the Pacific Northwest! My son, who lives in Asotria, OR., says it's been so dry there too and way hotter than normal. I sure don't want those colors around me either.. oranges and yellows and reds are just too "hot" feeling! My house is mostly pinks and aqua blues and white, which is nice and very cool feeling which I love. And I agree... where did July go? where does each week go? I can't keep up at all. Here it is August and I'm just feeling like my flowers are FINALLY doing well and blooming and growing and before I know it, we'll be getting night time freezes! I sure love your porch too! Have a cooler week I hope, but not here.. hot hot hot!!! xoxo Marilyn

    1. Thanks so much, Marilyn. I don't think it is going to be much cooler here either. It is down from the 100's but 90's are too hot also. When I say we have fans, there are 6 going in different rooms along with one swamp cooler but they work pretty well together and we are cooler in the house than we have ever been. The problem is sleeping at night. We are expecting a delivery today of a window air conditioner for keeping the bedroom cool. That should help..Stay cool and enjoy the flowers..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy

  2. Hi, Judy! Your front porch is so inviting!! I've never had a house with a front porch but we've tried to make the most of our large back deck. There's no covering or shade so it's almost impossible to enjoy in the hot summer months in Alabama. I've had to water my plants a lot even with all the rain we've been getting. Anyway, thanks for sharing. I always enjoy reading your posts!

    1. Thanks so much, Stacy. We do enjoy our front porch especially at night time during this very hot spell of weather. We live in town so there are neighbors walking by a lot and much talking over the fence. Very Norman Rockwell, haha. We do have a screened in back porch also that we can switch to when needed. It gets the hot afternoon sun though so stays pretty warmish even after dark. We water alot too these days but the sun is a little too strong for some plants. I appreciate your visits..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy

  3. Yes the weeks are flying by. Already August. It has been hot, even our plants are suffering. Happy to hear your Limelight are almost in bloom. Jacenda and Jake look so young. I wish them great happiness.

    1. Thanks so much, Linda. It is hard to believe that it won't be long before we are all into Christmas again! The limelights are pretty but they are not as big and fluffy as past years. Jake is 27 and Jacenda is 24 (I think). They seem very mature in the way they are handling themselves and their goals, but they are young in years. However, Jerry and I were married and had two kids by that age.. Wow, that seems just like yesterday..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy

  4. Glad your limelights are beginning to bloom. It has been so hot here too but for the last few days it has been a bit nicer and less humidity. Been enjoying that. Have a great rest of the week. xoxo Kris

    1. Thanks so much, Kris. I don't think I would do very well if we had high humidity along with the heat. I hope it stays nice for you..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  6. It has been such a hot summer, and we've gotten a ton of rain which makes it so humid, so that is not fun. But I don't want to complain because I know so many places haven't gotten rain and need it desperately. I'm just counting the days until Autumn and some relief from the heat. Congratulations to the kids on their engagement. Ah to be young and have so many possibilities ahead of you.

    1. Thanks so much for visiting. I don't think I would do well in high humidity. We certainly need some rain. It is so scary with all the fires. I am looking forward to autumn also. It is a beautiful season. We are so proud of the grands. They both have very good work ethics and have set goals for themselves and I am certain that they will reach them..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  7. Judy,
I too am starting to long for Fall...We had a nice few days of low humidity and days with temps. in the 70's and it was heaven...BUT next we are predicted to have above average heat and humidity so I will be stuck in the house with the air conditioning on once again..I hope I can get some crafting done...Thanks so much for stopping by and for your sweet comment! It is much appreciated!!

    1. Thanks so much, Debbie. I can't wait for a change. Any season would do well right now except summer! Wow, it has been a challenge. I do love Fall though no matter what the weather. We sound like we will be cooling off somewhat next week but still warm. I don't feel that I will be stuck in the house but it sounds like a good place to be for now..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  8. Your summer looks lovely and oh, those hydrangeas. I love them! We've had a pretty temperate summer here, but dry. I came home from the lake and my yard looks like a jungle, it's all so overgrown. I know what I'm doing this week!

    1. Thanks so much, Jeanie. The hydrangeas are pretty but not as full and fluffy as in years past. It is nice that you can get away and then are able to get back to the lake for awhile longer. Your summers always look wonderful there..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  9. You are popular indeed! Of this dreadful heat, I hope its a cold fall and early! I have to say I thought of you and the river fire, if it kept marching forward grass valley was in its path, thank god for their quick joint efforts, although for all those people who lost their homes it was not quick enough... I watched it from afar and it blew up so fast I packed our valuables and was just waiting for notification... Did I mention I'm eager for cold, rain, snow?

I just planted limelight this summer, is yours in the sun of shade? A friend told me they need sun to bloom, but my hydrangeas are burnt to a crisp in part shade this summer...

  10. Great post as always! Congratulations on Jake and Jacenda's engagement. So much happiness and fun planning a wedding.
My limelight's have just one bloom, last year the bush was covered. Not sure what their problem is. I love the look of feathery ferns. I have mine planted under the boxwoods but never enjoy them because my husband whacks them back. So looking forward to fall and it's colors. Hugs, Betsy

  11. Thanks so much, Betsy. I doubt I will have much to do in planning this wedding. They say they probably won't get married for at least 3 more years. By then, I just hope I can walk to my seat in the church! It depends where they move to after she gets a job. My limelights look pretty good this year but I don't think they are as fluffy as before. I have given up responding to when my hubby cuts anything down. I guess it will all grow back..Happy Tuesday..xxoJudy
