PROMISES MADE...

I might have mentioned

this problem last year,

or was it two years ago?

Time has a way of slipping by,

especially when it concerns something

that is an uncomfortable task.

This is the library at the Cottage.

It is a small room, as rooms go,

but it can hold a lot of stuff!

The room itself has good bones.

One wall is taken up by

an antique barber's cupboard,

filled with books and family photos.

 The room has good storage,

 a computer closet,

a desk and a work table.

With the addition of

a comfortable reading chair,

it has all the elements of

 a functioning library.

However, at present,

it functions more like

the typical kitchen junk drawer.

Since it is a room that only has to be entered when one wants to,
the door can be closed off
from the rest of the house
just as if it didn't exist.
The only bad thing is that
since the beginning,
 the room has been designated
as "The Captain Quarters"
and the man in question
 is not happy with
the present circumstances!

In transitioning the rest of the Cottage,

 stuff would get "dropped off"

in the library,

to be put away at a later date,

 but later has never come.

Oh, yes,

 words have been exchanged

 and promises have been made,

but so far nothing has been done.

Now that Christmas has been cleared

from all the other rooms,

and winter will be here for awhile,

the time has come for change.

Jake and Jacenda gave me this

 pretty watercolor kit for Christmas

and I am anxious to start it.

I think I have pushed my luck long enough

and I wouldn't start it on

 the dining room table,

if I know what is good for me,

so the time has come

for promises to be kept.

Wish me luck and long term success!

May I get, and keep, on track!

 I will keep you updated

 on any, and all, progress.

In other news,

I thought I would make mention of my

FYI:  If you looked back at my No. 1 post from last year, you would notice that the Covid-19 count was 13 new cases.  In today's paper (January 25, 2022) the count is 707 new cases. Just saying'.

  1. Judy your library room is so gorgeous with those built ins. I cannot wait to see what you do with that room. It is funny how you can find that one place in the house that becomes the storage facility!!! Loved that garden post. Ahhhhhh to see flowers again. All I am seeing is sparkling white stuff today. At least the sunshine is out. Brrrr. Have a great week. xoxo Kris

    1. Thanks so much, Kris. At one time it looked nice, but is now covered up with too much stuff! I am making headway though, but I actually had to clean up my storage spot in order to get all the mess out of the library and into there! It is coming along. We haven't had any snow since the day after Christmas, but the front lawn is still white. It has been very cold..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy

  2. This is your 'real' Sis. I've only emailed and not used this 'comment' feature for a long time. Just seeing if it works for me now. I'm really interested in seeing the transformation 'back' to that beautiful barber's cupboard like when you first set it up. Love the photo of the two wicker chairs and lamp where the Captain could actually relax. Love, Sid

    1. Thanks so much My Lady! I can't pull any wool over your eyes as you have actually seen it! Frankly, I wish every room in the house looked like it did when it was first done. Would have saved a lot of heart ache and trouble..Hope it is going good for you my dear Sissy..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy

  4. Hi Judy! I know you will have your beautiful library back in shape in no time! I think everyone has that one two, three, four 😁) hot spot in their home. I was down in my basement today and took a look at boxes yet to be unpacked from our August move as well as an array of Christmas decor that is kind of boxed/kind of not and promised myself next week is THE WEEK to get the basement under control. I had a very mild case of Covid that is still lingering, so I'm giving myself a few more days grace. Good luck to you - you can do it! Jane

  5. Oh Judy I don't envy you! My garage is what needs attention the most! I manage to keep the 3 bedrooms in my house free of "stored" stuff, except my craftroom has a back area that I tend to set things that I don't know where to put! I would put them in the garage, but.... nope.... no room there. My goal for 2022 is to get my garage in shape and have some nice white cabinets along the side, with doors that shut.. to keep things I really DO use! And get rid of stuff that has never seen the light of day for over 10 years! Dump here I come. My craft room closet also needs a clean-out as it is a gathering place for ???? I bet your library (and your Captain) will be very happy with the "new" library! hugs.. Marilyn

    1. Thanks so much, Marilyn. It is a slow process but I am getting some stuff done. It is like a cycle with me. I get a big mess and then clean it up and swear it will never happen again, but it always does! Yes, the Captain will be very happy when it is done. I could just close the door and be happy!..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy

  6. That is such a pretty room. I love the picture with the chairs. So cozy and inviting. Don't feel too bad, we all that one room that gets cluttered. Ours is our guest rom. Our house is not huge so whenever something comes into the house that doesn't have a home yet it gets thrown in there. Then I'll find a place for everything and again it gets cluttered with more things coming into our home. It's just a vicious cycle. I'm just going to give up and start calling it our guest room/storage area and be done with it. LOL

    1. Thanks so much. Sounds to me like you have the right idea. If I didn't have that little nagging voice over my shoulder, that is what I would do too..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy

  7. Lucky you!! What a fabulous room. I have house envy again, my friend...and I'm quite familiar with those promises. There was a Christmas tree, completely undressed, waiting patiently next to its box for two weeks before my own promise was kept (with some gentle nudging, of course!). Can't wait to see what you paint! xo

    1. Thanks so much, Kim. It is a fabulous room and I certainly haven't done it any favors over time but it is getting done slowly but surely. I am so anxious to start that painting project. I haven't even opened the package yet so don't actually know what I will find..Happy Weekend..xxoJudy

  8. Judy,
I do not recall seeing this room before but I can not wait to see what you will be doing to it!!!The Sitting room upstairs is where I usually drop off everything ad even sometimes our bedroom as that is the room where the attic stairs are located....I have finished changing over the entire downstairs to Winter/Valentine's and am taking a break this week and do some crafting and relaxing before I start to put away Christmas upstairs....Looking forward to your next post!! Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!!
    Hugs,

    1. Thanks so much, Deb. I don't feel too badly when I am hearing that most have a junk room or two! The library will be a little different as there will be a work table in there now for painting. My craft room is presently storing all the Christmas cubbies now so that we don't have to go outside to put them away, but the Captain is OK with this arrangement, as long as I can keep it clean!..Happy Sunday..xxoJudy

  9. Hi Judy! Oh, I love this post and can certainly relate! Since we have moved back to Texas and have a much smaller house with no storage, I totally understand! That is a very lovely room too. Good luck with your 'organizing' and good luck with the water color kit! Those wreaths on the front of the notebook are so pretty!
Hope all is going well with you,
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia :)

  10. Good luck keeping your promise, Judy. I finally made myself go upstairs and get the office set up. I still have a lot to do up there as stuff has just been dumped up there willy-nilly, too. But at least the office portion is done. Good luck, my friend. Keep us posted. xo Diana

  12. Sounds like you have a great plan there to declutter and get everything put into place.
Sending good luck wishes with the project.
We too have to get ourselves in gear to declutter and get things put into place around here.
Scary how clutter sneaks up on us...lol!

    Smiles :)
