SOMETIMES IT ISN'T FAIR...

Yesterday

the postman delivered the

March-April Victoria magazine to my door.

It is just blooming with all kinds of

springtime enticements.

You know, it just isn't fair.

Our garden is very much still

in the "dead" stage of winter.

The stage where I always imagine

that it will never shine again

and even though it still does eventually,

it is hard to wrap my mind around it right now.

See,

 I kid you not!

One minute the weak sunshine

is trying to break through the lace curtains

 and my heart is a-flutter

 and in the next second

it goes dark again.

It just simply is not fair.

I really don't feel right about

taking down winter just yet.

It seems that I just put it up,

but when you are being torn

by what you see around you,

it feels like I am back between

 what looks like Christmas

and it isn't even Thanksgiving yet.

I really don't want to be left

not having anything to put out

when the real spring actually gets here.

So just like having

one piece of candy to appease you

instead of the whole bag,

I am rummaging through the cupboards and bins

to find just a little bit of color and romance

that will bring out what the heart wants

until it can get what it needs.

I can not forget that this is February,

the month of the valentine.

So, while trying to bring a little something

bright and beautiful to the Cottage,

I will add in a few touches of something

that might pull on your heartstrings.

I hope you liked that I brought a little

 brightness to the picture

and I think I have satisfied myself

without giving too much of spring away.

I know that there will still be much to enjoy

and old Punxsutawney Phil

says it will be here sooner than later.

Happy Valentines to you.

...xxoJudy...

  1. Judy, I'm feeling brighter already! The weather here has turned spring like, but winter left the garden a mess. I've recently had hip replacement surgery, so no gardening for me just yet. Fortunately I have some help. I've not had the opportunity to pull out my snowmen as normal, and now I'm ready to bring out some Valentine things. Will see what I'm up to doing this week. I have my throw pillows out, but I really want to set a table and add touches to the buffet. You hsave inspired me, sweet friend. I love seeing your different hearts. Happy Valentine's!

    1. Thanks so much, Sarah. I hope you are getting better. I have two members of my family just going through hip surgery and it doesn't sound fun. A little color does help when things are looking gray for whatever reason..Happy Valentines..xxoJudy

  2. I believe our Southern readers just don't understand how sunshine in the North this time of year means COLD, and the rest of the time the world is the color of gunmetal gray and brown WWII tanks...Although temps fluctuate, we just don't get Spring for months yet! Perhaps this will be the year to plant beets and lettuce in the garden in march, but I doubt it. Hugs, Sandi from gunmetal gray land, lol.

    1. Thanks so much, Sandi. I tried to give a small moment to take me out of that gun metal gray, but one can only do so much. Hopefully, it will be enough to hold me awhile. xxoJudy

  5. We are having a very mild winter here in Illinois. Except for that 24 hours of below freezing when our pipe to the building burst it has been more like Spring weather than Winter. I walked the golf course yesterday and I saw 7 robins. That is a sign in the midwest we are going to have an early Spring. This plus of course the ground hog seeing his shadow which he did. So the ground hog and robin sighting are good signs of an early spring for us. I get down with the no sunshine days too. Hard to get motivated. Have a good week. Hugs. Kris

    1. Thanks so much, Kris. I have seen a few robins on the lawn, oh wait one was my little dog!! I don't like this weather. It makes me whine and complain too much..xxoJudy

  6. It all looks beautiful, Judy! It's the perfect early nod to spring. Valentines, photos of your sweet bride and groom and those colorful flowers brighten the gray skies, I'm sure. We normally have tons of snow, but there's been just a bit and I'm fine with that. Today I walked on the pier and it was cold, but comfortable. I can't wait for warmer days, but for now I guess I'll have to get my fix from magazines, too!!

  7. A lovely winter nod to spring, Judy! So many sweet hearts, and real-life sweethearts to celebrate Valentine's Day. Love the flowers and pretty lace curtains. A wonderful place to stay cozy while you wait for those first days of spring. I'm definitely looking forward to warmer days. I found a crocus blooming yesterday, so not too long to wait, I hope. I even got to work in the yard the other day, but it's back to cold and rain today. Hope you get some sunshine through those pretty curtains again. Hugs xo K

    1. Thanks so much, Karen. We had some really heavy rain but then a little sunshine. Today it is dark and gray so more of the same for awhile. Soldier on and spring will come..xxoJudy

  8. I hope you aren't in the heart of the rains and in any danger. Cali is certainly getting punished this week. But maybe good for the fires this summer? I hope so. I feel like we are in spring now here -- up to 50 this week. That's a pretty scary thing for Michigan and I feel a little guilty when I say I love it. Love all your sweet Valentine things!

  9. Thanks so much, Jeanie. We had some wild winds and heavy rain for one night but then we are back to gray and dark. Guess it will be this way for awhile longer. I don't blame you at all for loving the way it is and am looking forward to when that may happen here..xxoJudy

  10. Judy,
We had a nice week with above average temps...in the mid 40's with Sunshine but there is the possibility of an ice storm the beginning of next week with more seasonal temps....Winter will not be done with us here in NEPA until the end of March, at least...The cottage looks lovely as always...I adore those sweet mice holding the heart!! I hope you are having a good week!!

  11. Judy, spring will be here before we know it. Love the nod to Valentine's Day. We are getting lots of rain, which we always need. It's dark and gray mostly and time to cozy up with a cup of tea or coffee and a good book. xoxo

  13. Hi Judy...I can't believe we're getting so close to March already! I love your touches of Valentine's here and there. Valentine's Day may just bypass me totally this year! I just moved, and am buried deep with boxes that need to be unpacked! I am looking forward to some 60 degree days. We had a few a couple of weeks ago, after some big storms of snow and ice. My new area is more just rain, which am happy to see rather than snow! Xoxo Marilyn
